Does anyone have any tips for painting foliage in Photoshop? I'm talking mainly about foliage that is neither in the foreground nor terribly distant--where the leaf definition is fading, but there's still some.

I know there are no shortcuts or cheap ways to do this. None that look good, at least. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips.

Another potentially helpful thread bites the dust because 53 people decide not to reply...:x

Not sure if this is the style you're looking for. I just messed around customizing brushes until I arrive at foliage-like brush tips that I like. You may want to make a brush for the general branch mass and another one to give leaf shape suggestion in the shadows and fringes.

Well, I want to create pretty photorealistic foliage. I suppose it's just going to take more practice, which is true of all things in art. I've created several foliage brushes, but making the jump from sketchy masses of desaturated greens is proving quite difficult. Back to work...
