Standing
Double Breakfast

Jennifer woke up one morning to a strange reversal of roles - she was the victim of a theft. A Scrat (a wildly unsuccessful splice between crow and rat) had found her dwindling stash of synthi-dogs. Unperterbed, Jennifer jumped up in pursuit, confidant that she could enjoy a double breakfast if she retrieved her stolen goods and caught the thief.

Needless to say, the response to this was slightly overwhelming. I am truly humbled. Fantastic work everyone, simply unbelievably fantastic.

Regardless of your skill level, you ALL have something to be proud of.

Good luck to you all.

Some really amazing entries on this one. The ones that caught my eye the most were Poshspice, Standing, al-x, Interceptor, m@., lukavi, whoami, and magicgoo. I ended up choosing Standing's design as it had not only the concept of the heroine, but the whole gang sketched out below her, so you could get a good idea of the type of clothing that were worn in that time period. Nice work Standing, it's a great concept piece!

Interceptor - That's a really beautiful illustration, but it just didn't feel finished, where as others did. I like the character concept so far, though.

Despìte tjhe incredible quality of some pieces, specially Poshspice, Oregano, Sinix...and a lot more (sorry, so many goo entrys, so little time to name all the ones i liked :( )

I Voted for Standing, becuase the quality is as good as the bests in show, plus it made me smile, As said before, brilliant :)

Also it would be a really good pic for Ch.O.W´s mascot, because is enthusiastic, humorous and yet well rendered.....kinda like a style middle point.

So the winner becomes the Ch.O.W mascot, is that right?

Damn. There's one that would make a killer mascot, but didn't incorporate enough of the description.
I don't know what to do with that...

Holy crap! Talk about a tough vote. After scanning through them repeatedly I had to give props to Standing. All around awesome job and it made me laugh.

Artists who made me sweat over my choice- lukavi, Teigrob, scumgrinder, xgabo, Poshspice, Sinix and al-x. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. :tihi: ;)

KDJFHLKSJD.. oh crepe this is a hard one. off the gun id say Poshspice, bengonzalez, whoami and Sinix are my faves.. i cant choose! narrowing between that selection, id have to say its between whoami and Sinix most of all. the graphic part of me is screaming in support for Sinix.. buuut i think whoami wins my vote, mainly for sheer technical execution (no, not because it has boobies). definately has depth, solidity and movement, all stunning works but thats my final word.

Xgabo got my vote for nailing the Corsair/Parkour aspect of the requirement, she's in action. Action poses tend to stand out better - depending on the topic at hand - like this one. I wish I did mine in a similar pose. Another point was anatomy, color, and costume. Very nicely done. I think xgabo met the requirements for this week's ChOW, considering no background was necessary. It was that pose, then the artwork that got my attention.

There were others that I liked, and the diversity and variations of themes was impressive. Nice work everyone. :confident

Wow, this was a tuff one to vote on. So many great ones. I'm just a sucker for Poshspice's girls.
But I wish I could have also voted for so many others.
Andrewley-always original and so full of energy.
scumgrinder-love the details.
sinix-really nice graphic look.
interceptor-love the comic book style and the details on the outfit are really nice.
standing-feels like you're in the middle of the story as soon as you see it.
magicgoo-another great comic style and great energetic pose.
lukavi-I love your world.
bumskee-so understated it's beautiful.
And a lot of other really nice ones here. Congrats everyone.
And Oregano - how do you find the time to organize this thing and do a great painting too. Nice work!

This was the toughest voting I've done, but I picked Magicgoo for the dynamic flow and strong colors. So many other fantastic choices, though...

No, I meant the original character description.
Since the Parkour Master bit was emphasized, it seems to me like the winner should show some kind of action.

My vote goes to Standing, for a truly humorous approach! I love her expression, the action, the clear staging...marvelous. Everyone else: awesome!! Dang, I wish I could paint like you guys.. :upset: What a competition everyone, and thanks Oregano, for a wonderful contest! :teeth: (pssst - you spelled my name wrong Oreg, but I'll forgive you - everyone misspells my name! :tihi: )

What to pick!? So many good ones to choose from... whoami, oregano, poshspice, magicgoo, m@, morbidhumor, xgabo, vigo, andrewley and sinix just to name a few, probably forgot loads more. Now Bumskee and Standing have very strong entries imo. Solid designs backed with solid rendering. Also I agree with Shamagim in that they both made very good mascots .When I first saw bum’s I thought, now THAT’s a mascot – half covered face, firm silhouette, iconic. But from people’s posts, realized standing’s humor also makes it work (This did not affect my voting at all). Now I’m rambling... So, I thought I’d go with my initial gut reaction and go with Bumkee’s sleek approach.

Phew, damn fine show. I feel like nuking some popcorns and sitting down to enjoy the beauties. Goodjob all.

edit: just wanted to say, for a weekly, the number of entries this round is insane.

I voted for AndrewLey. I mainly just enjoy the style and design he went with... I thought his piece best represented what I personally wanted to see in the character. The zoom camera phone is simply a great and original touch... the stylish designer clothes with a hint of traditional pirate flare and a kneepad all add alot of character. I prefer to think in a crappy society, kids will turn to crime to try to get a taste of wealth, glamour, and materialism.. which is why I felt his captured the concept the best.

Phew, anyway, everyone brought alot of strong stuff to the activity, so some other quick comments and praise:
Oregano, poshspice, jakkas, bumskee, orcatraz, lukavi, and main loop all were on my short list. (haha, I keep adding names.. there's just a ton of quality work, I know I'm leaving some nice ones out)
Whoami - I really like how the character meshes with the environment.. the clothes rendering is great.
m@ - yay, I'm a definite fan of your speedpaints, start doing EOW and IDW too!
Firefly - good sketch, just wanna give a quick crit, you placed the ear a bit high and back. Feel how your cheekbone comes back around your skull, the top of the ear should be about on that.

Alright, enough typing... great job people, lookin' forward to the next one.

Between lukavi, al-x, and VirusArtist, this is a very hard decision!!! So, I'm voting for VirusArtist, just because there's something about it that really grabbed me. It's really simple, really action-packed, and bald chicks rule :)

This event came out a lot better than I expected. I´ve thought the board would get slightly overfed with "of the week"-contests but I forgot that we´ve got so many good artists around that we can easily do more than one ;).

I voted for Standing - in my opinion he nailed the character in the description the best without going to the usual cheesecake-pirate cliché.

There´ve been quite a lot others that I liked, just to mention some:
Oregano - good feeling and you´ve improved in the last time so much it puts my humble efforts in shame
Poshspice - because I simply like your girls
magicgoo - my second favourite after Standing (you may see where my ideas went, when I´d participated, too)
Teigrob - because I like your conceptual/animation approach
al-x - the bw version is my fav but for you the same as for Oregano - you improved so much in the last time

Anyway there can be only one ... Maybe I will find time to participate in a character-contest, too (But I SHOULD do more enviros and creatures :P)

Good work everyone and good luck to you Oregano to get this event going.

for me, its a total draw between standing, main loop and m@...hard to choose a fav among those 3.

standing: the punk approach appeals most to me. in the near future a hint of anarchy CANT be wrong. love evrything about ur pic. the story, the pose, the facial expression (still has me smiling) and most of all the little critter hehehehe. great work and a worthy mascot entry.

main loop: TOTALLY AWESOME. love the pose, the colour, the look of determination on her face and it links with my initial idea of her being of african descent. The caribbean approach just goes hand in hand with the word "corsair" and "pirate" with me :)

m@: same approach, awesome mood, great rendering. although I guess that your pic was intended to be in colour, the black and white really created a dysotopian feel for me. her pose really screams "LEADER OF MEN". great job!

I decided to vote for standing's piece in the end, because I think its the best choice for a mascot for this awesome weekly activity.

Special kudos for teigrob, magicgoo and interceptor. I'm always a sucker for good lineart. would love to see your creations animated (especially teigrob's).

to the rest of you: WHOAH!! just WHOAH!! hope this level of quality carries over to the next ChoW activities.

cheers,

First off - wow! amazing work everyone!

It was really really hard to give a vote to one piece only.....finally I gave mine to m@.. I think he really managed to nail down the character we know from the description in just one piece. Great scence, great mood, very dynamic.

Jesus - wish I hadn't gone first - I had no idea everyone would come out guns blazing - fantastic work guys!

I was sure I was going to vote for Posh's - its the most professional looking piece here.

I think Sinix's piece really pops out from the bunch but it needed a stronger design statement.

I voted for Lukavi's becuase the design was was bold and unique even though the rendering was not as polished as others. It conjours up an idea of a world and culture where such a character would exist.

HM to m@ - a great scene, really well painted, but again the character design was a little too generic.

m@.

Thanks all. Whoa, it was a great round, lots of very good entries! you all did a great job.

Andrewley : love the character, a very "ordinary" feel to her face (that's a good point for me), and strong design. Great simplified rendering too. I voted for you.

Orcatraz : great dynamic pose and composition. Cool character!

Poshspice : great character as usual :) she looks beautiful and tired.

Sinix : nice style!

Interceptor : clean lines and great details, would have loved to see it colored.

Standing : great pic, very fun character. Would be a nice mascot !

lukavi : amazing costume, great character!

bumskee : beautiful design, looks very elegant but somehow cold and deadly.

Main Loop : great dynamic piece, very cool pose.

aright... my vote goes out to al-x! posh and oregano, yours were REALLY good, but I just didn't get the "parkour" vibe from ya. Ordinarily I wouldn't make a deal out of that, but the fact that "Jumper" is in her name says that she'd be doing it enough to have it in her picture.

Very hard to choose this time, lots of entries... My vote went to scumgrinder, who avoided the typical cyberpunk approach and created a lighter and more agile character, even though she is in a static pose. I think the main selling point of this character is the parkour lifestyle, but most entries put her in very uncomfortable clothes and booths that would never suit walking up the walls or doing crazy jumps. There were some cool entries with very nice style and finishing, but in my opinion great artistry has to serve the idea that was proposed, first and foremost.

Andreylew, sinix, poshspice, standing and m.@: great entries! this was a fun thread!

Cheers

Standing

Sinix
scumgrinder

Also to the guys in SSG Gilded, Danomight and Interceptor, in fairness I wont vote for yours but I do like both of them.

I ended up voting for Posh, but I need to clarify that it was a random vote.

I collected my ten favorites, listed them out in order of entry on a piece of paper, and literally rolled a 10 sided dice.

There is, was, and can be no way that I can objectively decide on my own which piece to vote for, so that was my best hope.

I'm still in shock over this. Still want to gush like a little fanboy over all of your work.

Just... wow, people. Just wow. I'm proud of you all. Awesome work.

Wow. Congratulations everyone. Got down to two entries.. bumskee or standing...

Bumskee, really, really love the style, great pose and probably would be a great mascot too! Comparing it to the description It looks quite piratey, but doesnt really convey the tired, hungry look as much as standings does. Great costume too..

Standing, looks awesome, pretty much like what I would expect the character to from the brief, and looks crazy chasing after her breakfast too! :) In a good pose and has a great costume design, looks like she's been struggling to survive.

hmmm. Think I am going for :S ...Standing

Also loved, Andrewley's, poshspice's and Interceptor's.

Tight race early on, and a strong voting turn out as well! I'm still debating for whom to vote. So far, Standing seems to be the leading vote-getter, but while it's a nice piece, it isn't quite speaking to me like it seems to be speaking to a lot of people...Not sure I can picture it as the mascot either. Likewise for Bumskee's, another vote-leader so far. I love the unique animated approach that Teigrob took, but I'm partial to rendered entries. I think it's going to come down to Posh, Oreg, and Lukavi...Posh because he is the hot girl master...Oreg because it's a nice design, captures a lovely moment, and we're all indepted to him for starting this up afterall...and Lukavi just because it's so damn unique and probably visually speaks to me the most. Argh, the agony of indecisiveness!

Sheesh! What a collection of talented peeps! The choice was tough, with favs of Oregano, Posh, Scumgrinder, Sinix, Bumskee and so many more! I ended up voting for Magicgoo - loved the technique, pose/gesture, and attitude. Well done!
Gotta laugh - my entry is soooo different. I'll hopefully be more on top of the human aspect in round 2. :)
Cheers!

Hey guys -
Thanks for everyone who said such nice things about my entry - I really appreciate it. I'll respond to everyone later when I have a bit more time - but for now I think that we should all say a massive THANK YOU to Oregano for organizing a fun thread - I know that I'll be participating in as many of these 'of the week' threads as possible as for chaps like me who need to build a portfolio, I think it's a great way to motivate yourself and give your work some structure.
PS Poshspice and Lukavi were my favourite entries, but great work all 'round.

Hmm, I guess its time to pay the dues for all the eye candy I have enjoyed in this thread. Its going to be tough to choose just one out of the may excellent entrees but here goes.

The toughest part of this brief seemed to be balancing character design with the dynamic pose and action that the brief would seem to require. Many (myself included)over emphasized the dynamic pose and failed to bring the sense of life to the drawing that a character study requires.

The 3 that I belive found the best balance between action and character and best satisfy the brief are
AndrewLey, Standing, and Teigrob.

Teigrob: Brilliant line work and anatomy, the most complete treatment of the character posted. The painted versions arnt quit of the same quality though, and it doesn't really sell the "near future" part of the brief.

Standing: She frightens me. I'm afraid that if I crit her she will kick my teeth in.

AndrewLey: My vote has to go here. Does everything the brief asks for and does it with style t o spare.

Finally went for Poshspice, because it just looks great and the dirty feeling is cool. I love the katana. The other ones I liked were more 'cute', but this one suits the description more.

Gosh there are so many awesome entires. I can't decide who to vote for.

I love AndrewLey's style and design. It really shows the futuristic part.
Scumgrinder's entry is really neat. I like the cleaness, but I don't think it fits the "dirty hungry" description of the character.
Love the shoe in Diego's character.
Shamagim's coloring is awesome. I'm not really into anthro, but the design rocks neverthless. And the background is great.
vigostar's look really badass, I like the shirt and expression. The pants look a bit plain in comparison.
I like the katana design in Evil_Sloth's.
Poshspice's entry really fit the description. Dirty tired and wild. The detail and design really rocks.
I really like sinix's style, and the simple outfit. Simple but just enough to show the urbaness and wildness.
Drawnblud has a nice touch on the surroundings, and the pose shows the mischievies side of the character.
The action and grease in machzero is really good. I like those mud pieces flying off her shoes.
Love Interceptor's line work and details. Cool design too, Especially on the headgears. Wish you have a colored version of it too. :)
The perspective in VirusArtist is really good. i like the make up on the face, very pirate like.
It's refreshing to see redehlert's entry. One of the few that's not exactly human character. Who knows what future human can look like. The wings are awesome.
al-x's babe has great tatoos. :D and that black and white version is really strong
Standing is probably the one of the best that shows the personality of the character. I just love that expression on her face.
The coloring and color tone in JonnyAwesome is really awesome, brings out the urban feeling.
Danomight's entry is fun, and the outfit design is really great.
Oregano's entry is been saved on my hdd since he first posted it. I just like the overall setting of it.

Wish I can comment on every entry, but I got to go back to work. And my vote goes to Standing. It's so hard to make the choice. =/

Dammit, this is a hard one to vote for. Main Loop, Bumskee, Lukavi, Posh Spice and Scumgridner all deserve to get my vote. But, of course it can only be one and it goes to Posh Spice. She looks believable as a charcter and the execution is top notch.

Congrats to Oregano too on the great turn out.

Other bows for:
scumgrinder & sinix - distinguishable.
shamagim and oregano - mood and design
magicgoo - punchy - good for logo.
whoami - light and render.. and tits :)
Teigrob - great presentation
m@. - render/values

Definately a tough choice on who the clear winner should be as there are many, many top-notch entries.

In terms of composition, I feel Standing, Oregano, and Posh are the best. In terms of presentation, Teigrob.

Ultimately, I choose Teigrob because of the presentation. It feels more like what you would expect to see in determining a character for animation (Disney style at that). That and I'm a sucker for good, western traditional animation.

JonnyAwesome
not quite enough emphasis on the character, I think. She kinda melts into the background unless you stare directly at her.

JeffZNY
besides some anatomical issues (that I'm sure you've heard about already) I don't get the "urban" part of your character.

Danomight
haha, that's great! Her face makes her look kinda weird though... I think her head might be too big, but it's difficult to tell.

Oregano
GREAT piece. you even get the sense that she can't really go out on the streets because of her outlawish nature. Only reason you didn't get my vote was because you didn't incorporate the "parkour" part of the brief at all.

PrinceofHappiness
Mostly anatomical stuff. You missed the parkour part... and the breasts of this girl are like apples taped to her chest.

bengonzalez
I THINK I see the katana... is it that little rod sticking out of her left shoulder? Anyway, good job man, I love the movement in this piece... you get a sense of gravity, but with the jump in there as well. Crit for ya: the right forearm is REALLYlong... the elbow is too high up (I think!)

magicgoo
GREAT piece. I like the junk katana!

Whoami
anatomy issues. the size of the torso and feet don't match up with the way the legs taper as your eyes move down. She'd probably have longer legs. Great rendering!

Mr. Point
I LOVE those pants. however, the torso is a bit long for how skinny it is, and it's bending like rubber. Makes me think of snake heads. Also, you need to work on the anatomy in your faces.

Lukavi
All of the best eye candy. Man, that looks great. I'd love to see her jumping off a building.

JakkaS
dude... that's cool. The arms are a bit short. I love the color scheme... is that an iPod nano on her shoulder strap?

Bumskee
No crit on your skillz, jut on your interpretation. This would fit just as easily as a ninja woman in medieval Japan as a near future urban pirateer.

Bloodsbane
Is it just me or does it look like she got flattened? Like a piece of paper?

Solorpower
Her knees and right hand bother me. Sorry.

Main Loop
this is great, dude! It's just kinda hard to see her in the midst of all that brown. You probably need to contrast her more, unless you were really going for a camouflage thing. either way, she needs to stand out as the focus of the piece.

Infinitum
dude, tighten up. Your strokes are all over the place, and it doesn't look like you put much thought into your brushes. Your proportions and sense of lighting look fine, I just think you could have done a lot more with this.

pgklos1
This is a GOOD one! It just doesn't pack the "oomph" of some of the others. The mood, perhaps, is too neutral.

Teigrob
I like this character! She'd fit very well into a disney cartoon. However, I was looking for something a little more serious this time around. Nothing against the art, man, it just wasn't to my pref. this time.

m@.
this is COOOOOl.... but the composition feels fairly dull. Everything is so straight and rigid! Your rendering is fantastic though.

panda
why did I even put my name on this list?

Brand_X
BENDY. a little TOO bendy... seems like the sketch is a bit dirty, too. I think you need more defined outlines, if you're going to have them at all.

rasdasa
this is really really dark, and I don't get a sense of "urbanism" from it. What am I looking at here?

character
that is one BIGASS sword. Good drawing, but the rendering and contrast are lacking. If the bad entries are prunes, yours is an apple, but the best entries are covered with caramel.

dogfood
MAN I loved the pose on this one! I was scrolling upwards on the page (slowly I might add) and I saw this and I was like WOAH sweet! Then I saw the face and I was like WTF SHE RAN INTO A BRICK WALL.

Firefly
this, like some others, is really hard to see. From what I can tell, though, you need to work on perspective (foreshortening) Also, you need to brush up on your anatomy of the extremeties (hands and feet)

morbidhumor
Very cool, but it's hard to tell what she's actually doing. Is the right hand hanging onto something? I can't tell, it looks like she's climbing a prison wall or something. also, having the smooth outline around her limits the movement of her clothes.

AndrewLey
No crit, that's totally badass, you nailed the weight of the mass and you got the balance right on. you almost got my vote.

Scumgrinder
HOLY SHIT I WANT PANTS AND SHOES LIKE THOSE. Dude. I don't get the parkour, urban, or the "corsair" aspect of it at all, but that is one kickin' outfit.

vOrcatraz[/B]
dude, that's cool. Her shirt's kinda weird though... and probably because of the way you painted it, it looks like you painted the background, and then tossed her in without caring how they interacted. It doesn't really look like she's standing on the road.

Diego
She looks kinda like a halfling. Good idea, good concept, but the execution is lacking. Her left forearm is also extremely long. In the future, I'd also be wary about using gradient lighting. It makes the character blend into the background too well; remember that light also reflects.

Shamagim
CRAZY good, man. This is an EXCELLENT piece. I didn't vote for it only because of a matter of personal preference.

XGabo
Wow.... contortion-ey. Mostly, yours suffers from inconsistent lighting and anatomy issues. The more highly saturated light on the leg doesn't match up with the muted lighting on her right arm.

rick_hershey
That's kinda freaky man. The lighting is very spotty on her left leg. Mostly, you need to work on your anatomy, especially in the face.

griff
This is funny... I'm not sure what you were going for though. It's very difficult for me to tell what's supposed to be stylized and what's just badly drawn... If you were trying to make it mostly realistic and want further crits, just pm me or reply in this post or something.

vigostar
Great colors! The converse being white, though, makes it look like this is unfinished.

Evil_Sloth
those are some LONG legs. I love the katana. She looks a bit off balance, and it also seems as though you could stand to work on your skull structure a bit.

Poshspice
Wow. Just wow. This is CRAZY good. I LOVE this piece. The mood and lighting are fantastic, and you even got it to match the colors of the site. I would have loved to have seen her jumping rooftops or kicking ass... but you got it just right so that it looked like she was already done with that for the day, and would smack you upside the head if you suggested she do some more. A+.

Teal
You need to clean up your stuff a bunch. The lines are really ragged where they are, and the paint is even more so where they aren't. Also, up your contrast so we can see where the light source is coming from.

young paddy1
This is great! but.... it looks unfinished. There's barely any rendering on the body, which would be fine if you hadn't STARTED to do some and then stopped. It just looks like you got fed up with this.

Mykro
Good one. You, like some of the others here, should probably tighten up. Also, the left hand draws me to it like some kind of magnet. I don't know why.

Sinix
DUDE. DUDE!
The lighting is GREAT!
The form is GREAT!
The clothes are GREAT!
Dude... the only reason this one didn't get my vote was because it was stationary... but shit, that's eye candy for you right there.

Drawnblud
Very cool. A bit too comic book-esque for my taste though.

machzero
WOA girl this is cool! the only thing I'll crit you on is that her face is REALLY flat... like someone just hit her in the face with a dumpster or something.

yAdam
this would be so much more badass if I could distinguish more of her. Darker outlines or brighter highlights.

GriNGoLoCo
the upper body is great! it looks like you lost interest once you started doing the legs.

Interceptor
Very cool. It looks unfinished compared to some of the others though.

Ollimar
WARNING! ANIME ALERT! WTFMANG... these people will own you if you keep that up. Draw from life a bunch, or TRY to make it look realistic, because that'll help your anime skills a WHOLE LOT MORE than just drawing anime.

bRØk3n_sPiRiT
Cool, but a very long neck, and the entire composition is falling off the left side of the page.you might have wanted to tilt the shoulders or the face the other direction.

VirusArtist
Same crit as Drawnblud: Very cool. A bit too comic book-esque for my taste though.

redehlert
HAHAHAHa.... having fun, dude? this is cool, i love the colors. Also a matter of personal preference though.

al-x
WOAH.

WOAH.
dude... you best not be complaining ever again about this. GREAT work. fantastic composition. Your preliminary sketch alone blew me out of the water... and I love the utility fork at the end of the katana. Props to you.

Nutter
great work nutter. Minor anatomy issues, but great work. I'd stay away from those spot highlights on the skin, though.

Standing
HAHAHAHA! I laughed out loud at this one. You have a couple of issues with her feet, but that's GREAT! LAWL.

WHEW.... I had to do that all through entering inventory at work... Critting every week three times a week... this is gonna kill me if I don't skip a couple.

'Kin 'ell! I've been away fer a few days and the thread has exploded...! There's some incredible entries here. I want to say something about all of them, and will try to tomorrow... but for now I'm going to have to think good and proper about who to vote for...

I think this one has been interesting as an opener for the weekly challenge, because there have been two briefs really: design the character, but also consider it might be used as a logo as well. It's a case of which answers both criteria best but is still a stonking image!

Big tugging of forelock to Oregano for getting this together! :)

Hey Panda thanks for the crit (hmm... praise), my ego needed that. Still though I'm not that fond of my colored version. In my thread in the finally finished section I went back to the b/w piece and thats probably the one that will go up on my website (as soon as I finish working on it, it's so boring writing stylesheets, javascripts and html though). Sorry if I seemed like I whiny whimp... I have a love/hate relationship to my art.

My vote went to Standing. It's the best executed entry and its funny. But you gotta watch those feet dude, they seem a bit round. And If this was a game character I wonder if it would read as a he or she...

My other favs are Poshspices grumpy looking playboybunny and Lukavis cool stylish pirate/ninja. She's got some curves, but how is she holding that sword (yeah I know it strengthens the composition ;) )

Hooooooooly crap. Seriously...all of you have outdone yourselves. This is some of the best work to come out of quite a bit of you. It makes the decision extreeeeemly tough. I'm still trying to figure out if it's even possible for me to vote on any one (or if I'm gonna have to do like Oregano and roll a freakin' die)...here's a few of my favs:

AndrewLey: Very interesting pallette choice. I'm not feeling her foot on the pole though, and some of the brushstrokes seem a little unplanned. Still, an overall solid piece.

Scumgrinder: Simple design but very elegent pose and great finish.

orcatraz: Really solid pose and composition on this (other than the sword leaving the frame). I think this would have been an awesome line drawing. The quality of the digipaint really takes away from what I think is a solid piece. Did you just run out of time?

Poshspide: I don't think anything really needs to be said. *drool*

Sinix: Still love your graphical style. Between this and your t-dome piece I see a consistency in your character designs. I think this one overall is an improvement though. Great color choices.

Drawnblud: Great design and drawing. I think, like orcatraz's, the digipaint detracts from it a bit. It's a bit too digital looking.

machzero: man, I love everything about this...except for the face. Her face seems flat and has very little volume. But the rest of the piece..the pose, the focal distance, etc... is spot on.

Interceptor: Would have loved to see this finished, even if I'm not sure what's going on with her foot ;)

al-x: Just awesome. I love the choice of the two images, showing character and action. The painting on the color looks a little unfinished in some areas (like the flames on her pants) but it's still just a solid design. The black and white rendition is really great. Love the ink like textures.

Standing: Brilliant! Awesome story, awesome depiction, great design. This one is seriously begging to get my vote.

Oregano: Definately one of your better pieces to date. Your color, composition, painting, all showing improvements in this one. Solid design and a good atmosphere too.

magicgoo: Like Oregano, I think this is definately one of your best pictures to date from what I've seen. Seriously, leaps above most of the images I've seen from you. Pose, rendering, color choice, all solid on this one.

whoami: Love the rendering and lighting. It's really getting that painterly feel. Great sense of form and volume. However, she looks very masculine (even with the exposed breasts). Her shoulders just seem way too massive compared to her waist. Like the foreshortening on her body's been reversed.

lukavi: Love the design here. Veering away from the traditional vision of cyberpunk and going with more historical influences. Definately a stand out piece!

JakkaS: I've never seen any of your other work, so this is a bit out of context. While I think your figure needs quite a bit of work, I can tell that a lot of effort went into this. The care put into this really shows and shines through. The painting itself along with the sense of action is really great. The environment is definately getting there too in terms of helping to set the scene. I have a feeling this is probably a milestone image for you. Keep workin' on that figure and drapery and I can see a great future!

bumskee: Simple, but effective! Her torso looks a bit flat, but that face is gorgeous. Really makes me want to see behind the veil!

solorpower: Love the pose and expression here. Simple, yet greatly effective at making the viewer want to know more.

m@.: Awesome. The poses of the secondary figures, especially in the back, could probably use a bit more thought, but the main figure's just great, and the use of values and detail to really draw focus to her is very well done. Nice use of modern symbolism to tie it into the "not so distant" future.

Geeze, I don't even know how many comments that was, but seriously, so hard to decide! And there was lots of great stuff going on in a lot of the other ones. Like JakkaS, I can tell there were quite a few personal milestones hit in these pictures. Props to all of you!

After all that, I think I'm gonna vote Standing, just because it really speaks to me. Might have something to do with the little blurb he wrote, I dunno. Too tough a choice to make lightly, but I think he's gonna get my vote. Although, to be fair, I think magicgoo's would probably make a better "mascot" as it were.

my favorites are: Phuzion (of course), Main Loop, Standing, Oregano, and Sinix.

Panda: Thanks for the critique... er wait, the comments! Ha ha! I must admit, everytime I look at my drawing I laugh to myself. It's pretty silly. Lately I feel like I have been doing the same type of thing over and over, so I decided to do something completly different. It's not the greatest, but it was really fun to draw and color.
