ANyone know where to find a good pencil brush? I have been working on stuff lately and I haven't ever been able to come up with an decent looking pencil. Thanks

If you want pencils - go to Painter - I use the fine-detail under Airbrush...its better than the real thing...

I would but I like the layers and set up in Photoshop better for this. Plus I haven't found a good pencil in Painter anyway ;) Although I haven't checked the one you like.

You can make a custom brush that rivals those in Painter (I run both apps).
Just find a brush that you like using, and adjust it's properties to more closely resemble pencil marks. Just read your PS help files on creating custom brushes.

Add a bit of noise, reduce the spacing, possibly check/uncheck the various boxes for smoothness, dyamics, and the like.

Also check the Adobe forums, someone probably has already created some Pencil-type brushes that you can just download.

I've been frustrated with this before, too. Very hard to emulate pencil sketching in Photoshop without the proper brush, isn't it? I've ended up using a custom brush that I like a lot instead. It doesn't really emulate pencil, but it works quite well for sketching just the same. Especially at larger sizes. Setting the Angle parameter to Direction is very useful, unless if Smoothing is off.

If you ever decide to switch over to the dark side and use Painter - don't forget to play with the wacom settings when using the Fine detail airbrush...I move it 2 notches to the "firmer" side...
