which airbrush to buy

I want to get an airbrush for painting clay sculptures. I was wondering if a double action or single action is better. Also what brand and type is good to get. Thanks for any help and if someone else allready has a thread like this please show it to me.

I'm not sure what single or double action means?! But.. I own a SimAir Airbrush which I'm very happy with indeedy, and I'm not sure if they sell em over there or not but I'm sure they do. There used to be an excellent airbrush company called, 'Badger' but I haven't seen em around for eons. SimAir have a large range though, and I personally think they're top stuff.

I would go with double action. I feel it has more control when it comes to doing gradations and highlights. As far as brands go, the only ones I've used are Iwata's. I hear paasche also makes good brushes. Hope this helps

single action-air pressure is controlled at the compressor, only paintflow is controlled by gun, while a dual action usually depressing button will start airflow, and pulling back lever will allow paint to flow. Badger is also a good brand of airbrush.

I have a Badger 150 (dual action) that I've had for quite some time now. Even when I worked as a model artist at a local toy company they used the exact same model. As far as I know they're pretty popular and easy to find extra parts for. If you get a variety of tips (small, medium, and large) along with the matching needles, you should be able to tackle just about anything. Hope this helps... :^^:

I've used airbrushes for years and just about every kind. Iawata and badger make excellent airbrushes, but the neadles are easily damaged and maintanence is a pain. Most airbrushes have that problem.

I'd recommend going with a Aztek brand you can find the kits at http://naturecoast.com/hobby/aztek.htm They are a bit different than your usual airbrush design and plastic, but they are extrememly sturdy and easily maintained. They can do anything just as well as your more expensive brands, but they are far cheaper. The extra tips they give you mean you can run anything from water to pretty thick paints through them. Always go with a double action airbrush, it gives you more control.

Other than push down for air, pull back for paint, nobody's going to be able to tell you how to use an airbrush on a post like this.

It's not that hard, just buy a book with some examples then start practicing with the exercises in it. The exercises should help you develop the quordination with the airbrush you'll need to get it to do what you want. That's all there is too it.
