Sculpting materials

As I am a total newbie in this field any recommendations would be most welcome. I am looking for sculpting materials and accessories that can be purchased online and delivered internationaly.

I heard that proffesional maquetes for film are made from 'Sculpey' or similar? I guess there is much diversity in this field based on final use of maquetes (figurines). In my case i would prolly use them as decoration or reference when modeling in 3d programs. It would be nice if someone would reccomend alternative soft/non-rigid material that could be used for figurines that have moving parts.

Anyways as I said any info is welcome!

Yes, Super Sculpey is the stuff marquettes for films are usually made from. It's difficult to get in Germany, don't know about the other countries. Very similar to Super Sculpey is FIMO Soft (from a German manufacturer) which is, as far as I know also available in the US and many other countries. Both materials are baked at low temperatures (120-130 degree Celsius) in your home oven.

When sculpting, consider getting yourself a (cheap) pasta machine which helps to easily produce thin long strands and flat large pieces.

I'm only a fun and hobby sculpturer myself (once in a while, last one I did last summer...).

Hey, when not making sculptures i might even uses it for making pasta ;).

PS. Are Super Sculpey figurines paintable by acrylic colors or similar?

There's a really cool forum here with plenty of answer!

For now I'm a beginer too, but I use clay(because I don't exactly do figurines eh eh) and I find these site especially helpfull.
I hope I can show some things some day :D
