Some quick life sketches

Here are a bunch of life sketches. These are some drawings from a class I took about a year ago at the Mass College of art...a bit of refresher. The instructor had a radically different approach to figure drawing than I had been exposed to. He had a "structual diagram" for the body and would lay it in first to get the proper reference points and "connections". the Jill and Tim drawings are representative.

...The Peg drawings are from Pre-Class...They use negative/positive space and show my method of scribbling to acheive benchmarks and gesture, then establishing more assertive lines over the "layouts".

It was good to get a different perspective! criticism is always welcome, and pictures speak louder...

I like the style of your sketches - can you post more information on the "structural diagram" your instructor teached?

i love peg2, i think some of the legs are a bit thin in some, might be something you want to watch in the future.

Great stuff - the first ones remind me of muscles and tendons. Do i make sence?

Sure...his diagram was based on basic structure, which is comprised of muscles, tendons and skeleton.

Id be interested in that also. I've been reading alot of Loomis lately. like to see a different approach to figure drawing. btw great sketches.

Sorry for the late response, but I finally found the time to take the shots and post. Here's the diagrams I copied down in class. The rear one is earlier and more crude. You can see the lines that he carries through. You need to think of them as drawn of the figure volume.

Looking pretty good so far. The diagrams look Frank Reilly-esc. Looks like you need memorization of construction.

It sounds like this class was with Paul Rahilly...he was a student of Reilly's and uses a version of his method...awesome painter, great guy, still teaches at mass art
