3 new additions to my creator-owned book are Zip,Mekk, and Tekk.
Almost done with the main crew line-up. I just have to wrap up the design for Kai. I found an awesome writer, for my creator-owned project, but it's a secret for now. Sorry!

I know that I went straight to a new design for Mekk. I wasn't totally feeling the first two designs. I wanted something we all could relate to, and to tie more into a Japanese-type story that I developed. I decided on a regular panda, but my good buddy Ryan Odagawa did a google search for me on Red Pandas, so I referenced off of real Red Pandas, and was shocked with the final design. This one is the keeper of all Mekks. haha

Remember these cats? This is the line-up that Zip, Mekk, and Tekk are part of.

your stuff reminds me of some guy working for marvel.. i think.. anyway, good style, i would love to see some scenes with a background and maybe some more contrast in the characters. they still look a bit flat.

Your style is to be commended. Well done mate!
My only crit here is Mekk seems to be fuzzy while the rest of your characters are not. By fuzzy I mean the smear tool was used when I think his hair should be composed of flat colors like the rest of your pieces. Just a consistency issue I think.
Cheers!

hey cheeks,
mekk turned out really nice. I love the coloring on the new pics. If you ever have the time, could you do a tiny tutorial,or just show the process of how you work? I'm really curious as to how you get the results that you do...its amazing. Do you just use photoshop with lineart on a separate layer and regular color layers set on multiply?
cool stuff dude,

Joey-b- thanx!
Lim- i probably remind alot of people of someone. :P Could you elaborate more on it being "flat"? i wanna learn.
SquaredS- Absolutely right! It's just for my personal concept reasons, but I'll definitely be consistant when drawing and coloring the oneshot. Thank you!
R'johni- Thank you! I'll be putting out a book of my collected artwork, and in it will have a step by step coloring tutorial. in it. I keep my lineart in the channels area, so it keeps my file size smaller. when i am done coloring i bring it over to layers and multiply it on top.

hey cheeks,
ok,I tried figuring it out,but I'm stupid. :\
How exactly did you put the linework in the channels. Did you make a new channel or put the linework in an existing channel? I created a new channel, and it created a channel called alpha1...ok so that was ok,cuz when I pasted the linework it appeared...but then when I clicked on the layers section to create a color layer...the linework disappeared...does that sound right?
Anyways,I know you're busy,if you can't answer to this no prob...keep up the good work dude... :confident

man....
your style is flawless. clean , sharp, wonderful.
you`re a minimalist in line, in color and in shade,
and you`re so damn good at it.
i wish you`d be so kind to show how the hell you do it.
you can call it a tutorial.
yeah.
that`ll be just fine.

awesome style you got there.
I personally feel that the outline colors can be a shade darker on oki/zero like you have for jojo/no1. Great job!

you're doing everything right. it disappeared because the eyeball was off in the other channels except for the alpha 1 channel. after, making the new channel with the lineart click the eyeball in the rgb channel before clicking that channel. if it disappears in the future just remember to go back to click the eyeball on.

Dutch Badass- thank you so much! :bashful:
Bomba- jason! thank you! will you be at the LA con? if so cruise by the table!
Chuck,mate.- a tutorial will come, but when i catch a minute. thank you for the the comment :)!
dibumac- thank you! yes, i did go a step further. i wanted to make sure i can have more range in my artwork.
VizualByte- you're absolutely right. i sometimes go back to my earlier style of coloring where my lineart's opacity is lowered. i am trying to make the stand and let the lineart carry out it's part. thank you for noticing, and thank you for the comment!

I think "LIM" was referring to the Marvel comic drawn by Mike Mignola, Rocket Raccoon. Resembles it a little, but I wouldnt make a big deal of it. this stuff looks really cool. Great job Sean!

Sorry for hijacking this thread but could i ask something abt the channel..thing? Ive never really understood anything when it comes to channels. What exactly does it do and how do u do it? Im a newbie and i'd like to learn as much as i can. Oh and cheeks, was the lineart done digitally or did u draw and scanned it?

March 15th, 2005, 11:48 PM
Gezstar- thank you! :)
Aidil- no problem! well, i honestly don't know the full capability of the channels area. i was taught to stick my lineart in there a few years ago, and I stayed with it. i draw traditionally with a pencil, and scan it in. sorry that i couldn't be much more help. there is a book by antarctic press called "how to color comics" i believe there are 2 issues, written, and illustrated, in comic book format.
