Well aside form what people think of politics and religion, I think the OBVIOUS answer to this clue is the television. Nightly news shows nothing except violence, destruction, and promotions for their other network-specific shows (I hardly think a trailer for the newest prime-time drama is newsworthy). The press loves to make us think that the world is falling down around us and scare us into thinking we're all going to die from the next outbreak of war/disease/fast-food, etc.

So my vote for the "Prophet of Destruction" is the very thing for which Destruction is profit...
