Please feel free to post some ideas for the COW-activity, which will start very soon! The activity is about CREATURES ONLY!!!

here is the thread for further infos:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=37349

The topics should not be too specific and give the artist enough space to implement new and fresh ideas...

good example: lava eating creature that lives in volcanic craters
bad example: alien redesign with fur and 3 eyes

stupid examples, but you got the point...

I will pick randomly topics from this list, unless the suggestions don't fit in the above criterias...

enough said, go! :bashful:

1) gigantic space dwelling animal.

2) creature(s) responsible for keeping the core of the earth spinning.

3) If mars once had Dinosaur type creatures on it?

4) Insects that live on the rocks of the rings of saturn.

5) (Branching off of Jackeofi's idea about the living ship) - Animals that are naturaly, while still alive, armour for humans. ie. U could go in the woods and capture a "Gauntlet Turtle" or "Crow Pauldron."

a few ideas tossed whimsically from my mind whilst under the influence:::

- A bipedal creature with at least 3 different species incorporated. (Bipedal = two legged). For instance: Head of a wolf, body of a human, legs of a lion. Whey basic.

- Two creatures that live symbiotically on one another and will die if separated.

- A monster that can blend into everyday city streets and not be noticed.

- A beast made from clotted blood that continually flows and cannot be stopped.

- The underwater creature that really sunk the titanic.

- Something discovered in aztec or incan ruins.

- Older than the sun.

Hope these are some fun and fairly open ended ideas. Id like to see one of em done ;) Enjoy and on with the fun!! MOO!

we keep in in the basement

the thing that would not die

an unwelcome guest

it pathetically tried to use the silverware

small, compact, lethal

the gentle giant

it can smell your fear

crossbred to madness

its love for her killed it in the end

a family secret

don't laugh at it , that will only make it angry

feeding its young

the female of the species is more dangerous than the male

mating season

the doppelganger

and to think, it was just a little boy once

it runs in packs

it requires a living host for its young

the digestion can take up to a week

cyclopean

watching it eat made the guests sick

it devours its young

my father was a great man, to see this as his final creation, is just incomprehensible

the husks of their corpses eventually were made into vast cities, and the titans were forgotten

it feeds on the dreams of children

40 eyes

once the door was opened, no one could close it

it could consume up to 40 quarts of blood a day

in the day, it looked innocuous

with the dawn, came the swarm

the eggs had been laid, it was too late to save her

wearing a human skin was a feeble disguise for this disgusting and stupid creature

upon insertion, it would swell to a lethally huge size

Okay, this one is going to need a little bit of a preface:

My kids have their own worlds, "Dragono" and "Eagano". They have come up with, among many, many, many, many other things, the Zap Mighty Electric.

Now, I'm not *entirely* certain what a Zap Mighty Electric *is*, but what I've gathered is that it is some sort giant biomechanical creature used to defend both Dragono and Eagano from the "Debles" of "Debleno", the *ULTIMATE* bad-guys.

Now, Zap Mighty Electrics have got, well, weapons, and more weapons. And they're armored. And have *lots* of limbs to hold all of the weapons. And they sort of look like lobsters. Or crabs. Or something...armored. They are invincible. Indestructable. They can't be busted or broken or damaged. Dust goes everywhere when they take a step (quoting my four year old here...). They're *really* big. Huge. So if you want to draw one close up, you have to use a *really* big piece of paper.

And they have pinchers, too. They hold giant lightsabers, too. They hold different kinds of fighting tools, too, like axes and swords and things. And guns.

They can be different colors. Usually two colors, but *not* rainbow. And dragons and eagles can sometimes ride inside.

[edit]: It' important to note that the dragons of Dragono are six limbed, four hands, two legs. Actually, the more limbs, the better, and tend to be very scientific and technologically advanced. However; the Eagles of Eagano are Bald Eagles, they use their feet like hands, and are noble warriors ;)

Well, i didnt know where to put this comment, but here it goes:

" So far, the art seen in C.O.W is really good, some have movement, some a really good pain work, and others are cool ideas, but if i have to say anything bad about it, it would be the lack of reseach to make the concepts ( moust of the research related problems appeared in the symbiosis predator C.O.W), im not saying that is neesesary for concept artist to folow biology perfectly, im just saying that they should be able to undestand the basic concepts(moustly to play with them in order to get even better concept art)..."

So my point is that the next C.O.W s could ask for research fomr the artists ( ridiculous i know) or ( this could be better) this forum could have another weekly or montly contest that could be more related to make a research on a topic( an interesting topic of cource), and then post the results and making them original at the same time ( as i already said, to research doesnt mean that you need to do things with perfect logic, it mean you can play with logic and create original concepts).

As for new ideas for C.O.W, is better to use vague and general words or frases, for example -"flying terror" or " Tricky Beast"..

Thats all i think ;)

Not to be an ass, but I have a hard time taking a post about lack of research seriously when it's so chalked full of typographical errors...

As for the research aspect, Fozzy is the final say, but I think this is more about imagination. Obviously, if someone puts more scientific research into their piece, it will be better, depending on the subject. But it's really up to the artist.

And regarding your last point - "As for new ideas for C.O.W, is better to use vague and general words or frases, for example -"flying terror" or " Tricky Beast".."

...*what* :?: That doesn't even make sense. Is this a question? Are you stating something? I'm sorry, I just don't understand what you are saying here...

Im sorry about the typos, i did the post kinda fast and all :dead:(really sorry about that), but you dont need to get mad at me, i wasnt attacking anyone, as for my point, i did say that i wasnt talking about specific knoledge, i was talking about basic concepts, such as "symbiosis" or "predator" ( i wasnt saying that you should know the quemical composition of the chitin armor)

Also i wasnt saying that C.O.W should be about research, i actually did say my own idea was ridiculous, and then i said that it would be nice if we had another weekly contest beside this one, and that one could be about researching concepts..

As for my last point, i dont think i need to explain it, cause is not that important.....

Sorry again :(

Ancestors (Chose two previous COW winners, and determine a common ancestor they both evolved from - go back as far as needed)

Generalized (Like the first rodents which spawned bats, whales, and horses - something unique which is bound to change and spread into every niche)

Environmental Transistion (A water species evolved to deal with a drought, a herd species evolved to deal with an agressivly expanding forest, herbivores begetting a carnivore)

Motherly Love (Reproductive forms not using traditional eggs or live birth)

Metamorphosis (undergoes change from infancy to adulthood)

Sensation (Senses the environment with something other than sight, smell, sound, etc)

Good Eats (Domesticated creature raised for food)

Migration (Creature designed to travel long distances)

Tethered (Never moved more than a few feet from it's birthplace)

Tool Inspiration (Beavers make dams, birds weave nests, paper wasps make hives. What natural activity of your creature gives its sentient neightbors an idea for a new technology?)

Actually, how about just suggesting the name of a creature, and see how people interpret that? There have been some quite creative / humorous names for creatures conceived in the concept descriptions already. Might be an interesting change of pace and probably better than a completely open round...who knows quite what a Frizbongular Tappit, Cornswoggler, or Heaving Multrassian Fitch looks like?

In fact, why not fun it up a bit? Wouldn't some of our usernames make for interesting creatures? Just scrolling quickly back on this thread produces some interesting ones - Zaknafain, Salvadorcoran, Magicgoo and even Fozzybar ( :x ) all suggest fun stuff in my head. So, I suggest...

How about a creature birthed from human ignorance...

I dont know how it would have spawned..maybe on a metaphysical level, but in any case, its primary functions would include things feeding on ignorance of course, and in the process eating the sensibilities of its vicitms leaving them devoid of motivation, dreams, and energy.

It would reproduce by completely taking over a humans ability to function, which would spawn a new 'nignog' inside the humans soul. Can also affect other creatures, except for the fact that other creatures generally tend to have strong instincts, which do not allow the breeding of 'nignogs'. However, dogs are one exception

...that it's a funny, but presumably not serious, topic suggestion that would be a very strange choice when there are several pages of suitable creature ideas to draw from. I think we want to be careful that creature of the week, doesn't turn into turn these words into the caption for a single frame cartoon of the week, as occasionally happens with the DSG. I don't see how the topic in question would give any scope for serious design.

S.C. Watson

Um, yeah. NO on the mermaid anal parasite venemouse bird rehash thing.

I *would* like to see C.O.W. take a slightly different/more professional turn, though, if I may be so bold here.

Uziel had a great idea of working on creature ideas for upcoming movies, which is where really something like this would be seen the most (not counting games).

But what I'd really like to see is more of a description in the title of the pic instead of leaving that up to the artists - my reasoning is thus: when I'm commissioned by someone to do a picture, say Fantasy Flight Games, they give me the description and I have to match that. Not the other way around.

Sometimes it does happen that I get a vague illo description from someone, but that's not too often.

For example, here's the illo description for one of the cards I did for FFG, Watkins Root Cellar:

Exterior shot of external cellar doors that have been swung open. There are stairs leading down into darkness. There are claw-like scratches on the insides of the doors, hoof-prints in the mud outside the cellar, and muddy (bloody?) hoofprints on the stairs. We can't see the creature that made these marks, but we see glowing red eyes glowering at us from inside the darkness.

I interpeted it this way (http://sketchforums.com/uploads/post-11-1110921210.jpg), but it could have been handled a thousand different ways. Now, FFG is fairly lax with their descriptions and how the artist interpet them. I've some clients that provide me *pages* of write up, describing not only the characters, but what they're wearing, where they'er standing, their expression, etc. So, it can go to an extreme I'm not proposing for this. I'd say we keep it about the FFG level. Let the person submitting the idea spend some time creating the creature and perhaps setting and mood instead of just shooting out a bunch of unrealted words, and let the artist do their visual thang.

I think the C.O.W. would be *much* more powerful, *much* more challenging if the artists had to be more specific in what they were creating. What I'm seeing right now is everyone playing to their strengths, which is good and fun, but not really challenging, because you *know* you can do whatever it is you're good at. But if we pushed ourselves to match a description that has been previously set before the illustration has begun, I think we'd all be better and stronger artists for it.

Cheers, :yayca:

What about:

"Armored giant"( creature of cource)

"Storm creature" ( living in a storm, or feeding from it, or using it...)

oregano: i think the idea is to leave a very vague description for the creature....you can make something better if people specify of cource, but i think ( just think) that the idea is to struggle in your head about what could match the short title they just gave you.......this is much much different from taking the specs from a real CA job...cause they give you something solid enought to work with...But making something from a short idea makes the concept more "yours", Also by making just a title you get much more interpretations, and therefore a wide variety of concepts.

So in the end i disagree with you, but i consider it a good idea :teeth: and i think IOM has something more like you just descrived.

Again, just saying this to let you know i didnt ignore what you just posted in here :teeth: ( and is btw just my opinion...)

Edited again. ( because i wasnt being very clear)

Matt Dixon
April 26th, 2005, 12:36 PM
Fair point, Shane. Though you're talking about illustration there, not concept. I wonder how valid the COW would be if you remove the conceptual element?

In defense of the existing topics, I think they're intended to encourage as many participants as possible and a variety of finished images so we get to enjoy some eye candy along with our conceptual workout. A more specific brief would have the potential to turn off casual COW'ers and would obviously produce a crop of very similar submissions.

Having said that, it'd be good to mix up the topics from time to time to keep things fresh. There are plenty of worthwhile suggestions on these pages to pull from, but I think it's important that design plays a part each week.

Shamagim
April 26th, 2005, 01:05 PM
Ahh, yea i forgot to mention that i dont think mixing the ideas that much is a good one, i still think of it as a joke....( maybe the mix could be an idea for the COW 20, as a special thing..)

For now i think C.O.W still needs to get much more solid before that.. but if you end up mixing the previous anyways, i think no more than 3...otherwise is just to much.

Fozzybar
April 26th, 2005, 01:34 PM
ok, i think there is an easy way to find out, what really is a good thing to keep on or what is just not working...let's keep the main line with topics as we had them before, but from time to time i will intersperse a topic which is more like a description (as oregano said with the ffg-cards) or one with only a name of the creature only(as Matt once suggested) or any other kind of topics, which differ from the main line...

We will see quickly which round gave a great turn-out and was fun or which one were boring...

Uziel
April 26th, 2005, 01:40 PM
I can't disagree. But it would be great if you can look at COW more in a professional way and not losing the freedom. I guess some people don't brainstorm enough about the topics "what can I put in this creature to make it original, atractive and still specific"
I wouldn't mind what Oregano said but I think the discription has to be very good and original. Perhaps someday Fozzy finds the right stuff.

Edit: we had the same idea at the same time Fozzy.

How about something along these lines?

Sci-fi movie. Secondary alien character for a spaceport bar scene. This guy needs to look like a seasoned traveller, maybe a smuggler, bounty hunter or something of that sort. In shot 14-12, he needs to raise a glass, so some kind of appendage / hand will be required in the design.

First person shooter. 'Grunt' creature for rainforest environment. We want these creatures to die after one or two hits and attack in packs, so we don't need anything that looks too tough, but they do need to move quickly and should have some sort of camo suitable for their surroundings. No bigger than the main human character please, fellas!

Strategy game. I need a supply creature for the evil faction. This fellow needs to be pretty huge, slow-moving and have some way to carry trees, masonry and other supplies about. We're in a classic fantasy setting, but I don't want to see any trolls or giant orcs! Remember the evil faction's identifying colours are red and black - I need both to be obvious in your design.

Promotional CG movie. Flying beasts to populate a magical city in the clouds. The environment concepts show buildings in an ancient Greek style - lots of pillars, steps and statues - rising from large cloud formations. Sunset colours. In our last meeting the director said, ' Anything goes, but no angels. '

TV series. We need a demon for epidsode 6 of the next season. This is the only CG in this epidsode and it's only on screen for a few minutes, so we can blow the budget on this thing. It has dialogue, so it needs a mouth that's capable of speech. It also casts a spell, so we'd like arms of some kind too. Keep in mind that marketing like to push these characters as action figures, so no horns, spikes or other pointy stuff that'll cause problems getting them approved as toys!

I've tried to combine Uziel and Oregano's suggestions; mock briefs that could be part of your Monday morning emails from a lead artist / art director / production manager etc. They're all pretty open, but with a few simple challenges to overcome. What do you think?

hmmm...i am afraid that some topics tilt to the "character" section...i want to keep the creatures of C.O.W. as species which can be found in an animal encyclopedia, a whole genus of a certain creature...

While Fozzy's right about those topics being a little too character, not enough creature, I think the format would be really interesting to try out.

hmmm...i am afraid that some topics tilt to the "character" section...i want to keep the creatures of C.O.W. as species which can be found in an animal encyclopedia, a whole genus of a certain creature...That's fair, though it was the format as much as the actual descriptions that I was suggesting. I thought it'd be interesting to tackle some design with arbitrary limitations imposed by marketing departments, technology, game design, style guides etc. rather than the creature's natural evolution to it's habitat as that's what we're more likely to have to work with when doing this professionally. 'Nuff chat - there's a new COW to tackle. Whee!

I donno - I dug what you put up Matt. But I see Fozzy's point.

That said, following along the same lines, how about something like this:

Dust Mite: A cat sized hairless bioform native to the atmospheric moon of Salbao, Spinner. Skin is typically ruddy brown, but can go into the greys. Nasty disposition and very territorial. Habitat is typically desert badlands. The low gravity of Spinner allows the Dust Mite to make jumping attacks when threatend.

I just thought of an idea and wasn't sure if it has already been stated but what if the winner of C.O.W. got to choose the topic for the following week (with Fozzy's approval of course)? Fozzy your doing a great job, I just figured since there was no prize it might give a little more incentive for people to try even harder. It was just an idea, what does everyone else think? Sounds ok for me...but this could be another slow-down...usually i do 3 things when the deadline is over:

1. Opening the poll-thread
2. Posting the winner piece
3. Starting the next round

All of this happens within 1-2 hours...now, if the winning artist won't look at the results and won't send me the new topic there will be a time between the previous and the next time...

Anyway if a winner wants to pick the next topic i will let him, but i won't send any pm's to ask for...

leckronium
May 2nd, 2005, 11:38 AM
You're right, I wouldn't want to slow the process down at all. But we usually know who is going to win ahead of time. Maybe if you just left the opportunity for the would be winner to pm you his topic before the deadline is up. That way it wouldn't slow you down. If the voting is close just have the individuals who might win send you their topics. Then go with the topic of the winner after voting is closed. If the winner doesn't send you a pm on time then that's his loss. You can then choose a topic and continue with the next round on time. I would make the winner solely responsible for this privilege.

I'm hoping that most of the winners are able to pick out a good topic. And of course I would always give you the power to veto any bad choices or block any subjects that would change the direction of COW. So not much would change with this as you would have the final say over everything. I just thought it would be a nice privilege to give the winner since there isn't a prize involved. :) :blahblah:

I think this needs a bit more than just a week...
A new creature(or a group of the same creatures) that attacks a big city (like king kong, godzilla and power ranger creatures)
Main focus on the creature but oppertunity to do also an invironment (could be futuristic or present)

How about legendary creatures?

Chupacabra
Loch Ness monster
Sasquatch
Spring-Heeled Jack
The Abominable Snowman
etc.

There's a vague perception of how these creatures may look, but the stories are all a little different which might give us some interesting interpretations plus, of course, there's no reason why our entries have to look anything like the 'traditional' vision of these beasts. There'd be some interesting research to be done, too.

Fozzy, I agree with Mike and Xia. I'm checkin' the COW everyday. Great job here.

I like the idea of winners picking from a "Monster Pool" of approved monsters for the next.

Matt, dig your ideas. I'd love to see more legendary or mythic creatures. I think Davi posted a HUGE list of them on the first page or there abouts. Even some Orcs or Goblins.

Something else fun would be to take real animals and redesign them some how...maybe give them a hundred thousand years of evelotion. Mike, DigitalGannon and I did that for our first TDome way back the in the day.

(I think this is the right place to post this, if it's not, I apologize.)

I had no idea that the winner got to choose the next topic! Now there's all this pressure  I read through this whole thread and came up with these three as possibilities (they're in no order):

1. cloud dweller (thanks, Lecronium!)
2. poisonous creature w/ warning coloration
3. creature with urban/suburban camouflage (so it liveth among humans)

I like any of these, so Fozzybar, you can just choose one! I'm not sure they would all be appropriate.

creatures in unexpected places, for example, a weasel that lives in laundry hampers. animals that make their habitat in places you wouldnt expect life, toilet pipe snake, motherboard fungus, telephone ants, electrical outlet spiders, etcetera.

giant herbivores and the tiny carnivores that feed on them, i.e. a 100 foot tall giraffe like creature and the millions of lion-gnats that swarm them and flay the flesh from its bones.

cheesy sci-fi movie monsters, the cheesier the better, for example, a tentacle bound creature that has a big angry frowny face on it that attacks its victims using poorly animated electrical shocks that come out of no oriface in partiualar. design these creatures as if you needed to build the suit for a movie from the fifties and you were on a really low budget.

camoflaged animals and how they work. animals that blend in so well that they are actually around you at all times. i.e. pencil worm, pillow dog, chair spider, all these things have the capability to look like what they are described as, but can also transform into often hideous, often cuddly, adorable, marketable animals/insects/other-worldly things

animals from the eco-system of a garbage dump. belivable animals that would live within a garbage dump, we arent talking rats and seaguls here, but mold-bats and tin can-hermit crabs and effluent fish and things of the such, most important is that they are somewhat belivable.

muses, creatures that inspire people without their knowing it. for this one it is important to not force the idea, but let it come to you and we will truely see what each of our muses looks like.

evolutions, think 2,000,000 years from now and draw a picture of what your dog or cat would look like, maybe a crow, any animal that you are familiar with make sure to explain the evolution and the reasons for those hypodermic fangs on the chinchilla of the future.

the ecosystem of the brain, small creatures that live within the human brain, they hunt their prey in the crevasses of the grey-matter, they feed on rogue synapses and often times they take a big old dump on your frontal lobe. draw the creature, and explain its routine.

Anyone of you ever read the neverending story??
the nothing is the task to draw.
proballly impossible

I'll give you ( a rather large qoute) of the script in the scene where they disribe the 'nothing' maybe It'll clear something up.

Qoute from the moviescript
Rockbiter:
Mmm. That was limestone, with a dash of quartz. Very tasty. Where I come from in the north we used to have exquisite gourmet rocks, only now...now they're all gone.

Nighthob:
Huh, I know how it happened.

The Rockbiter makes a boyscouts honor sign.
Rockbiter:
I swear it wasn't me.

Nighthob:
Hah ! Heck no.

Tiny:
I think I know what it was, tell us more.

Rockbiter:
Near my home there used to be a beautiful lake, but then it was gone.

Tiny:
Did the lake dry up?

Rockbiter:
No, it just wasn't there anymore. Nothing was there anymore. Not even a dried up lake.

Tiny:
A hole ?

Rockbiter:
No, a hole would be something. Nah, it was nothing. And it got bigger and bigger. First there was no lake anymore and then finally, no rocks.

Nighthob: Hah! If he keeps stuffing his face like that, soon there won't be any rocks left here either!

(Nighthob complains to the little man. As he starts to walk away, the little man grabs him.)
Tiny:
Nighthob, this could be serious!

Rockbiter, what you have told us is also occurring where I live in the west ! A strange sort of Nothing is destroying everything.

Nighthob:
Yes, we Nighthobs live in the south. And it's there too.

Rockbiter:
So, so it's not just in our part of Fantasia?

Nighthob:
Maybe, it's already everywhere...

(Nighthob hisses looking around suspiciously smelling the air.)

Maybe our whole land is in danger. What can we do?

Rockbiter:
My people are sending me to the Ivory Tower, to the Empress for help

Nighthob and Tiny:
We are..

Tiny:
We are on the same mission. After all, if the Empress can't save us, who could?

Nighthob:
Then why are we all just standing around here instead of taking off for the Ivory Tower?

Tiny:
Right, what are we waiting for ?

sorry maybe a little long quote (is the spelling right of the word 'qoute'?)
this qoute was taken from: http://www.scifiscripts.com/cartoon/never.htm

This idea of something that was so devasting that you couldn't give it name, and it was something that did't had a word to desrcibe it dazzeld my mind for months when i was a little kid and I read the book for the first time.

The book got some nice drawings aswell, the first letter of every chapter was a weird letter with a drawing of the main event in the chapter.

Hope I could contribute to the ideas

I got the idea for this after looking at Matt's Olifactori race for the Shit eaters:

How about something from existing science fiction or fantasy stories? I guess this would be a little more of a structured C.O.W. in that it would need a creative brief like the Evil Supply Creature.

For example, we could do something from Larry Niven's Ringworld Series, like the Kzin, Pierson Puppeteers or a Pak Protector. Of course, it doesn't have to be from Niven's work - it could be any author.

How about traditionally earth-dwelling creatures in a world where masses of rock and soil circle the world in ultra-low orbit? The animals or whatevers would have to have some method of moving from one floating megalith to another, hence the idea of wings.

No, actually, I BS'ed that whole idea out of thin air. I just thought, "Bulette... Bullet... that song... bullet with butterfly wings.... bulette with butterfly wings....yeah."
So FWIW, that's a serious suggestion.

Legendary Chupacabras [Choo-pah-ka-bras]. The outer space version.

This is a creature that has been left behind on Earth, stranded from its "owners", who prays on livestock for nurishment. It has the face of a gargoyle, wings, and walks erect. Its super-large eyes reflect a strange yellow-orange glow when hit with a bright light. When shot, it emmits a loud, strange screeching sound that echoes. It has been described as a yellow "blur" as it moves, by some witnesses, and others say it's green. When it comes into contact with people it will sit there and stare back at you, as if trying to communicate, then it leaps into the air and disappears. UFO's have been sighted days prior to a Chupacabras sighting or livestock deaths.

Sorry, couldn't resist this one after watching a National Geographic documentary on Chupacabras.

I like that one a lot. Reminds me of the Niven book The Integral Trees (which I have only read about) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Integral_Trees

Hey Foz and all!
The past two COWs have really turned up the heat which I like. I was thinking that perhaps in a few future COWs we could all have a general idea (like anything posted above) and then one specific feature wether it be number of limbs, fur, scales, etc. That way we can enjoy the freedom of what the creature looks like, but we all have a unifying theme much like the triped did.
What say you?
Cheers,
D

you mean for example something like "3 headed Dragon", like "dragon" as general topic and "3-headed" as specification?

redehlert
December 14th, 2005, 02:17 PM
kind of. i think that the general could be 'dragon' and the global specific would be 'three-headed' in this example. does that make sense to you?

How about taking a common animal, maybe a house pet or farm animal, and speculating on what its distant evolutionary descendents might look like?

Idiot Apathy
December 29th, 2005, 11:08 PM
Been watching some Animal Planet recently, kind of infatuated with how different animals are specially tuned to their own enviroments; say like an ant-eater to eat ants, giraffes with their long necks to eat tree foliage.

Figured it would be a bit more a mind-stretch to create an animal for an enviroment so:

An animal whos main food source exists in the wind/air?
An animal who exists on sunlight.
Animal that grows its own food source, perhaps using sunlight or a chemical process.
Water animal who's primary food source is either land based or flys.

I dunno, something a bit more design based; freestyle but with an objective?

I hope I don’t copy any idea, but this is my proposition:

Color Eater – creature witch turn every colors in black & white.
Tones of Blood Please!!! - ..some fearless predator?
Space Vagabond -…I remember this name from some Star Wars book,
Insomniac – this one is especially for you, Chuck, mate! :)
Blind hunter – some creature using other senses then sight.
A New Year’s pet after the year! - …it’s late, but maybe we can make it in the next year.

When I find some more good ideas…I will post them here!
