I'm a huge braindead maya newb..so..that being said,is there any way within the program or other means to get my 5 second maya vid renders to under 500mb and have them still looking great? I can tweak the visuals and turn off the bells and whistles but then I'm left with a smooth running low res piece of shit. I got a p4 2.4 and almost a gig of ram..and a pretty decent video card..I should be ok for gear..right?

If you are rendering them out to AVI's then they are going to be uncompressed and huge. Your best bet is to render them out as single frames and then use something the After Effects or Premiere to put them together and compress them. I am not sure if there are free or cheaper programs out there that will do this.

thank you kindly for the advice..my crew and I figured out another way, just drag the file in the windows movie maker and resave it as a movie..it got it down to 981k..a whole hell of alot better then 315mb,and I didn't lose much quality if any at all.
