I've done a few on paper, but I dont have a scanner. I'm going to try and do more of these. Well enough said, here's the first one.

Day 4:
I'm getting a better feel for the way light is hitting my face, but my hair is still way off. Tips would be great. I'm going to study how others do it now.

showing progress there, i'd say stick these in the monthly SP threads with everyone else and you'll get alot more feedback, unless you plan to churn one out per day, keep at it either way :-)

looks ok, perhaps the distance chin>nosebottom is too long. the lighting is getting better, keep at it. there are no real helpful critiques other then keep practicing. so donīt let yourself getting lazy ;)
for the hair, just outline it, then shade in big mases, not every single hairstoke.

Another day another SP. I didnt like this one as much as yesterday, but I eliminated almost all "hard lines," which was one of my goals. The eyes were just not right, I tried to do them over and over again, but to no avail. And the general structure was off a bit.
Any other crits I'd be glad to hear them.

I decided not to even bother with yesterday's sp anymore. I tried about 6 times to fix the eyes to no avail. So I guess its supposed to be that way :bashful:
Anyway here's today. I'm happy with the way it came out, but its evident I need a bigger mirror. I'm working with a 3.5inch x 3.5inch. :$

I used today's sp for reference, and went crazy. Its a bit rough, but I think it came out ok.

Looking really good man. I'm not to sure about the colored one though, it's a bit bright for me. :)

I've been having troubles getting the right form down. When I have something worth posting I'll put it up.

Hey man, youre doing good so far :) Keep it up.
I understand that youre trying to get your digital rendering skills "up to snuff" (as my parents say haha), but you really have to perfect your basic visualizing skills first. Without a proper simple view of your face on the canvas first, rendering well is going to be much harder. Try to concentrate on getting your drawing of your face absolutely perfect before you start rendering. If I were you, I would take a break from the computer for a while and do the next bunch of SPs with pencil and paper, trying to get a proper outline and get the features properly placed and make sure you really understand the face youre looking at :), and then get to shading with the pencil.
Once you understand the forms of the face, it will be much easier to get a grayscale digital rendering..and then once youve gotten that down, then you can move on to the experimental blue/green faces haha
Keep up the good work man!
