Seems everyone is partying in their own way.

Anyways, I am definitly up for the Sketchcrawl this coming Saturday (Oct 14).
I will try to get the materials to the group this weekend. I will be giving out CD's instead.

I recommend downloading the tutorials on a very fast connection. (School, work) from Vertex Monkey

I was busy this Sunday helping my landlord de-weed our back yard.

So our next Sketchcrawl is this Saturday, we should do a little planning. I want to get a lot more sketching done this time, we should be sketching our way from location to location instead of walking and then sitting. Any suggestions for the general area though? Stanley Park? Kits area?

Raizor
October 9th, 2006, 09:29 PM
I second Stanley Park, weather permitting.

Secondary location: Coal Harbour/next to The Mill Bistro can walk to Stanley Park too.

Address: 1199 West Cordova St. (North foot of Bute, on the waterfront)

Third Location: ?

R'john
October 10th, 2006, 01:54 AM
hey guys,

for the third location, what do you think about the inside of a church. There's a cathedral on the corner of dunsmuir and richards...I'm sure they'd be ok with it,we'd just have to be respectful and not get loud or anything.

anyways,I'll be there at the meetings on saturday and sunday I think...lets get drawing...:blahblah:

just not the bad parts of gastown or hastings...if you guys go there,I just can't go there..to crazy for me...:dad:

Raizor
October 10th, 2006, 11:41 PM
The church sounds interesting. No nudes drarings. :(

As for East and West Hastings, I worked in those areas. It is not a good idea to go down there unless you are escorted by police, especially at late afternoon and night. Lots of needles, razors, condoms, urine, etc. Smells nasty too.

Any other suggestions for locations?

R'john
October 11th, 2006, 04:38 AM
maybe one month,we can go to the zoo or aquarium...or maybe if they have a cool exhibit,we can go to a museum. Also, what about north van? Just throwing ideas out there...

peace y'all:}

Raizor
October 12th, 2006, 12:19 AM
I won't be able to come. I'll be working late from Friday afternoon till early Saturday morning. It's the last day of FX shooting. Burn baby burn, hint, hint.

I will make it for Sunday morning. I was planning on telling a Production Assistant I work with, know about our group. He wants to learn oil painting.

My boss is also interested. Him and his wife are artists/musicains. He is a great guy, kinda like a hip grandpa. He may join us at a meeting if he can get away from work.

I will see you peeps on Sunday. I will try to bring a long the "tools". Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

IRjohn - North Van? It might be a good idea later on when we are a little more established as a group.

Bus service on Sunday might work against us, especially people from Langley and Delta.

North Van would have to be a Sketch Crawl event, with detailed trip plans. Bus fare, maps and bus routes, lunches, etc.

I like the museum idea. Or even the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Actually, why don't we meet at the VAG this Saturday? Then we can work our way down to English Bay and eat at that cool burger place on Denmen.

Sorry to hear that you can't make it this Sat, I'll see you on Sunday then.

Raizor
October 12th, 2006, 10:33 PM
Great news. I will be able to make it. I found out our call time is in the afternoon and we will be shooting for 6-8 hours and paid for 15.

What time should we meet up at the VAG? I want to do some drarings!

Call me if anything changes! Please.

Hey dudes,

if I can make it,I might be a bit late. I gotta go pick up a reserved copy of process recess (http://www.processrecess.com/)at the comicshop on west4th. I've been looking for a copy of this for so long, and I can't let this one get away from me. So maybe I'll be on time or an hour late. Fun times.

Perverted old man, R'john letting loose, finally :) , Raizor (Sunny letting loose and creeping people out, as usual).

Hope to see you peeps at Blenz on Sunday at 11am or 12 pm.

Bring Raingear and warm clothes please, as we may do location sketching. Chinatown?

Speaking of Chinatown, how about doing a Sketch Crawl there for the next session. R'john's recommended it.There is cheap food, and a art shop that sells Chinease paintbrushes.

Anyone who is not able to make it, will have to buy the group coffee next time they show up! Yes, this means Justin and Slyver. Kidding, maybe. ;)

but he was a nice guy. Did you notice he carried a gun? I just hope he isn't expecting us this saturday.:(
anyways,I had a great time again guys. I really enjoy hanging out with artists...

anyways justin, you have been missing too many meets. So,I called your boss to complain, and we agreed that you're fired...hehe,work hard man,it sounds like you got a cool job...just come to a meet when you got time.

Sylver, where were you dude? We were drinking hard on sunday,it was open bar at this one place. You should have been there:wink:
Same with you dude,no worries, just come when you can.

Julianna, haven't met you yet,but you're still welcome to hang out and draw with us anytime...

John, thanks man. Hope you're feeling better...

beckerda-hi,you're definitely welcome to join us.:confident
as for my views on vancouver...its not my favorite place, especially during winter...I'm sure berlin must be much more exciting...the summer here is nice though. it all depends on what you're into. I'm sure there are many who love vancouver,as for me,I'd rate vancouver a 7.4 out of 10. There is a krispy kreme within driving distance though...so if you love that, then vancover is great.;)

oh yeah, you guys that didn't come, missed the borsct lady. The happiest lady ever...

Not really sure when we will head to Chinatown for the Sketch Crawl. Maybe in another two weeks.

I personally would like to get a larger, consistant group going first, and then put together another crawl.

As for those who did not attend the Sketch Crawl and Sunday session, I bought the peeps food. Suckers. :) MMmmmmmm, goulash and baked potatoe.

Anyways, I went to help out my landlord with his business. Audiolab does testing at Vancouver Film Studios. Hehe. I was helping people with forms, so the technician could do the testing. I was at the Alien Versus Predator SPFX (Special Effects) workshop and at the third set that was under construction.

Sorry, I did not see any Aliens or Predators walking around. Just Teamsters and other not important people. I should of signed up for Production Assistant work but I heard that it was a SNAFU (Situtation Now All F**KED UP) at the studio. Not enough staff at all the departments.

Asahi - Thank goodness you posted.

I got the "goods". I will bring them next session. I don't have enough "goodies" to burn, so you may have to share. Justin won't need the "goodies". Only Asahi and 2100 will need to share the "goods".

Anyways, I got some great photos I will be adding to the "Vancouver Photo Reference" DVD I plan on making for us to use.

If you all have any pics, let me know, I would like to include them. I want to fill at least one DVD, however, I only want to burn Un-Edited photos. Please burn them to a CD/DVD and I will do the rest. It will take a while to amass the photos, but I want to start ASAP.

Yo dudes...and dudette...great meeting with all of you again. I had another great meet. Nice meeting you johnny, and glad you came sylver...good seeing you again. Sunny, thanks so much for your effort(water color paper,dvd,books,etc...),its greatly appreciated. It was cool drawing with you at timmy's with the silent fire alarm and all. Hehe. I'm gonna scan the drawing I did, tonight or tomorrow,or sometime this week...

Yo,lets start a new Vancouver Sketchbook. New thread for a new group...:rendered:

John and Sarah, hope you had fun at the canzine thing. If you got anything cool, maybe you could bring stuff to show at the next meet...

So when is the next sketchcrawl?

later everybody...

Raizor
October 22nd, 2006, 11:28 PM
No problem with letting you all experiment with the watercolor paper and goodies.

As for the silent fire alarm, that would of been better as you said, if someone on fire did run out of the kitchen, and that person was ignored, with all that chattering. I say we stick with the Timmy's at Alberni and Thurlow.

I'm up for a brand new Vancouver Sketchbook thread. Easier to maintain if one of us is the moderator.

>John and Sarah, hope you had fun at the canzine thing. If you got anything >cool, maybe you could bring stuff to show at the next meet...

Please let us know about the Canzine. Maybe Sara's boyfriend from Timmy's was there. ;)

As for the next Sketch Crawl. I say two weeks from now. November may not be a good month to do a lot of location sketching due to the weather getting colder.

See y'all next week.

"I am the agreeing with the yoo", said Raizor in his best Apu accent.

Justin, we all would like to come down to a session, but we understand work being a priority.

I just finished working on "Things We Lost In The Fire", so I haven't had a call back for Production Assistant work yet. I was tempted to work on Alien Vs. Predator, but I heard it was chaotic in all the departments.

As for the activities we are doing, it helps us all in general to strenghten and learn new skills.

Envelope art, and now we just finished sketching on Watercolor backgrounds I painted for fun. I miss playing with watercolors, I thought I would pass the work I did on the the other artist's to use a jumping board to sketch. Wait till you see R'John's sketch. Sweet, like apple pie and bunnies!

I got so much stuff I can show. It was wasted when I went to Art Institute of Vancouver.

If you have time Justin, come to the sessions. We can't keep picking on 2100, he's starting to develop a thick skin, (Raizor grabs camera and takes pictures of said skin, for the texture, woot).

We will be doing a Sketch Crawl soon, try to come, one and all.

Sunny your iron spikey shark is awesome, I love it! And that photo of sylver and I sitting on the stairs makes it seem like those two girls on the side are part of the group, well done!

The zine fest was fun, I was surrounded by things I don't have time to read and don't have money to buy, but it was great to see all these indie comic artists from Vancouver gathering and promoting their work. Upstairs there were big white things for you to paint on. We painted porings, "aka pork-buns," bunnies, a robot and ofcourses a series of circles and crosses! I wish I had proper photos to show you guys, but I don't know how to upload em off my phone.

After Canzine, I went for dinner with some old highschool pals. Ironically we went to calhoun's, haha. That place is amazing for not drawing, heh... There was a jazz band playing at the cafe tonight. I think around 9 musicians playing mostly kickass originals, as well as some unbelievable covers, including ofcourse miles davis...

I had such a great day today, the meet was fantastic as usual. Sunny, we're all so grateful to have you <3, let's take over the world. R'john, hope you feel better soon. JONNIO, glad you could make it today! We'll definitely go sketching sometime or just hang out! Jared, nice to see you again. I love your haircut, you look more masculin now :]. Sarah, my poring was definitely cuter, don't try to deny it~

Anyways, I'll see you all next weekend.

October 23rd, 2006, 04:12 AM
Thanks guys/gals.

It's a good thing you went to the Canzine, it sounded like a good event. I will have to go next time. Painting Porkbuns and Bunnies, I wish you had both painted the Firefighter putting out a fire with a sack of bunnies or done the bunny cannon of firefighting. Asahi would of probably went "awwwwww, I like this!."

2100 - I think we best keep our relationship professional, as my mom still expects me to give her grandchildren. :)

Calhoun's - was that the meeting place for the previous Vancouver Sketch group?

I am also working on the Vancouver Reference CD/DVD. I hope to at least have a DVD by next month.

I was wondering if your laptop would be able to handle some Sketch Sessions.

We could use Artweaver for sketching or Artrage to do some collabratative artwork.

We could possible share pictures too. We could also start making our own little tuts for everyone to share.

Just throwing this out there! I would also like to know if anyone else has a laptop they would be able to bring to the Sessions. It doesn't really have to be top of the line.

The best place to use laptops would have to be Waves. They have a lot more space for artist's.

hey sunny...bad news.
:$ Sorry to disappoint, but I can't bring the laptop to the meets. It needs to stay connected to my modem. I have a weird modem that stops working if you move it even a bit. Then it takes hours to get it in the right position to work again. A few times I couldn't get it to work for weeks. I guess I need a new one,but for the last few months its been working with no problems,so I don't want to take the chance of losing the connection again.

I'm so sorry about that dude...

Raizor
October 23rd, 2006, 11:06 PM
Is it that old? I would have to say it is a modem/wireless router problem.

Are you using dial-up or highspeed?

It's okay. We can do analogue artwork for the sessions. No biggie. I wanted to show some techniques in 3D.

No problem regarding the laptop. We can use a etch-a-sketch.

As for Shaw-lite, it is a bit slow. I used to have that.

Don't worry about the laptop. I will pick one up sometime, in the future. Then we could conquer the Blenz with all our mad hackerz skillz.

Anyways, I am playing with Artweaver, it is fun. It crashed while saving a custom brush, but other than that, it seems fine. It is a combination of Photoshop LE and Painter LE, but free.

This forum seems quite.

Let's make some noise.

Anyways, I posted a new model I did on the Sketchbook section.

http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1072841&posted=1#post1072841

I modelled the sucker, threw in a few textures, set up some lights and did a simple render.

As per Sunday, Justin, if you can make, come on down. We won't suplex or do any Hulk Hogan Leg Drops. Maybe a couple. Sarah will do the choke-slams, while her evil hippity-hops (bunnies) will cute you into a coma.

The sample head was free from another modeller. He just wanted people to play with it to see what they could do with displacement sculpting.

I plan on leaving around 10:00 am. I will make my first stop at Loomis, so if you want to meet up, let me know! It will be at the Terminal station aroun 10:45 am.

I will be also going to Waves to draw (next to Sophia Books, 450 West Hastings St) , as the table are nicer and the food is cheaper. The atmosphere is nicer too.

No problem. R'John, John and myself hung out with you today at Waves at least.

You did a sweet dragon sculpture that was detailed like crazy.

I didn't realize that you could sculpt like those guys who work for MacFarlane Toys.

It's too bad we couldn't get a picture of your sculpture on my camera, the cellphone pics didn't do it justice.

Thanks for stopping by today, Justin. It means you still care about the rest of the group.

As for our Saturday session, it was nice. Good to see that R'John is taking figure drawing classes at Basic Inquiry.

His style will improve. Now all he needs to draw are women and bunnies, maybe a combination of both, as that would border on Hentai/Furry art.

As for me, I picked up a new technique which I will be doing tommorow.

See ya all later, at Blenz at around 11 am - 1 pm.

If the group is larger, I say we head to Timmy's on Alberni and Thurlow.

You know, the asian guy that came in with you could have hung out with us too. Where did he go? Anyways,it was like old times again. As for my drawings,I will try to scan some stuff in tonight...Thanks for the watercolor pen sunny...I might go to loomis and pic up some watercolors or guache...and that big watercolor book...anyways,on a happier note...I got my blood test back and good news,I don't have hepatitis...liver is healthy...peace y'all:yayca:

As for the pee burning, I have that also. It does keep me alive. Cheaper than being hooked up to a machine in a hospital.

(It's like the scence from "Toxic Avenger" when he takes a bathroom break on a brick wall and it starts eating away at the bricks!)

(For those youngun's, go rent it from a movie store that keeps old 80's movies in stock, it is not for children under 15)

My birthame:

Sandy is acceptable. My uncle calls me that.

As for John and his homework, I will call his mom. That will solve everything.

Here some other examples:

Ham-and-Swiss-on Rai (pronounce "Rai" as "Rye") (That's one I made up, I got bored one day on the Skytrain)

SAND-DIP (Involves a hand gesture)

Feel free to make up others that are original. (There is no prize attached, unless you like STD's)

Nice day today.

Justin was with us in his ectoplasmatic form today. He visited us in his Cookie Ghost form.

He was tortured by John and Sarah. Seems he missed to many sketch sessions.

Then he tried to call his lawyer, but we managed to convince him not to sue us. We threatened to call the Ghostbusters. (I know, it was a lame joke).

As for the ghost ring in the picture, I believe that Sarah and Justin were trying to active their powers. ("Wonder Twin powers, Activate!") (Form of:?)

For those who don't know who the Wonder Twins are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Twins

Justin did a sweet chinese brush marker sketch in the sprite of Halloween. He is kicking ass with his sketchin skillz.

Sorry I had to head out a little early. Had to go to the doctors and then off to meet my bro's girlfriend.

We tried out that new sushi place on Denman. Really cool motif inside. I had kobe beef...$14 for meat the size of a deck of cards,a bunch of sashimi...tried raw shrimp for the first time...kinda weird...had some hot sake(not my kind of drink) and some other stuff...cool place, portions were a bit small though, but overall,it was a good experience.

I hope everyone had a good time at their various tasks today.

As for the sketch group session next week (Rememberance Day), November 12, R'John will not be with us. He is taking off to visit family. (Momma's boy) :)

I'm a mamma's boy too, so feel free to taunt me. ;)

Does anyone else plan on skipping this session?

If so, I would like to suggest that we hold a Sketch Session at Waves (45? West Hasting - Next to Sophia Books and Blenz). On Saturaday, November 11, 2006, if Waves is open.

I would also like to suggest that another idea.

If John and Sarah are swamped with homework from school, would you all like to meet in Saturaday's instead of Sunday's? It may help from burning out creatively or it may help with creativitey!

Please let me know A.S.A.P.

Nice work, I like it, 2100. Her style is nice and clean.

R'John-------------------------------------------------------------------

Creepy but funny East Indian Thriller video, I wish Peter Russell would do a remake!

As for Haley Berry, she is very good looking in person. I didn't get to drool on her, but I did see her quite a bit.

JonnyAwesome-----------------------------------------------------------

No problem on showing up, it seems it is getting busy for everyone these last few weeks. See you at the next one!

Welcome to the group. Hopefully we will see you at the next session!

Just look for a really small compact candy/mint tin at a 7/11 or other store.

Raizor
November 23rd, 2006, 02:00 AM
Yeah.

Where is everyone?

Are we dying as a group?

Anyways, I am getting Clustterforked at work. Wheee.

Clustterfork - Term orginally made up after witnessing a friend defend his fries and gravy with a fork. He proceeds to stab your knuckles and hand very hard with a fork or multiple forks. Sometimes knifes are involved. You eventually become a frie ninja after several months of training. Mister Miyagi (Karate Kid) would be proud.

I don't even have time to model, let alone sketch.

Sunny SMASH puny cars who ask for gas. (Rips off shirts, flexes vigoriusly, people are vomitting (or laughing or both), Sunny dies of hypothermia).

Anyways, who else is still around?

Damn, if I can't get the weekend off, I can only do a sketch session on Friday, even if I have to go alone. I might be able to do this Sunday. About 50% sure about availability.

I might not make Saturday, since I got a call from Superstore, saying they would like to set up a interview. I am tempted by their offer, but I can run on auto-pilot at PetroCanada, with two-three hours sleep.

So I will be at Waves this Saturday. I will be working 2 pm - 10 pm on Sunday, Nov 26.

As for Alien Vs Preadator 2, it might be better. I got to see one of the cars that will be destroyed in one of the scenes. I also get to talk to the Teamsters from the show when they come to gas up. They most likely shoot at Riverview Hospital in Coquitlam soon. It's aboot money, Fox is desperate.

I'm just a little scared of surrey though...I heard wally can get a bit scary...that's just what I heard...doesn't mean it's true though...I don't really know.

But if we don't go to waves man,we'll miss the scientologist and her views on Tom and Michael. Tom,I can understand,I'm not against him...but Michael, even though I feel sorry for how he grew up...I think he's crazy. But I still love the Thriller album...It's a classic...

I know, I like talking to the staff there too. I felt sorry for her when her boss yelled at her for trying to make the customers feel welcome.

I can go to Waves. I like the tea. MMMM, African Nector.

Along the Skytrain route, I would have to say Metrotown. It's in the middle and we have really easy access to resources.

Chapters, people, Staples,Futureshop, toystores.

Crystal Mall (with anime and manga).

Everyone else is welcome to join. (Hint, hint: Jared, Sarah and John, anyone else)

As for Micheal, I like the Thriller album too, he is still creepy otherwise.

Tom is crazy, I don't really like his movies, except Top Gun.

The best way,I think,is to meet me at stadium, then we'll walk up a block and take the 15 or 17,and it will take us pretty close to basic inquiry. You still coming? I think we should meet there by 9:30am at the most,as the session starts at 10am...I went tonight, and it was cool. I talked a bit with Daryl Mandryk and learned some tips from the awesome artist(and really nice guy too). Well,I'm off to eat,and then read some imaginefx, and then draw...then...zzzzzzzzzz.

We made sweet love. She was quite bossy, and scared me throught the whole ordeal. ;)

She said she wants to make love to the asian guy named R'john, also the fellow who looks like your co-worker (the dwarf/little person).

I will leave my place at 11:30 am, arrive at 12:30 pm at Blenz. If no is around by 1:00 pm, I am going straight for Waves. The leather chairs are a little easier on my hiney.

Waves Coffee Wireless (492 West Hastings, next to Sophia Books and Blenz).

Raizor
December 3rd, 2006, 11:12 PM
It was sweet. I learned and improved again.

As for our session today, Justin impressed R'John with a couple of magic tricks. It seems R'John was smitten and then Justin asked for a tip.

As for next week's World SketchCrawl, R'John and I would like to suggest Chinatown or a crawl involving old architecture around Vancouver.

This can change due to weather, which I believe will be wet and cold.

I plan on possibly going to Basic Inquiry on Sunday, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, if I have money. It will be gesture drawing, so Animators will benefit.

The session on Saturday is too early for me and I wasn't interested in drawing 30 minute poses. It bored me too much, due to my short attention span.

It was also a little noisey for my tastes but I love the room. It is so industrial and old.

Feedback for the World Sketch Crawl is needed ASAP. So please reply.

If it is myself and R'John from now on, for a while, we most likely with go sketch at Waves from now on.

R'john
December 3rd, 2006, 11:34 PM
Hey yo Sunny,

great meet as usual. Yeah,Justin did do a great trick. I really was amazed and had to tip. Luckily,I didn't have any bills on me,cuz I may have tipped Justin with those bills.

I was amazed cuz he threw the cards on the ground, and the only one facing up was my card. Man,go back and draw, your magic tricks are cool, but isn't your first love art? Anyways, then later,Justin and a guy wearing shorts, tried to save a bird that had flown in to blenz...it was kinda chaotic there for a moment...

Anyways, great meet, got some cool drawings done. Will do again next week.
Anybody else gonna come? Hope you guys can make it. Were getting some cool drawings in.

As for the program,I might install it tonight...I might...

Please check out the Revised Vancouver sketchbook.

If no one else is going to post, I will most likely start my own, possibly with R'john as my co-pilot.

I will be staying home, as I need to do some housework. I will be going on Saturday for the Sketchcrawl with R'John.

R'John, if you still want to attend the Basic Inquiry on Saturday or Sunday, let me know.

I will try to make it to the Basic Inquiry the following Sunday (Dec 17, 2005)

I need to apply for another job, I am about to strangle the people I work with.

Lazy asses at work toke up and piss off people who need gas. Goddam 4:20's.

They take so many breaks, I can't have one. I plan on going back to the movies, if I can. If not, I will try other places.

>got a pack of acrylics for about 3bucks...down from 50...thats awesome...it's >windsor and newton...I guess thats a decent brand...

A great brand. Always stick with name brand paints/watercolors. They are the best when it comes to consistancy and quality. Windsor & Newton was my first set of watercolors. I still have them.

>as anybody from the sketchcrawl contacted you?...

No one has. Oh well.

Do you want to cancel the Saturday instead of the Sunday, I can meet you for the Basic Inquiry from 2 - 5 pm on Sunday?

Rjohn, how did you get that deal dude?

Windsor and Newton are good i have heard, but i heard for oils. Also they are a student brand not a professional grade quality. But, if you are just startin with them they can be good...Nothing matters at this point, you paid 3 bucks for em!

hah!

As for OS X, I do not have any disc's with that software. I am sorry.

I don't want to. I can't stand the D&D crowd and fanboys. They don't bathe very often.

As for the Sketch Crawl, who is able to make it?

I need to know. I plan on taking either Saturday or Sunday off and some other artists from Sketchcrawl want to join.

I occasionally go on Saturdays to Waves, however we as a group meet on Sundays. It really depends on everyone's plans.

As for R'John, keep him away from microphones.
