Yo guys -
Good times as always. I agree with getting some themes going on during the week, and then picingone by sat. That way we could all bring in reference or books related to the theme.
Anyways - hoping to see more of you out this coming weekend - Sketch, I'm looking in your traiterous direction... ;)

Sorry I couldn't make it due to a business meeting... Didn't go as I planned either (It takes awhile to explain to some people why I don't want to be partners with them, and why constant blazing may affect their performance - LOL)

Anyways I like the group project idea - maybe we could think of something not too time-consuming but something we could actually publish or produce - it might even do good for the site. I don't want to get ahead of myself though, but what do you guys think? :blah:

goflamesgo - im loving the idea of putting our own world together. im definately in...I'd also like to see if people are willing to meet other than sundays....would be great for everyone i think. but i dont know how everyones schedule is like. maybe post here, and let all of us know. if its possble we could work out a little schedule for alternate meeting arangements (heck even at a persons house if so willing. drinking always goes well with drawing) :) :)

All the talk sounds great, i think a theme would be sweet. So lets start talking about one for next weekend, so like chris said, we can gather are refrences etc.. Also building are own world i don't know much of what this is about yet..

Ok,here are some suggestions for themes...

Vikings...
eskimos from far away ice planet...
intergalactic garbage man...
citizens of a different world or universe(example,postman,milkman,police,doctors... etc.)...
Ufo's...
some sort of environmental drawings(architecture,nature)...
animals here on earth that are still undiscovered...

thats all I can think of for now...

Also regarding MrFrost's post,can each person list which days they would like the meeting to be on,or which days you'd be free to meet? For me,I can pretty much meet on any day...After we get feedback from everybody,then the day that would be best for everybody is the day we meet...

Random environments might be cool to draw thins week. Most of us focus on characters, so it'd be a nice departure.

Hullo, conceptart.org. gentlemen (and ladies). Longtime lurker, no-time poster. Goflamesgo made it known over at the flight forums (http://www.boltcity.net/forum/) about your secret meetings. I never did get around to dropping by, which sucks for me.

Nevertheless, I'm taking part in enrico's (http://www.enricocasarosa.com/main.html) 1st Annual World-Wide sketchcrawl (http://www.sketchcrawl.com/), and since it's on a sunday, I thought maybe some of you ConceptArt.org regulars were going to be joining in.

Personally, I'm going to be at The Art Gallery steps (on Georgia, not Robson) at 10:00AM Sunday, the 21st. Hopefully some of my other arty-type friends are meeting me. From there, though, it's a free-for-all.

Then we're going to meet up at Subeez (corner of Robson & Homer) at 7:30pm. If you've never been there, the music is sometimes over-loud, but the garlic mayo fries kick ass and art geeks blend right in.

So... just throwing that out there. Sorry for the spamming. But since it's life-drawing the city, you could say it counts towards environment drawing...

Yeah man,it has been too long. This project was harder than I expected,but finally I finished(just a few minutes ago actually :dead: ). Sorry I don't post on here about whether or not I'm going to show up. I still haven't really made this website one of those sites that I check out regularly for some odd reason. But as a few of you have already told me, I'm pretty much the regular of the group, and you can expect me to be at Blenz every week (unless some unforseen even takes place and I get blown into the Pacific or something...WEEEEEEEEEEEEE).

Chris - Hey thanks man. I appreciate it. I feel a little weird just sitting there all the time just doodling nothing in particular and then watching all you's do your character design and whatnot. But I like sitting around talkin', doodling whatever comes to mind, and getting a compliment from you guys does mean a lot. I guess the next step for me is to start a small sketch project, instead of just doodlin'.

Anyhoo, lookin' at the calendar right now, I'll be able to make it on the the 5th and the 12th, and that'll be it for me until I come back in January. I'l going home to Ontario for x-mas on Friday Dec. 17th, and I don't have a flight ticket back yet (I guess I'll ask for one as a present), but yeah...that's still a while, so ......I'll be there the next two weeks.

I'm just offering my opinion,the way I would aproach designing. Like most people,I am still learning,so my advice may or may not be right. But I'll always happily give my opinion :confident .

I'll also be going to the VFS Campus later that day to do some capturing, and I was wondering...they have a postings board in the main hall, and they let just about anyone put something there (regardles, I remember it being routinely empty of anything interesting). Should we throw up some information regarding the sketchgroup? Maybe wrangle in some animation students?

As for theme, I've been on a desert kick lately, and I rented 'Hidalgo' and 'Lawrence of Arabia' last night...maybe some 'Dune' conceptuals?

The only thing with Subeez is that we would all have to spend more money. I'd normally be ok with this but seeing as how I'm moving soon I need to be a bit tight.

It should be a good place, and a good range/area for everyone. We don't want people not showing either because it is hard to get too.. This may happen...

So just some things to think about. I was thinking too, maybe the library, the vancouver library the really big one on broadway or w.e do they have lots of seating??

Subeez adds 15% to any bill of a party of eight or more, and the staff have a bit of an attitude.

Mind you, I'm getting this second hand, and we might all be young and hip enough not to get flak from the waitresses.

My favourite has got to be Honey's, across the street from Tinseltown and just a few blocks down from Waterfront station - and they've got a wicked large booth there with comfy seats.

I don't think the library would work. Normally you have to be pretty quiet and we're not. Wouldn't want to be. Although there would be plenty of reference material. But I think it's just to sterile. Samael, I agree with everything you said about Subeez. I don't see the waiters liking us. I'd say lets not advertise in the hallways of VFS yet. Or any other place where we might get tons and tons of people. Not until we figure out a bigger place that most people are happy with. We can still bring on people from the boards and our friends. So we can still grow but we just wouldn't be able to handle a huge spike in people. Not until we get rich and buy our own skyskraper... with our own Blendz. I'd let that guy hang any of his art in that one.

We just opened up one present each, here at my household, and my brother got me the DVD boxset of Neongenesis Evangelion. Awesome anime. Funny thing is, my parents were telling us to pick any VHS videos out of our huge library that we didn't want to get thrown out and to stick them into a box. I obviously chose the Evangelion tapes that I received as a gift from my friend in Japan, but looks like I can chuck them. Anyone want 4 tapes of Evangelion, Japanese audio, no subtitles? If anyone does, I'll bring em back for you in Jan. Just lemme know. It's free.

Ok guys this is it. I went downtown today, but i couldn't really find that soho place well, cause i am walking and, it was supposively so damn far away from where i was. So i found a different place. But it seems pretty good, i have pictures.

- Ok the place is called -- BLENZ COFFEE BLENZ

- It is located on the corner of Granville and Nelson street.

- The girl working there said it was cool if we come in there, if we buy a couple drinks or something, like cofee, pop, juice, muffins and shit, whatever you want...

They are open at 8am to 4 pm.

One of the reason's i chose this place was because there wasn't very many people in there. So lots more room for us. And there was tables close together, and fit 6 people on each. and there is 2 rows, therefore 12. Plus more scattered around. If we don't like it, we can always move somewhere else together.

If you are taking the bus and skytrain, how to get there on skytrain. When you get to Granville Skytrain station, when you are coming out of the skytrain station, take a left, and get on the otherside of the road, and walk all the way down the street, until you see BLENZ COFFEE BLENZ, and thats the place, it is really close to the skytrain station. It will be on your right side.

Man i hate buses and skytrain people soo much.. I haven't taken the bus since these gay new fairs. I got on the bus from my place, stuck in 2 bucks, then after, i look, he gave me a 150 concession fair, 3 zones. And i only had 2 toonies on me. Lol cause i thought it was 2 bucks for the three zones on weekends, which it was...But now its fuckin 225 stupid fuckin shit. And i didnt have an extra dollar lol. And everyone is a bastard and won't hand out money lol.. Soo i got screwed soo bad. for friggin like 50 cents short. So gayyy! I was coming, i was at scottroad station! haha then i had to leave cause didnt have enough, and those skytrain guys will fine your ass, if you dont show them you have a go card for concession, so overall, yeah this just sucked. Well i will be there next sunday.

Anyways, how was the meeting guys, who went etc?

It was good and productive today. I actually got some sketches done, thanks to Chris' crazy stories from San Fran. Today's attendees were Matt, myself, R'John, Chris and Orion. It was the usual, we blabbed about interesting but non-important stuff, movies, those fake tabloid papers, Natalie Portman (mmm), and even about you. Haha. We were wondering where you were since you were all gung-ho about coming today.
Then afterwards (around 4pm-ish), we all hit up the comic store for a few minutes, then parted our ways.

You know, I really am glad that I've met you guys because if I hadn't, then I'd be sitting at home on Sundays, wasting time doing something useless. Dunno how it is for you guys, but when you move to a huge city with absolute no friends, it gets quite depressing. Sundays are now pretty important to me now, as meeting up with you guys keeps me sane (and talking to real people, as opposed to the schizoids bumming around town). I was especially stoked when you guys told me how you guys were glad that the sketch group didn't solely consist of pro-artists, and how there's atleast one amature (That's ok! I don't mind that I'm not hardcore like you guys). Like I've said before, I'm there to get inspiration to keep up with my drawing/doodling, and to meet people.

And post are best work on the site, and have pics of the meetings and meeting times, and shit, and say maybe like a members clocker thingy. Like you log into your name or something, then click yes or no if your coming or someshit, i donno... Just have some cool stuff on it...???

Hey guys-
Yeah, Rjohn I'm down for talking about the website next time - I really want to kick this thing into a higher gear. We've got a good core group, but its about time we did more than absently sketch each week. I really think we need to use tis group as a venue for personal growth and improvement. I think we should do themes at least once a month, and try to get some more exposure going with a website.

That said, I don't know yet if I can make it this weekend (hahaha - how lame) but I will elt you guys know as soon as I do. It being valentine's and all... :bashful:

As for the thing with the group,I totally agree,we could do great things with this group. We could make a name for ourselves here on conceptart,and because of name recognition,it can lead us to great job opportunities. If we force ourselves to do a theme,at least once a month,we will definitely grow as artists. Maybe we could do a world building thing? I mentioned something about this before. This would keep us focused on something solid. What do you think guys?
Lets do it on the last week of every month? It could even be a collaborative process with certain pieces,like if I'd do a sketch of a vehicle,and justin,chris,etc. could color it. It'll be fun to see the outcome,and for sure,people would take notice...

As for the website,I was thinking,instead of a futuristic look(which alot of people go for nowadays)maybe we could go for a different look. I have an image in my head,but I can't describe it well enough. But,the important thing is...lets keep it simple...and maybe we could have pics and profiles,and contact info on one page...

Also, i was thinking, through the week, i donno for planning i guess, maybe get all the team members together on IRC have are on channel or w.e or just do it on msn and have everyone in one convo, and we can all chat away together about expanding the group, and how we are gonna do it etc... Pick a time, and we will do it then or something???

Oie! I thought I posted that I wouldn't be able to attend last weekend, sorry about that. I finally got a full time job...well, they are finally offering me full time hours at Cactus Club, and I'm starting training so I won't be able to attend tomorrow or the 27th. I'm not sure whether they're gonna put me on Sunday shifts at 10:30am on a regular basis, I guess I'll find out when they put up the next schedule on Friday.

So once again, I wont be able to atten tomorrow or Feb 27th. Sorry, but making cash is sorta a priority when I have all this free time.

Matt, if you lemme know when you're going to Calhouns and I'll see if my schedule works out.

R'John - Did I tell you my new rule about dating girls? I donno, if it will really change, how everything works, changing the day, it should be harder to meet through the week in my opinion, everyone works...and gets off work, and is lazy and shit... i donno..

But i cant really meet any other day besides sunday, or saturday...in the mornings. till w.e bleh..

Well, I certainly don't want the group to die out, but as summer approaches, and the weather improves, I am not going to be inclined to sit in blendz all afternoon, know what I'm sayin?

I think Matt/Sketch has the right idea - a weekday evening where we can chill out, chat and do some drawing, and not feel like we're missing out on a beautiful day.

This sketchgoup isn't dead! Shit, I leave town for a couple weekends and everyone starts to talk about the end. I am cool with doing the evening session.... or doing both. The only thing is Mondays and Tuesdays at Calhouns are live jazz night. So Wednesday would be good. Not sure... all I know is that this isn't dead :x

Hey Guys,

I can't make tonight, or Sunday, but I have been chatting with Rjohn, and I think setting it up as a wednesday night thing at calhouns is the way to go. I suggest we re-open this sketch group officially next week, and start doing our best to get friends and coworkers coming out.

I have talked to someone about webhosting, and we can get it for extremely, ridiculously cheap. Justin, thanks for looking into the web designer man, but honestly, I think we can whip up a simple 'go to page' on our own for the time being. I think something that introduces the sketchgroup, and profiles the core members would be an aweseom way for us all to get more exposure and raise the profile of the group.

What do you guys think?

About that website thing chris, making are own i mean, we should just get this website designer guy to do it, hes fast, and he can make a simple one, or a good one, and for free! :) He can build it how we tell him
