Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was an awesome rpg. The story, the design, the way things interacted. Yum. I just finished it and after playing such a cool game, I am having a hard time picking a PC game to play after it. It is a hard act to follow. Any suggestions? :) Thanks.

Baldur's Gate 2
Sure it is older... but it is much excellence in the same sort of style. You don't really need to play BG1 as everything you really need to know is explained in BG2. Plus BG1.... is surprisingly boring as all hell compared to the second one.
It would also be cheap considering it's age. As a testement to how good they are... they still sell Baldur's Gate II packs that come with the expansion in stores.

Thanks for the suggestion but would it be best to play the first one before the second one? *g* Might weaken the value of the first if the second one pwns it. ;) I don't care about graphics. Great story and design are priceless. I hate these games being produced now that are all eyecandy and no substance. =/

System Shock 2 (which is one of the best games ever made) or Deusx which is good but not as good as System Shock 2 :).

I've never even heard of System Shock 2, I heard of Deus Ex. I'll have to look into it. Thanks.

Heh, yeah if your looking for graphics... Baldurs Gate is not the place you are going to find it. It is a great story and great gameplay. But my reason for disliking the first one is not the story... but the gameplay. Nearly all of the quests in the game are trivial "fetch" or kill "x" monster. The other thing is that you never have any sense of accomplishment in the game. You are always feel weak throughout the whole game... IE. for how long a game it is... I want to feel like I got somewhere. The story is also not THAT great in the first one. But... perhaps reading up on the story if you get the second one is a good idea. I think it the second game adequately explains the events of the first game, but perhaps that is just because I PLAYED the first game (although I was quite bored with it).
But yes... the second game completely utterly owns the first game in terms of story and gameplay.

Ahh, yes. I remember hearing people complaining about Baldur's I for that. *nods* I'll definately check out Baldur's II. Thanks. =D

I only played Baldur's gate 2 and not 1. No problem following the story there. I think you should just go along with 2 (and its expansion pack, Throne of Baal).

*g* Two Votes for Baldur's Gate II, 1 for system shock 2. I'll check out Baldur's II first I guess and then get cracking with system shock 2 one's that done. Thanks. =D

WC3, such a blast.
HALO, pure friggn fun, story is great, the atmosphere and design are a 10
BG2, have heard awsome things.
You know what I want, a sweet, retro ww1 flighter with a little extra style that has an epic story with some cheese love sub plot, ex partner now turned to fly with the enemy, blah blah blah but just heavy on the visuals with more ammo than you could possibly ever use, or even the Red Baron Story, NICE

I love WC3. Halo is pretty fun, I played it over at my friend's one time on his xbox. We were slaughtering each other when we were on the same team... hehe.

Mmm... Vampires. I played Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption. I am looking forward to Bloodlines when it comes out. I saw a demo of it at the San Diego Comic Con last year, looks so goooood.
I also played Morrowind. I didn't get too far. I was playing a thief/assassin type. so, i was sneaking into people's houses and killing them. =B My character wasn't too interested in doing anything other then being a murderer. Muhaha. I dunno, the game just seemed too linear for me. *shrugs*
Carnifex
June 5th, 2004, 09:37 AM
too linear?morrowind?
you can do whatever you want in that game!i'm f.ex. playing a thief/assassin atm too, but at the same time, i'm solving murders!
and if i wanted i could change my whole lifestyle, become a wizard and get my own castle built because of my carreer.
i think i've never experienced so much freedom in a game.
you could go on for years exploring the country.
linear?pfff.
and about your character not being interested in something else-that's not quite it. you maybe weren't too interested in something else, but the character played has the freedom to do whatever he wants.

June 5th, 2004, 09:44 AM
I take my roleplaying seriously. Maybe if my character was a warrior/paladin/do gooder type there would be more for them to do like solve murders. An evil-doer just wants to do evil and cause havok in the world. They don't care nothing about doing good. =B It seems out of character for me for an assassin to want to solve murders unless the assassin wanted to pretend not to be an assassin or blame someone else for the murders he did. ;)
Carnifex
June 7th, 2004, 03:56 AM
well you can make him a paladin/good-doer/whatever then.that's the point.(ok you would maybe need to start with a new char)you can do with him whatever you want-even an assassin can become a good-doer if he murders the right people;)

FFVII ...
Remember the good old days when you said "KOTR" and it was clear you were talking about the ultra-long summon that everyone uses to beat the WEAPONs? :D

PLANESCAPE: TOURMENT = BEST COMPUTER RPG EVER!!!
Now thats simply my opinion, and i am heavily biased. But i would submit that if you liked kotr you would most likely like this game. I would say the top three computer rpg's are: planescape tourment, fallout(series), and kotr.
You can buy both Fallout1 & 2 and Planescape Tourment for like 20 bucks.

RH- Planescape is amazing. I LOVE it. <3 I haven't play fallout yet.
Ninjai- Ewww. EQ. :p I have a natural dislike toward MMORPGs, simply because they aren't real rpgs, since a MAJORITY (not all) people play themselves not their characters. So, they take things too personally that happen in game and mess up their lives over gaming. =/ I used to be a hardcore roleplay mudder (MUD= Multi-user dungeon. Text base game kinda like everquest but without pretty graphics) so I know the attraction but just gets boring without a story. Other people in EQ ruin a game like that for me, since they don't know how to roleplay. A dead art. :p

I've been playing CS the past week. Its so addicting. I had to delete it so I can move on with my life. There's nothing quite so satisfying as knowing you're causing some real anguish to other people and they can't do a damn thing about it....mmmmm
jelanen
June 10th, 2004, 02:59 AM
Jet - Yeah... some people get so... touchy about games. I don't like CS much due to how many people hack it. Besides, someone's stolen my cd code =/ so I can play on the network because the other person is online. I've been meaning to call the company about that. I have my original box and ups and all that stuff, so hopefully, I can get that fixed. =/

Hey you should trie DOD, aka Day of Defeat. Its a Half-Life mod and its WWII. Its in my opinion better than CS. Just the dynamics are more realistic, yet more fun. Moreover, the atmopshere tends to be a little better.

RH- I played DoD at a lan before awhile back. I am not very fond of realistic shooter games for some reason. I like unreal tournment or halo or something like that because it just isn't real. I think it is funny to take an indirect blow from a rocker launcher and to survive since it wouldn't happen in real life. Just...historical based games I don't particuliar care for, odd, huh?

if you want to have a real bloodfeast i recommend quake 3 arena-really.

Yeah BG2 is a kool game, I picked it up for around AU$30 a few months back. It ruled until I got Morrowind, but no, try ADOM (http://www.adom.de/adom/download.php3) it rules, and it's FREEEEEE!. If you don't want graphics you'll love it, its ASCII all the way! It stnds for Ancient Domains of Mystery btw.
"Download and try out one of the most detailed computer RPGs ever created (with hundreds of levels, randomly generated anew for each game, 200 combinations of races and classes, more than 600 items, 400 monsters, dozens of quests, skills and a lot more!)."

jelanen: EQ is just getting really old though. Back in the day, people would roleplay. Now its pretty rare. If EQ did have a story line, then people would be more inspired to roleplay. But EQ is just a heap of rare items and super-hard monsters. Maybe they will add a story line in EQ2. Who knows?

Iconoclast - No. =B I should finish ffvii one of these days. =O
Carnifex - I have found ut2004 to my liking. :p I never played quake 3 though. I should try it sometime. Sounds like fun. :p
Capt. Harlock- That's the MMORPG, right? When you play a hero? Would be interesting to see how the game ends up once they add the villian town expansion. Muhaha. Being a hero is no fun, being the bad guy is!!!
Ninjai - I don't like realistic shooters. =/ I heard AA is good though but not my thing. I like UT2004!
Waronmars- Morrowind pwns BGII? :p ADOM looks really awesome. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. =D I am an ex-mudder, ASCII is my friend.
AnarchyAo2- That's true EQ is getting old. I thought it sounded really cool when it first came out ages ago but I had a crappy pc and couldn't run it. =B and now it just.. sucks. Yes, all equipment hunting, kinda like Diablo 2 you have to pay for. I dunno if they'll add a story for EQ2. I just saw a trailer for it in the movie theater- it looks like it might be a good verse evil type deal. Personally, I am looking forward to see what Blizzard does with WoW. That mmorpg, might look like it is worth being called an rpg. =D

City of Heroes is fun as all hell. Best combat system in a MMO to date.
Just my opinion... but Morrowind was as boring as studying dirt thermodynamics. I could not for the life of me get interested in that game at all.

Toaster- I didn't like Morrowind either. :p It was fun going around and killing people for a short while cuz I was an assassin but wasn't too much for an evil doer to do. =/ I don't really care for MMO due to lack of roleplaying. :p

Stick with BioWare. The Neverwinter Nights series (original + 2 expansions) is absolutely amazing. When you are done, hope into the mod scene to develop or just try out community mod packs.
Much fun to be had! :chug:

Well it all depends on the type of roleplaying you want. As far as player involved roleplay (yes most of it is crap... but there is a good amount of well thought out stuff), there is a whole bunch of it. If you want to be a central figure in a storyline... then single player RPGs are for you. Of course... if you want to do evil... then you kind of have to wait for City of Villains.
Gonzo:
Eh. Neverwinter Nights made me cringe. Too much like the Diablo esque combat system... just with less clicking. In that combat system without the tactics and strategy of a multi person party such as KOTOR and BGI + II the fun of it dries up fast for me. Clicking and waiting for the monster to die just... well bores me.

Well, people didn't exactly roleplay in Anarchy Online, but we did get involved with the war though. Me and my brother were with omni-tek and the GM's set up a meeting between 2 guilds (1 omni-tek and another rebel) to come to a compromise to end the war. But my brother's omni-tek clan had smuggled weapons into the meeting and killed the rebels. He he he, omni-tek ruled. Oh yeah, I was a fixer and I summgled omni-tek medical suits into the rebel cities and resold them for 3 times the origional price. Stupid rebels. So in that sense, it is like roleplaying.

Call of Duty has to be the best FPS game I've ever played online. Being able to find someone by the sound of their gunfire is priceless. It's such an intense and realistic game. The single player is definatly worth going through as well.

BI and Bioware make the best of gaems, no doubt.
KotOR II should be out soon, not soon enough though.
