Hi all, my name's YJ.
I'm a senior in high school and this is my portfolio so far that I have been working on that I will submit to some schools like RISD, SVA, SAIC, SCAD, and RIT. I seriously appreciate any suggestions/comments/recommendations to how to make it more successful and appealing. Everything is in chronological order because I had no idea how else to order them ^^; Please critique and thank you for your time and thoughts! :lifedrawing: :yum:

I don't care for the piece "Alone" (it's too lose compared to the rest of your work- I'd leave it out), but the rest of the pieces seem like they are going to work wonderfully to get you into a good art school. It looks to me like you have great observation skills, and really solid drawing ability. Good luck!

Your stuff looks really good. Very accomplished.

However, I would say you have to try and include figurative work.

I know that art is not about that these days, and you should always look to find your style. But if you can do it, present to the teachers, they would love to know that you can do traditional work also.

Tip: Add a side sketch book, with quick drawings, I mean super fast. Of people on the street. Details in the city. Just walk around for one day and draw what you find interesting.

Hey, I'm a senior too. You definitely have a pretty consistent style throughout all your pieces. I disagree with J Wilson. I see "Alone" as a more abstract piece that adds variety. My least favorite is the last still life. The perspective isn't correct, the colors too saturated, and the values aren't right either. You might still include it because the bottom of the bowl is rendered nicely. I like that oil very much, and the charcoal and graphite still lifes are exceptional. The pastel is good too. I feel like pastel is a difficult medium. When you present your portfolio, make sure you order them by putting the best ones toward the beginning and the end. Mix them up a bit, instead of putting three black and white pieces in a row. Anyway, it looks good. Best of luck to you.
