Concept: Monolith Dragons

Despite their outwardly ferocious look, the Monolith Dragon is essentially a living statue, shunned by the higher dragon order. From birth the young gorge on rocks and moss within their cave habitat, gaining weight at an exponential rate. The weight becomes so substantial, their legs can no longer support their mass and they give out with an exasperated finality. From that point on they are condemned to a life of stoic immobility, growing larger and larger, completely incapable of defending themselves. Their bellowing cries of remorse reverberate throughout the caves, causing terror to passing travellers, and unwarranted aggression from travelling heroes. However the terror is often replaced with pity once the heroes discover they can not defend themselves. The monolith dragon are often found with swords and arrows strewn about their body like scars.

Concept: The Dweller
Literally blinded by their greed, this species of dragon have become isolated in the highest reaches of the mountains to protect their treasures.

Blind, their other sense natural improved with the years, and now they are able to smell their precious metals (gold, copper, silver) for miles although, their over-protective nature has lead them to stay relatively close by, which means no exploring. Upon settling this species metabolism has slowed, which is apparent in its massive size.

Although they still have wings, this species of dragons is no longer able to fly.

They use their keen sense of smell to identify intruders who are constantly trying to steal their stash of precious metals.

Concept: Forest-Dragon
The forest dragon eats everything that comes in its way, it wanders around in different forests always looking for things to eat, it can´t fly with its tiny wings, but it can hoover down from high cliffs and alike.
Leave the dragon alone and it might leave you alone aswell, but its hot temper and its sharp teeth makes it a pretty unexpectable creature.

Concept: Draconis Domesticus

description: In their efforts to breed smaller more manageable dragon familiars wizards created this sad mockery of dragon kind. As the new breeds got smaller and smaller they also lost out on metabolism and intelligence until they were fat and dumb. It is probably the greatest mercy to these creatures that they do not know that they were once the proud dragons flying overhead they gaze at with awe, their little tongues hanging out of their mouths.

Dragons got too fat to fly they started crawling around their bellies and started producing slime to help propel themselves forward and around. What has these once majestic creatures evolved to be!

Evolved to be so fat the they cant fly. They hide in caves and attack travelers; robbing them of the food and gold.

Concept: Gator-dragon
while most varieties of dragon were hunted to extinction centuries ago by valiant knights seeking the favor of fair maidens or intrepid adventurers seeking fame and fortune, this unusual breed has survived to the present day hiding in the swamps and marshes of the new world. too lazy and too fat to go hunting for food these barnacle encrusted behemoths instead float in the water with their mouths open for days at a time letting the water's current push small creatures and bits of plant-matter down their throats.

yeah same very very tough decision between jperol and dranyer
i had to go with Dranyer in the end. I had a quick color correction on jperol. I think if it was more like this i would have voted for yours!

Dranyer actually thought about the origins, enviroment, prey of the creature, the dragon's anatomy is unusual to fit the enviroment, that alone makes it much more interesting for me, and of course its a very nice painting

Same here, debating between jperols and Dranyer. I prefer the rendering style of the first but I think the concept and backstory is much more developed in Dranyer´s piece

I wish I could've participated this round, unfortunately I found out about this awesome topic only a couple of hours before it closed. I was also split between jPerols and Drayner. jPerols' image is much better looking in terms of value, thanks for Emerging for the color correction. Ultimately I loved the actual concept better by Drayner, the underwater scenes like this one always appeal to me.

Very good round by everyone really.

Dranyer by a nose! The personality and dirty swamp water are awesome
