painter 6 help

I have painter 6,but dont use it, cuz when I try and paint with my wacom, it won't respond until i make another stroke. IS this because of ram, or do i have a deffective painter 6.0 version? Does anyone have this prob.? I'm getting painter 7.0 soon. Is that one better?
