TUESDAY JUNE 21: Aaron Allport, Studio Art Director for Blitz Games Studios www.blitzgames.com
Where: TAD Online. Students-check your email for links.
Why: Because he is going to tell the story of his career, so you can see the path taken to become an industry leader and art director. He will also be shown select student work, answer some questions, and share a bunch of great stuff about Blitz.

Blitz is one of the largest independent game developers and is based in the UK. They create a variety of arcade, family, and hard core games. They have been a major client of Massive Black since 2006. Blitz has sold millions of games worldwide and was one of the companies that opened the door of the casual games industry.

As an artist who went on to grow companies, I have learned to appreciate the independent studios greatly, for they account for at least half of my clients. I also respect that most start no differently than if a group of you decided to form a company, or as I have done too. Companies like this create their own intellectual property and have it published. They employ managers, artists, designers, directors, illustrators, animators, coders, strategists and more. Blitz was smart and built their own tech base, and game engines. Independent studios who do this are able to make games for others in a competitive way, and that in turn supports the growth of their code base and the company goals too.

The variety of content artists are exposed to at independent developers like Blitz, as well as shorter development times, means needing skills that are flexible. It also means it is harder to get bored, being holed up on one project for five years or more as can happen on any successful MMO.

I hope all of you at TAD enjoy this, and you can also catch it On Demand!
