Hi guys! I've just moved down to London and am also going to the MADE symposium. I'd love to meet anyone else who's going beforehand though - Sleep, applecheeks, i'm looking at you guys :) Just texted ghostbrush to confirm if he's going too, and maybe we could have some sketchmeets?
Sounds great by me! I'm based in Cambridge so it's a little bit of a trek but not too bad. I'll be going into London on Thursday the 29th to do a workshop anyway. Is there anything going on in the evening that we could have a sketch meet at?

For the London people, especially DaveC, Brandon, Sukh, etc.. I just noticed that today the Mall Gallery will have RI members demonstrating their water colour skills. I thought this might be quite interesting because the Gallery is full to the brim with amazing water colour paintings. I'm currently debating on whether or not to leave work early to check this out. Unfortunately this is the only info I have:
Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours - Art Event Evening
Wed 28 April 2010, 5pm - 8pm
Members of the Institute will demonstrate their different watercolour techniques.
Admission £7 payable at the door (concessions £5, including FBA Friends)

for all who interested =)
( from underpaintings.blogspot.com )
Next month, Christie's Auction House, London is having an auction of Victorian & British Pictures Including Drawings & Watercolours. The sale looks amazing, with art created by such notables as Edward Seago, Sir George Clausen, Ford Maddox Brown, The Hon. John Collier, Sir Alfred James Munnings, Sir Edward Colely Burne-Jones, Frederic Lord Leighton, John William Godward, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Sir Edward John Poynter, John William Waterhouse, Herbert James Draper, Edmund Blair Leighton, Thomas Cooper Gotch, Sir John Lavery, James Tissot, Sir John Everett Millais, and Philip Alexius de László. To see such names in a sale with only 108 lots indicates what a strong offering this is, especially since several of the artists mentioned have multiple pieces in the auction.
The sale will take place at Christie's London facility at 8 King Street, St. James's, on June 16th. Previews run June 12th and 13th from 12 PM to 5 PM, June 14th from 9AM to 4:30 PM, and June 15th from 9 AM to 8PM.

No. The Mall Galleries sessions are usually on Fridays. They nominally start at 6pm, but in reality, people are setting up from 5.30pm onwards. Occasionally, Friday sessions are cancelled (depending on what else is happening in the Gallery), and so there are occasional Monday sessions, same times, to make up. You can have one session for free, but then further sessions are by annual subscription, paid up front, about £200 for the whole year, and on a sliding scale as the year progresses (renewals are payable in Dec/Jan), see http://www.mallgalleries.org.uk/index.php?pid=120&subid=2
Some of us have been meeting up in the sculpture gallery of the V&A about 2pm before going on the Mall Gallery. It's drifted in recent weeks, but if people are interested, some of us could do it more regularly again. Drawing from sculptures is good life-class practice.

Wow, Molly!!!!
Huge congratulations on the twins. We haven't talked for so long that I'm totally surprised by the news. :D
I'll get in touch shortly via email to find out how you're getting on.
Actually, my main purpose of this post was to let everyone know that the "mixed-reality" game I've been working on, 'Gbanga Famiglia', is finally available in the U.K. (as well as Germany, Switzerland, Poland and Austria). Worldwide release to follow shortly!
The game is free to download from www.gbanga.com for iPhone and Java-based phone like Sony Ericcson and Nokia. The more players we get to sign-up the better, so your support is much appreciated! :)
Many thanks in advance

Need to check in here more often-looks like I've missed a chicken or two....Up for more doodle outings in the summer. I was wandering the city (as in the square mile city) late the other night and there are myriad awesome locations for night doodles, and now that it's warm it'd be a great place to get some DS/Portable laptop sketches done. Will continue to dip my head in and keep up with events

Hey Uk people. Making a visit in here to tell you all that some of us think it's a good idea for a super meet sometime soon....
No dates and no place considered yet, but any ideas welcome. If anyone sees this and has something amazing to throw down, go for it. Seeing as it's already a bit into summer i'm suggesting the middle of september.
I'll stick this up on the facebook page as well, to see if there's any response.
Also, congrats Molly!!!!!!!

As a lazy Londoner I'm gonna throw in my big smoke vote. There are a bunch of awesome spots around here for sketching. If we get in before the sun decides it no longer wants to come play it might be nice to hit Regents park/Camden lock/the canals as they're all fairly well connected and have some pretty bits in each.

'The Wyeth Family: Three Generations of American Art'
9 June- 22 Aug
Dulwich Picture Gallery
http://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/exhibitions/now_on_show/the_wyeth_family.aspx
The gallery is just outside London, 13 mins train ride from London Bridge, or bus from Brixton, what else to say, its Wyeth spam! :D anyone interested in going as a group on one of the weekends?

I'm free all but the last week in August....could still do the July weekend if people wanted a mini-meet before one that may follow in August.
Think we met outside/inside the Huntarian last time and the migrated to Weatherspoons-perhaps the National portrait museum (right next to Trafalgar Square) could be a good call? Some sweet stuff in there and it's real easy to find. Alternatively the Crypt cafe opposite the Portrait gallery is a sweet little place where we could slowly gather people-real awesome archways in the basement of St Martin's in the Fields. It's a good space where a group could meet and not be bothered too much if we were hanging around for a bit.

How exactly do these work? Are there any requirements, any specific locations, or the likes? I'd love to see one of these happening, preferably around London as that would mean no ta-da-wasting-money :) However, if people decide it should be elsewhere in the UK, I'll consider --depending on the mood of Mr.MoneyPocket here.

July 26th, 2010, 04:44 PM
for the larger meets as in people who might travel in for it, basically a bunch of people from CA turn up, sketch, drink, sketch, drink, eat , sketch and that kind of thing. Usually meet at a gallery or museum and stay there to sketch for a while, If its nice out then maybe sit outside and sketch somewhere, and inevitably end up in nandos or somewhere to eat and sketch some more.
No requirements, it's very informal just like friends getting together kind of thing, and the opportunity to meet new people etc,
theres no specific schedule or events planned for these things, usually just played by ear depending on where people fancy going

If anyone's interested, there is a small meet of sorts on Friday 12pm onwards at the Dulwich Picture Gallery (in North Dulwich, trains from London Bridge or buses from Brixton) to see the Wyeth Family Exhibition.
How does this Sat sound for the big ol' London sketchmeet? taking into consideration people outside LDN who can only travel easily to/fro on saturdays
7th August 12pm meetup, then probably wander around central London throughout the day

Hey guys! This might be a bit off topic but I figured this thread would be the best place to ask this.
Does anyone know a good store in London where I might be able to try my hands on some large Wacom tablets?
I'm looking to upgrade from an A5 wide and am deliberating whether to go for the Intuos4 L or the XL. I've read through quite a lot of threads in the Wacom forum but figured the only way to be sure is to try them.

Hello UK Folk!
Hope your all well and enjoying your holidays or whatever your getting up to.
Question:
How many of you would be interested in TAD if it were to come to London?
Location poll thread here (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=194350)
6 of you have voted so far, but I am wondering, are there more of you? Have a look in the thread link above. Or reply here your thoughts...

Would attending TAD be basically the same thing as going back to uni? Or would it offer shorter workshops like an adult education class?

Bones, its a 30month course, and I think the only short courses are the online ones...
How is everyone today?... we havent had a thunderdome in a while....with ourselves or anyone else....

More ideas are welcome ofc

Yup! I'm down for the 25th. I agree that it got a little quiet after the last meet, but if people are interested, a few of us go life drawing at the Mall galleries on a regular basis- normally fridays or mondays. Look up the Hesketh Hubbard society.
Also, I'm down at the V&A, sketching, tomorrow if anyone else's down for that- Ghostbrush, I'm lookin at you boi!
What's the plan for the 25th?
Edit:
National Gallery sounds good, although it can get really crowded this time of year and on a saturday. I'm up for any other suggestions, but National Gallery is a good place to start. Last time we ended up at the Hunterian 20 mins before closing, but it would have been awesome to spend more time there. Maybe that could be another option! Also, any of the other Surgical museums would be a good place to sketch too.

September 13th, 2010, 06:22 AM
Wow, that life drawing is cheap as chips Belindi, how often do you go?
Looking forward to the 25th, I would also love to spend more time in the hunterian.
B-zilla
September 13th, 2010, 06:39 AM
It's cheap right? The only catch is that you have to pay for all sessions in advance til the end of the year. However, it works out really well and gives incentive to go to every session. It's normally once a week, but since there are a few breaks this month, it's going to be monday and friday for a weeks in October. I'm looking forward to 2 sessions a week though. The next session is the 24th if you want to come along for that.
tehmeh
September 13th, 2010, 06:41 AM
Yeah it's a bit less than that for a term's worth at the only life drawing close to me, I'll see you there on the 24th :)

Vatsel, tehmeh, Belindi:
I'm free for the 25th, National Gallery was super crowded month back last I went but it'd be interesting to see the Hunterian again.
I wont be able to make tomorrow for the V&A but I go to the Tate Britain on Wednesdays at around 2pm and then drop in at the LARA life drawing in the evening. Anyone's welcome to come along.

the only welsh users i was aware of were me ( im in Bristol now though ), Quicksilver and a guy called phill....i can't remember his user name though. Basically my point was that there were never sketch meets in wales that i was aware of, as there aren't many members, few that post anyway
I used to travel to bristol now and then for sketch meets, but those have pretty much stopped in Bristol, seems mostly London who meet up regularly as theres obviously a larger collection of members there

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or home as we call it, doesn't have a desert.
We are getting drier in some parts, e.g. the South East but nowhere as dry as a desert.
Hope that helps.
