Hey Molly I agree with you 110% about the kidnapped child thing. They are fussing over it too much now, its almost as if the parents are getting some kind of royaltie. How many other parents with lost, or dying children etc get to visit the pope... Its not like this is a new thing either.
One thing my mum always moans about is you hear these stories going on and on, then all of a sudden theres a big pause and you dont hear anything at all after that, not even a reminder.

.. One point though. I have noticed in South Africa that is someone is mugged, everyone always asks 'where were you, what on earth were you doing THERE alone at night' Even if its just down the road from your house. You are blamed for putting yourself in a situation where you could be mugged... but it is still someone elses fault for mugging you!!!
Same with the child... I dont condone leaving children alone left right and centre, but gimme a break, being a parent is hard work. I was left alone on occasion and I dont see my parents as bad. I really dont think that much blame should be put on 'bad parenting'... its still the fault of some sick bastard..NOT the parents. If we fear and fear and fear everything, our children will be stifled and miserable.
That said, I hope someone finds the guy and nails him by his knees to a wall.

yAdam: Yeah, Swindon's generally bad news, I was really glad to move out of it last year! :) Where do you live btw? I now live in a lovely small village called Ramsbury (it's a lot like the shire from LOTR!) which is about 20 minutes from Swindon...
Kim: Don't get me wrong, I don't think parents should be there every second, and you're absolutely right about it being the kidnappers fault, I just think, even ignoring kidnapping, leaving 3 kids-the eldest of which is almost 4 - unattended in a hotel in a foreign country for over an hour is a bad idea, there are just so many things that could go wrong.
PS, love the sultry girl in your sb mate! Very nice! :)

Lefran Yeah a North meet sounds cool. It would be far more accessible for us northeners and on the plus side, some of my mates who are also from preston and fello CAers, who iam sure would like to participate.

My mum'd fuck off to France for a fortnight at a time, leaving me, 11ish and my sister 13 or thereabouts to fend for ourselves. Family friends would pop over every couple of days to see how we were doing. That was back in the day when there wasn't this disproportianate fear of paedos we have today. When kids could play out, without their mums and dads fretting at home.
Northern meet interest seems to be gathering steam now. Quite a few "dude, I'm sooo there" attendees in the pipeline.

Anyhoo, back 'art' and all that. Theres a few Grad exhibits daaan Brick Lane this weekend, theres a Star Wars thing in the ExCel Center in a coupla weeks, and Adobe are having a thing at the Business Design Centre soon too. Dunno WHY Im telling yers, ya probly already know.... Oh, yeah, what crossed my mind was "Wouldnt it be cool if WE had a 'Digital Artists' show?" Like Koshime said, we dont need the CA banner to represent us. Theres PLENTY talent in here that we can get on board to submit work etc etc. I know we've spoken about this before, but the idea is STILL floating above our heads, and we should somehow reign it in and deal with it. I also just want a show because I've only ever been in ONE in my whole life, and that was in 1999...and it wasnt very good....infact it was crap.....
think about it guys:)
BTW - if you guys EVER get a broken tooth, or have an open cavity, go to the dentist NOW. I ignored it, and now I have a narsty infection in my...'jaw' and I'm on antibiotics and uber pain killers. Dont get me wrong, the pain killers are awesome....but the pain is excrutiating! Its like someones got an ice pick and ramming it into my ear every now and then....Suppose I shouldnt have left my tooth alone eh? eh? get it? eh? HAHAHAHAHA aaaaah nevermind :nohope:

So far im lucky I havent had anything like that, fillings or what not *touch wood* I cant imagine the pain, it sounds pretty nasty.
I did have somat wierd though, two of my bottom front baby teeth didnt have any adult teeth underneath so I had to have my baby teeth pulled out and my whole jaw moved to fill the gap where there should be teeth.

Try to get to grips with XHTML Fran, best thing i ever did(on the advice of a friend and programmer). Basics are easy but complex formatting takes a bit more thought. The code is the easy bit, css is where the design process comes in.
I use Dreamweaver but in the split view so i can code but see the results. First book i got was the visual quickstart guide to xhtml, great book. Since then it's got HEAVY!!!!
Good luck but i've met you and i think you'll get on just fine:)

Apologies if i didnt read your reply fully but Dreamweaver comes with an in built ftp function. You need that to dump stuff on your site.

If I get this job at tesco and manage to get enough hours in then ill definatley be saving up for Shanghai. Im not totally sure how much ill need to save up yet. So far ive seen flights between 500-700. I have no idea how much im gonna need on top of that though. Apparently the food is very cheap.
If anyone else is going then perhaps we should get the same flights? Im not too confident travelling on my own I gotta say.

Cant believed they be so gutsy to choose shanghai. T
he location is cheap for them, because their HQ is about. And a venue should be cheap - meaning the tuition fees should be reduced in theory
.
To be honest,
cant really see myself getting pscyed up for the trip because the flgiths are so expensive, and the tuition is the ultimate isnult to injury. My 2P
yAdam

Wooooot, finished my final major project!! ^____^ Just gotta prepare for the exhibition now, wheee~
As for the next workshop: It would probably be cool....I think it might have to come with a warning though as the culture and everything over there is much stricter and more reserved, but I dunno, but be a bit more lax in Shanghai as it's a big city. Doubt I'll go though - saving up for a MacBook Pro and will be starting uni soon afterwards so unless my mum's huge money tree starts actually growing cash as leaves, I defo can't go.

Im arranging a museum visit this week, and if you would like to join me, your more than welcome.
Monday 25th June 10am - Science Museum
&
Wednesday 27th June 10am - Hunterian Museum (http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/museums/) (Koshime, you should know about this place eh?)
The early start is to get some good sketching time in. The Science museum was recommended by TheBrave awhile back; The Hunterian will inspire your creative minds, theres some weird shit there apparently, great for character creating, I was told about it ages ago, just never got myself out the door to visit.
So, if your free those days, and would like to join me, please PM or text me(07932-907-779)

If you double-click the lineart layer you can unlock it and you'll be able to drag that layer on top of everything else and set that as multiply. This way you dont have to set your painting on multiply. Not sure what the difference is but you can put the painted layers on other settings this way.

The cheapest hotel I can find in the center (so far) is £45 a night at the Britania Sachas. I've never stayed, but I've heard it's decent.
Looking forward to meeting new folks and seeing people again! Take care!

summer Pud > I love the Narf. I lived there for 7 `ears before assimilation into Rondon. I especially love the profuse pollen of York as you scamper down the ancient battlements, the tens of thousands of sheep and walls, of the lovely walks around the Lake district as hordes of japanese tourist scream. Beatrix Potter! I especially love the good sized portions of roast and Yorkshire pudding up narf, giant sized sandwiches and dinner ladies of Yorkshire descent of similar proportions,
Not to mention Folk in Yorkshire are just good down to earth folk, with hearts as large in magnitude and caring. They say it as it is. Night life up Narf, is variably limited though, unless yo ulive in Liverpool, Leeds, manchester or Sheffield...the occasional cinema or pub can be your only option.
IN addition to the verdant beauty of the rugged peak District, a rock climbers haven, you could chance a lovely drive and walk about the caves in castleton, a hike around the disused train tracks in Buxton and Derby, visit the HQ of Rolls Rolyces in Derbyshire, or the stately homes of the gardens of Chatsworth...all accesible via the M1
Mind you, the wind and the rain can be a damper. If you happen to be a university Student in leeds and Sheffield, beer is cheap, student life is very social and very chilly at nights, but the girls up narf are game to wear skimp to non existent clothing to brave le night club.
Yes, life in the Narf is great.
Be prepared to walk alot (or failign which driving is always useful), and enjoy the great outdoors and if you're really game, head on Narf to the real North in edinburgh, cumbria and glasgow. They're a real treat on the eyes and wild rugged beauty

Hello everybody
I am an Illustration student from Bristol. I am friends with Badger, who I am sure many of you will be familiar with?
I have recently started reading conceptart.org, and I am really enjoying it. I'm not sure I'm retaining all the clever little tips I'm discovering, but it's certainly starting to make an impression on me and my practice.
I'm gonna subscribe to this thread and start butting into conversations where I'm not welcome. Hope you get used to me soon.

For those of you who are interested, please visit my ART BLOG (http://adamfosterfahy.blogspot.com/) to see a couple of bits of my work.
I have suddenly becasue very shameful of my older work (before I started fretting about colour saturation, complimentary colours and a whole hosts of other gems I have pucked up from concept art) so there are only a couple of bits on there. I'll be adding stuff to it as much as I can across this busy summer holiday, and then fairly regularly once I start back at uni.

I'm currently teaching transport design, so next week I'll be traveling between
1/ Brooklands International (http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.cfm) -Tuesday Am to PM - Admission 8 pounds. Learn from hands on WWII service crew and pilots about aviation history, where all the prototypes for racing motorsport and aviation legend was born. Concorde now lives in Brooklands and is being restored here.
2/ RAF London Museum, (http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/index.cfm) Hendon - Free admission from Thursday onwards:
From a total collection of well over two hundred aircraft, over a hundred full-size aircraft from all over the world are displayed under cover on the historic site of the original London Aerodrome. These include the legendary Spitfire and Lancaster Bomber.
3/ RAF Cottesmore (http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcottesmore/)- seeking Harrier afterburner liftoffs and F15s.: RAF Cottesmore is the core component of Joint Force Harrier, and is currently home to the Four operational Harrier Squadrons: 1(Fighter) Squadron, IV(Army Cooperation) Squadron 800 Naval Air Squadron and 801 Naval Air Squadron. The base is also home to 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron, Auxiliary Air Force.
to grab some decent first hand experience, and knowledge (field trips!) so I can help folk learn how to build functional engines and chassis for various transport designs.

OK, we're going to a gallery, the name of which escapes me, but meeting up in Dimitris, (a bar near Deansgate station) at 12 o'clock.
There's umpteen arty festivals and whatnot going on around the time, but nothing's really leaping out at me yet. Still keeping an eye on this though.
Deansgate station has about 500 exits, so I don't expect you to find Dimitris with ease. If you head in the direction of the Hilton (the massively tall hotel with Hilton on the side), you're on Deansgate, so is Dimitris.
If in doubt, give me a tinkle on 07817573280.

Molly dropped me a PM about the Manchester gathering...
I did say 'yes' earlier in't' year to this, and still might be able to do it. I'll double check wiv da missus to see if she's arranged a quick trip to the Bahamas without telling me. This may just be my preference, but I would have thought the Village might have been a better place to meet up. It's closer to Manchester City Art Gallery and also Piccadilly train station. However, I'm easy and don't want to stick my oar in when plans have been made.
I'll see if Mr Duddlebug is up for it too. How is the flooding affecting people? Buxton's the highest town in England, so I'm expecting house prices to soar(!) but even we get the odd flood.
Summer Pudding

I'm not sure how susceptible you are to flattery and sucking up, but it won't be the same without you and Duddle, etc. :)
Is Dixon aware of this also btw?
Pete
PS: I believe the gallery we'll be going to is the one you mentioned. Jon has the skinny on that. I've never been myself. Also, Dimitri's is only a ten minute wlk or so from the gallery, and its pretty much the only watering hole we're familiar with. :)

I, and I imagine some of the boys from Blade will be going to Mojo's. They play classic rock, indie, alternative (alternative to what? dunno). Open till 2ish. I can't speak for McCoy, but imagine he'll make an appearance there too. Before we go there, we'll be at Dimitri's taverna.

Congrats on the job!! I was going to try for the UI/HUD designer job there but have decided to stay at 2Kgames for the time being until I get my portfolio more up to scratch..what are you going to be going there? I know they had a lot of new positions going! It's based near Horsham isn't it, their offices? Should be an okay commute from Brighton anyway!!

Hey Fellas...
I'm gonna see what i can do about meeting y'all on Saturday. My wife was due and op yesterday, but it's been put back a week so i don't have to do the Florence Nightingale until next week!
I can't make Friday, because i've got shedloads of work to do, and we're going to Wales on Saturday, so that me and Jane can go for a meal while 'Nanny Wales' babysits Daisy.
This is a really really rare occurrence and we wanna go out before Jane's op and a few weeks or so recovering and stuck at home, so it may stop me turning up, but i'm hoping i can persuade Jane to do some shopping in Manchester or summfink on Saturday...?
It'd be nice to meet y'all so i'll try and sort something out!!
EDiT: I've just spotted the Dmitri's bit at 12pm. Yum Yum! I LOVE Dmitri's... But what time do you reckon you'll be at the gallery, Pudd?

Johnny, I suggested the midday rendevous at Dimitri's cos its dead easy to find once you get to Deansgate station. I don't think we'll be getting bladdered there, and crawling to the gallery just as its shutting or anything. :)
Prob wait half an hour there for the tardies, sink a half, and head to the gallery en mass.
If anyone thinks they can't make the 12 o'clock rendevous, here's directions to the gallery.

hello, hello from the other side of the ocean and hope to see your faces... it will comfort me... Such a wonderful company in such a desirable place of meeting...

Hi all! it's getting close now, n` looking forward to it :).
Yes the city art gallery is a fine gallery. Theres a big section of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, and plenty more other goodies. Except the recent Kylie Minogue exhibition didn't really float my boat.
I've just heard about a bar called "Cloud23" on the new hilton hotel (It's the one that looks like a massive stick of ram coming out of Manchester center) Yes he said there are some excellent views from there and free to get in, all though pricey drinks.
http://www.hilton.co.uk/property/1201_Restaurant.jsp?vid=11614255&hid=11536699
Gotta be a better views that the so called "Manchester Eye":nohope:
Ahh what else is there...
The town hall is always worth a view, and archetypal gothic castle in centre of Manchester. Dark corridors and ornate spiral staircases galore, and ofcorse the standard vampire baron mayor boss somewhere on the upper levels.
Theres the Powerhall at the museum of science and industry, that't right POWERhall. Hundreds of old oily steam-engines in a huge shed, ticking and spinning and whirring away.
There could be a german festival outside the Manchester Town hall, complete with Lederhosen, frankfurters and bavarian music. It's seems to be there for half the year.
And there all free!!
Yea theres plenty of options, too much for one day really, but see where the day takes us.
Look forward to seeing you all.

My word, the Manchester meet's finally happening? Lordy, that's good to hear!
Haven't heard from you lot much for a while now. OK, so I haven't exactly been bugging you either I suppose.
So right now I'm off making some cash cause the moolah ran out about six months in. I'm working for a company you've heard of (starts with a G, probably has a window next to the location bar on your browser) but only plan to do it for a few months so I can get back into it full time afterwards.
Have to say that with the definite exception of the Brat, I'd love to have had a few more of me old Blighty crew around these parts. On that note, btw, keep a sharp eye out on the thread if you're inclined.
And if any of you lot ever make it over here, you're sodding obliged to take me out and get me drunk. You wouldn't believe how different life over here is.
Miss you all *sniff*

If anyone is living in london/Cambridgeshire.
Tommorow, there is a brilliant air show ,commemorating the 10th anniversary of the American Air museum at the IWM Duxworth, J10 off M11 Cambridgeshire.
Today, I had the fortune of seeing up close some lovely american vintage warbirds arrive from overseas just as the mueseum was closing. Saw a B21- Liberator (nickenamed Sally B) taxi in from the open skies, followed by a feisty Spitfire that roared past at low altitude (what a roar and sound. that engine is pure lurve) only to taxi to the crowd and as the antique headgear came off, long golden tresses revealed a comely female pilot. pheweeet! and a antique Yellow Tiger moth that followed in tow.
Meanwhile, some old Bi panes took off and performed some basic circular manouvres.
Its great to go on the day before an event, as there are less crowds and more photo opportunities!

Mornin' folks...
'twas good to meet y'all on Saturday, even if i was a little confused with names. I hadn't realised that badger wasn't actually a badger. And Daisy was very disappointed that Summer Pudding wasn't actually a Summer Pudding (it's her favourite dessert). But i found you both more chatty than actual badgers or actual summer puddings (even summer puddings with hangovers) so that was good.
Sorry i had to disappear off to Wales a bit early! (And that i was encumbered by my ladieeez!)
It'd be good to try and do something again, and maybe get some doodlin' in....

Hanging around this thread, waiting for more faces and I hope to have a look at Manchester too.. I looove photos and I'm Anglomaniac and I extrememly enjoy sharply appearing individualism in you, people. That's what I appreciate the most in your country and you... it is a wider term than you probably think. You don't even know how distinguished from the rest of the world you are from your posts and photos. I believe that's something in the air or English grass... or cruel and bright history of your country... There is some mix of skepticism, tolerance, passion and good manners in your different personalities it's salty and spicy but never pale... Wonderful soup. I'm saying this absolutely seriously. You are extremely introverted and reserved in one and passionate and open in another.
I'm happy to hear that it was a great meeting.

Ahhh, Tie,,, thank you so much... you remind me something Brazilian, that must be your hair :). Odd, eh? who is normal, my dear? Keep I my mouth shot you wouldn't have known about your own peculiar specifics... Remember the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen? Snow Queen?... I very often do.
Snow Queen said to little enchanted boy, Kai... " that if he could place the pieces of ice so that they spelled that word <eternity>, then he would be his own master and she would give him the whole world and a new pair of skates; but, however much he tried, he couldn't do it."
I interpret it as we need to understand who we are, what our essence is and why we are the way we are... and we realize this the most when we see ourselves in encounters with other people...
I saw cameras in Pete's and Molly's hands and Kian promised more photos... I know he promised not to me but... :)...That makes me going.

Gnoll, buddy,,, I found this page about tube in London... it opens and closes differently in different stations... but in average they close from 12 to 1 am and open in about 5 am.
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/1129.aspx
I recommend the long bus tour (there is a short one too) through all historical London... It's about 3 hours. I saw people playing cricket on the other side of Parliament buildings while sitting on the bus :x... I have the most pleasant memories about it.
I recommend Yorkshire pudding in two incarnations: with ice cream and next day with beef and gravy inside it... I recommend Irish steak and mushrooms pie as well. They are unforgettable dishes...
Think about me when you bite it, I will be biting in the same time with you :).
Warhead, thank you, yeah, it is happiness :). in the faces especially.

Hey Gnoll.....
The tube shuts around 1am on weekdays and a bit later on weekends, but the last train is usually around 12.15am so you 'have' to catch that one if you don't want a taxi or late night bus... there is a lot of engineering work going on at the moment so a lot of lines close at weekends and the Victoria Line closes early on weekdays at the moment. Check Sve's post for more info.....
Koshime, Sketchling and I usually meet up once in a while.. we'll see if we can set somethin up for the Londoners though I'm super busy with my Masters at the moment....

....I thought you were just testing your camera? ;o; I look like a doofus in the second one, lol
Another meeteroo, eh? What days will people be free, generally?
TheGnoll: Don't worry, you weren't being ignored! I think Hurri's in the UK now, and fooxoo will be following around the time you'll be here, so we could arrange something then. :)

thanks :)
uhm...guess our evenings will have to be shorter that usual...but me n my friends could always find a place nearby...
@sve, thanks for the link, and the info. Its not the first time i go to ENgland, but its my first stay in London (since this year i used to stay in that god-forsaken place called Maidenhead n just go up to London for the day) so i already had the pleasure to taste yorkshire pudding, home made too...but my fav definately remains pub food.No way you can find ANYTHING like the bacon, baked beans, gammon steak and sausages you find in a pub here in italy.I just love that kind of stuff.
@WARHEAD:thanks for the info.Lookin' forawrd to seeing you people.
@Quicksilver: yay! that would be cool indeed.
I'm leaving thursday, but i'll try n keep in touch from the hostel or something :)
ciao

Unmade bed's layers are much better than onion's :). It means you have some thinner spots... sort of Achilles heel, you know, in a good sense... better for me... I can reach you and enjoy nectar of your soul :).
hehe, you see I know something about food, you should venture ice cream Yorkshire's pudding :).
Pete... I suspect you asked people to make poses and made blank shots... Sharing is caring, my friend.
Gnoll... I think you should write food reviews in respectable magazines... You sold those fried beans to me.

aph - I pop to the Hunterian on spare days; I've got a separate sketchbook dedicated to the gnarly beings adorning the shelfs there .... I'll may well be back over there next week, I miss it....
A Bristol meet some time would be good;
A random London meet with London peeps would be good....
A workshop day would be nice too; I miss life drawing. Theres a studio in Brixton which charges £18 per day. All we need is a model and equipment...

I've found a new theme for the UK thread that leaves that Rocky IV music in the shade. Great scene from a great movie, and probably the best 'things can only get better' type montage in movie history. Push it to the limit people!

I hope your not some kind of Vampire sve :P
Oooh ooh, a Brizzle meet would be fab! It'll be easier for me if its after Ive moved in there though, which will probs be around the 7th of sept I think. If I am allowed to have a guest then Ill put someone up for the night, that is if there is any room at all. I'm presuming these student dorms barley hold a guinee pig let alone One bald Neanderthal.

Aren't we all to some degree? :). I'll be fair, give some in return :). Someone needs to taste the nectar or it will go sour :).
