The last sketchgroup was awesome... it was so nice to meet all of you!
Okay, the 10th of june sounds like a plan... this time we need to kick Pablo's and Eric's butt to join us!
Weekends are far better than weekdays for most people. And if you still wanna have one during the week than you're free do have one as well. But the one in the weekend with all the really cool people will be held as well. :)

I'm not promising. The last time i really wanted to come, but due to something unexpected i couldn't make it. I'll try to make it to the next dutch drawing session... thing is i'm still trying to graduate (1 year late already, ouch), so that really stresses me out. Cos i usually work 4 days a week, for the moment 3 days, i really have to invest in this schoolcrap.
Are any of you going to Stripdagen Haarlem (http://www.stripdagenhaarlem.nl/)? Ik sta bij een standje flyertjes uit te delen, dus kom 's wat zwaaien terwijl je coole comics scoort! :^^: Ik maak stripjessssss..... ofzo (werk bij uitgeverij gespecialiseerd in graphic novels).

Well, the plan is that we're going to be getting ourselves at least a couple of beers at my place, tolsteegsingel 53(googlemaps or something), which is through town, along the oudegracht and through the twijnstraat, i live near 'het ledig erf' which holds a couple of bars and terasses near nature if it really gets too crowded, which is pretty unlikely (my room can support i think up to 12 - 14 people) there will be a crate of beer waiting so, i suggest we at least finish of that, and there's a AH nearby.
so in short, the plan is to draw a lot for as long as you like untill about i guess 12 -ish, which is partytime for those who desire to run rampant in utrecht.

heh, i love how we walked around for half an hour, trying to find some place that had light- all the while passing lightpost after light post, plaza after plaza, and then finally ending up in a doorway of a post office. with 19 people, sharing a single fluorescent lightbulb. oh- and the ambiance of a cover band, playing 70's and 80's music at ungodly volumes- i'm glad i know basic NATO and American sign language- otherwise i wouldn't have been able to speak to my girlfriend who was sitting right next to me.

I enjoyed the sketchgroup, although I agree we should plan things out a bit better next time. Just pinpointing the places to eat and drink in advance would help. Also I suggest starting off earlier.
I'm sure like many of you, Phil Hale opened new doors for me. (good call to bring that little book Damian;)) In all, I'm left just as amazed by the quality of his work, as the tremendous influence he injected on a global scale. I'm not sure if I can look at a Marko or Foster in quiet the same way now. Funny how some artist jigsaws can complete the puzzle. Norman Rockwell, Egon shiele, and Now Phil Hale...
Peace,

Hiya guys, kinda OT but I think this should be very interesting for you guys.
The course Communication & Multimedia Design at the Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden is organizing a two days multimedia festival in Leeuwarden on the 28th and 29th of june.
This festival will feature game art and design and there will be a few guest speakers who are working in this field.
One of the confirmed speakers/lecturers is Daniel Dociu (www.tinfoilgames.com), a very experienced and talented art director and concept artist from the US who's currently working for Arena net (Guild Wars) for those who don't him. Daniel told us he will also bring along his son who also has a lot of experience in this field according to Daniel (I'm assuming it's Horia Dociu, a member of the GW team aswell, not exactly sure cause he didn't specify that yet)
Most likely this will be on the 28th of june, no specific time yet.
Entry fees will be 5 euro.
Basicly I'm trying to get an estimation on how many visitors to expect.
There will be room for about a 100 people, hopefully more.
So maybe it would be best if you PM me if you would like to come because I don't want this to stand in the way of the current sketch meeting appointments.
There won't be a list with visitors as far as I know, everyone is more than welcome to come, I just need a rough estimation on the numbers of people.
More details will follow soon.

If the weather is bad (40% chance on sun and 40% chance on rain, max 20c' min 10c') we can go to "de Balie" near LeidschePlein. It's has enough space and is very light... no cheap beers I'm afraid.

I got the day off, so I'll be there.. Will go to the Waterlooplein beforehands I think.
I won't stay on the boat with you guys for very long though.. My boyfriend and I arranged that he's going to shop with a girly friend of his in Amsterdam, and we'll go back to Meppel (where he lives) at approximately 17.00 u or something? (we have to talk that over tonight). I know it's kind of short, but I think it's good. I'm scared to meet all of you people I never met before (except for Ramon) anyways, so it's kind of good that I'm not staying for very long mebbe.
Wow.. How do I type so much?
Love,
Marleen

But erhmm, if you're traveling by train, and you're planning to leave after 18.00 u and your train ticket would cost more than 4,75... Then you can buy train tickets at Kruidvat.. It's a really good deal; you get two train tickets for €9,50 and you can use them only after 18.00 u.
I already bought 4 enveloppes (= 8 tickets), but I'm going to use 4 this weekend so maybe I should buy more.
I'll be leaving you at about 18.00 u.
Is the houseboat far away from the train station?

i woke up this morning with a sore asshole. Jain... what happened?
Geertje and i are planning a sg meeting in Aartswoud- map.com where aartswoud is, bitches- your guess is as good as mine. all i can say is it's about 2 million miles east of Massachusetts.
there are a few elements at play here- the chance of relaying an invitation to one of the higher-echelon pros, the factor of having a minimum # of people to not lose $, and a maximum- for the sake of comfort.
it's possible to ferry 6 people at a time from the train station/bus station to our house, but doing this all day will eat up gas as well.
so- Aartswoud SG Meeting- further details will come soon.
ciao.

That's exactly what me and some other guys trying to acomplish overhere.
Our school (NHL in Leeuwarden, multimedia course) wants game design and development to be one of the major subjects within the course and they wanted to organize workshops with industry pro's so we started to set up a plan, talked to a few cool people and even visited the Gnomon school in Hollywood during the first Gnomom live workshops to make contacts and see how they do it (and of course on a personal level learn from the pro's, get our portfolios viewed and check out the cool city of LA :D ).
Anyway we were right in the middle of setting up this first workshop when we ran into difficulties (I won't go into detail, but there was a lot of miscommunication) so things didn't work out then. Somehow we did manage to schedule some lectures in during the Exposure multimedia festival which I posted about earlier and we have the amazing concept artist Daniel Dociu as a guest speaker.
Right now we are planning for new workshops which should start in september. We already have a cool location and a few people who already said they were more than happy to participate (I'm not going to give names yet, too early for that, but I can say they are well known on this board and in the concept art world).
It would be cool if some of you guys want to help out to make this happen, maybe make some suggestions or maybe if you are like a HKU student or something our schools could team up to get this thing going, just trowing in some thoughts here.
And to remind you all again: this wednesday in Crystallic Leeuwarden starts Exposure Festival with at 10:15 the kick off with Daniel Dociu (www.tinfoilgames.com), for more info and map/directions check out: www.exposure-festival.nl . Hope to meet some of you there :teeth:

sorry ff nederlands
edit 2: I'm coming from Zoetermeer or Utrecht Demian, and I bring my own car, so I can prolly ferry some people as well.

Rudeone and Duq, you guys have very cool ideas!
I always wanted to start an independent concept-art studio. Something like Massive Black but than more for the Dutch and European market. Since I'm lacking the finance and enough industry experience I have keep the dream on hold.
Though, I do think that it would be cool to start an alliance of Dutch and Netherlands-based concept/ illustration artists. I've already claimed the domain www.illuminent.nl for the project. I do think however that it would be something that is open for everyone but especially for people that are already in the industry. It will be a portal for information and work. I think it's really important to create a bit of a community in the Netherlands, this way company's know where we are! If you think you can help me out with this let me know!

That's really the reason why I restarded the sketchgroup (more then a yr ago now), to bring all those artists, professionnel and aspiring amateurs alike together to learn, work and laugh (and drink) together. I'm very happy that's it's picking up so fast and so big now. It seems multiple people are having the same ideas seperate from eachother -- getting a workshop / art group / etc together in the Netherlands.
I'll contact the people I know, if others do the same -- everyone knows everyone via a few steps, so our network is huge.

Leeuwarden ah yeah that would have been a nice festival...... IF I DID NOT LOSE MY DAMEND WALLET IN THE BLEEPIN BUS FROM ALKMAAR TO HARLINGEN. And there I was now OV no phone no money ......... and then I was of to find a police department to make a report that i lost my wallet or that igot stolen. And after an hour I finally found one after being called Ozzy Osbourne by a couple of homeless guys....... And then I had to get back to Alkmaar becasue getting to the lectures without an OV iwas not a smart Idea... Luckily after smoothtalking the busdriver I got a chance to get back home (and getting a fine from the train guy). Without my damned wallet. And then a woman called who found my wallet. And her name was.... and I'm not kidding here...... Ms. Luck (mevrouw geluk). So I had a talk with luck, and well I got my wallet back. But no Leeuwarden was nice.... but I rather followed the lectures..... ah well better luck next time......

Hi everyone,
Its been a while since you all heared from us, but we now have a better overview on things.
Demian and I would like to invite you to a sketchmeeting at our place. We're planning on a meet from a saturday to sunday, since its quite a long distance for most people. The cheapest and fastest way to get here is by carpooling. For people who take the train, we will be able to pick up 6 persons at a time from the nearest trainstation (heerhugowaard). Tell us what you will do.
For the meeting itself, we will take care of everything needed for a nice day. including a barbeque and breakfast on sundays, together with drinks. Vegetarians, please notice in advance. We are quite able to make a great bbq for you as well.
Since the hot weather lately, we have been busy setting up a pool in the backyard. (4,60m diameter, at 1,50m depth). So you all will be able to cool down on a hot day! (dont forget the bathingsuits)
We are counting on an aproximate cost of 10-20 euros per person, depending on how many people show up as well as costs for models (we're busy on trying to schedule one or two)
Everyone can sleep over. Depending on the amount of people showing up, some might need to sleep in tents. A sleepingbag and (air)matress will be needed for everyone.
The date for now is set to 12/13th August
If you want to know more, you can contact us through msn,
Okay, enough talking! Who's up for the meet ?!

Reminder- you will be sleeping outside, more than likely.
bring with you:
Tent
Sleeping Bag
Change of Clothes
Swimming Suit
15 Euros (food, drink, gas for transportation. may change to 10 or even 5, so bring in small bills, if possible.)
We are scrambling to get ahold of models. We tried to get ahold of a horse&rider model, so y'alls could sketch gestures of horses.
there is a nearby pasture with many cows, and sheep- it's a short walk. good place for a big group to sit and observe animals. could do some sketching there.
Another note: try to find yourself a portable chair- fold-up if possible. we have a lot of seating available for people in the gardens/backyard, but if we're going to be out in the field doing 'sniper sketches' (sketching people unawares from a distance), this may be a necessity.
Ok- to recap.
There is plenty, absolutely plenty of space for at least 10 3 person tents. More than enough sitting room for everyone. More than enough chairs. We have nearly an acre of land to ourselves, and I've been busy clearing some parts of it, as well as Geertje's father. It's big enough.
The only foreseeable issues i can predict is car space. if everyone brings tents and sleeping bags, we may not be able to fit everyone in the car.
The plan:
1. Hyver hosts the Brussels workshop.
2. After the workshop, there will be some spillover people- this is the camping trip group. The camp site is our back yard.
3a. The camping group will leave Hyver's house and head for Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, the group will rendezvous with Geertje or myself and be driven to said camp site.
// CONTINGENCY PLAN B
3b. If the group is more than 4 people with backpacks and tents and equipment, they shall head towards Heerhugowaard, where they will be ferried to said campsite in sets of two or three.
4. Each participant will provide a designated amount of money, at which time groceries will be purchased with said money. initial refreshments such as snacks and drinks will be provided to hold them over until the groceries are purchased and the food is prepared.
5. We will all engage in a barbeque, and see how the rest of the week goes.
HOUSE RULES:
No fires indoors. this includes cigarettes.
We will place garbage recepticles in designated areas- please do not use our land or pond to dispose of your garbage.
Please, do not feed the animals without permission- the purebred Border Collie puppy is only 12 weeks old, and quite sensitive to a lot of foods- she's allergic to many conservatives/preservatives in 'people food'. The three siamese cats can find mice and rodents quite well- if you feed them, they may feel obliged to take seconds, whether you let them or not.
POOLSIDE/ZWEMBAD RULES:
No diving. The pool is too shallow.
No glass in the pool, or around the pool.
There is no lifeguard. Not even off duty.
There will be no urinating or defecating in the water.
Safety first, fun second.
The animals are not obliged to swim. Do not attempt to coerce them to join you.

- 15:30 (or anything close)

Furthermore, to awnser to Jain and Duq, we've been busy getting our attic ready to build, therefor its completely empty and a perfect place to spend a night. (no wet tents or clothes, no bumping your head and crawling, no getting out in the rain to go to the bathroom, etc) People who still prefer to sleep in a tent, we have a big tent, you're welcome to set it up ;)

Folks, if you do not confirm, you aren't planned for. if someone brings an unannounced guest, that guest doesn't eat, and that guest doesn't have a place to sleep. that causes lots of problems.
we will only expect people who have confirmed, precisely, in this thread or via email. instant messages are not reliable, as ... people have a tendency to forget.
if you do not call, or email, or send us a pm, we do not expect you to show up.
Another note: we cannot afford to do this for free. there is no way we can feed more than two people for three meals without going broke
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR GROCERY MONEY.
call us or email us any time today or tonight. believe me, a call at 3am or something like that is actually much more considerate than showing up unannounced at the train station, and making us drive ten times to the station and back.
Any time until noon (12:00) tommorow is also doable.
So far confirmed:
wi_2 13:30 Heerhugowaard
Duq 14:00 Heerhugowaard by car
EVIL 14:00 Heerhugowaard
Gilles 15:30 Heerhugowaard
Jain 15:30 Heerhugowaard

it was a blast, but the next one won't be until after we've finished building the rest of the house up (rebuilding our current bedroom into a study/library, building more into the closet, making a bookshelf in the living room, turning the attic into a bedroom...)

Hoi,

Indien u geeintereseerd bent doet u mee.

For Me Utrecht would be better because it is cheaper for me to get there, but I really don't mind where it would be, I will come anyway!
I asked my parents, but they don't like the idea of a lot of sketchguys like you hanging out at my place in Eindhoven untill late at night, so sadly that's not a possibility.
Maybe some peeps at the HKU or Rietveld Academie can ask other guys/gals if they have some space available. Renting a place sounds a bit expensive to me.

a classroom in the HKU sounds like a good idea.. Would also give me a chance to look around there besides the "open dag".
I just think for you guys the only downside is "no drinking" ^^

I thought this might be interesting for some of you to go to..;Tentoonstelling; Bodybeeld, het menselijk lichaam ontleed (http://www.uu.nl/uupublish/tentoonstellinge/wisseltentoonste/bodybeeld/40621main.html)
When I'm in Utrecht I think I'll go see if it's a nice exposition. I have a "museumjaarkaart" anyway so it's free *yay's*

READ~!!!! :pirate:
hello everybody,
kixx and I were planning to go and draw in Breda at 23 sept. (Saturday) So anyone who's bored and is able to come to Breda then, you're welcome :)
I'm meeting kixx at 13,00 at roosendaal and we will move to Breda then, so we're going to be at the station of Breda around 13.30 -14.00. We haven't planned anything special, but there is a big park just 1 minute from the station and enough bars and stuff where you can sit inside if the weather is bad.
Hope to hear from you guys! btw, for any Belgium people watching this thread, Breda is very close to Belgium, and it shouldn't be a problem to get there.
