I haven't been to the Sunday Art/Not session in awhile-- but, I remember it as a bit crowded and HOT-- dress lightly. It's basically set up in a big circle around the model. On model breaks, an interesting ritual is the walk-around-- where a lot of people walk the circle and take a peek at everyone's drawings.
There's some really good artists there.

Thanks Kambers, how is the parking, i'm not much of a Seattle guy, or actually a downtown type of guy. Any parking nearby or ones i would have to pay for. I know awhile back Kekai and Xia would go there, i'm wondering if they still go there.

Hi Sok,
I'll be going to Art/Not on Sunday -- the street parking is all free on Sundays, so you can park anywhere. There's usually plenty of parking in that area on Sunday mornings.
See ya,

Oh shit sup Eli, how you been buddy, kew kew at least i'll be able to see a familiar face (lol hopefully unless you grown a beard and grown longer hair) when i'm there. Sounds great i'm excited. I'm working graveyard at my workplace (casino in tacoma), 10pm til 6 am, friday night to wednesday morning, so i'll be up at awake ready to head to do some sketching.

Hey Incredible Sok: yeah, parking in downtown on Sunday is free! Though, I'd advise showing up early: the session tends to be crowded and the regulars are pretty territorial re their favorite spots.
Art/Not provides free "horses"-- those things you straddle and can lean yer big ol' drawin' board upon-- but the regulars have an attitude about their territory for the horseys!
And, the lighting is a bit harsh-- blasted from multiple directions-- thus, your choice of location affects your drawing, seeing, quality.
My observation? The better locations are at the bottom o' the stairs.
On the farside: some chair type facilities. The "Moleskine" types gravitate here!

Cool thanks Kamber if your there this sunday give me a shout out. I'm glad i got some more good info, i guess i'll be gravitating where the moleskins are.....lol

hey, your avatar has a Gorillaz look to it. neat!
um, you can make fun of me...i don't mind. ;)
yeah, guest speaker...basically stuff tying science and art together i guess.
i was sought out by norwescon, so it's kinda off the beaten path, but i think it'll be fun. :)
The Incredible Sok
March 2nd, 2010, 10:55 PM
Yeah my avatar was modeled after the Gorillaz, i'm glad that it stood out, wasn't sure if people would see that. Decided to draw myself looking like one of them, was listening to their newest album and needed a new avatar so presto!!! Damn, they sought you out, that's a big deal though, especially when they asked you. Congrats buddy!!

And thanks. We've been getting into some fun little projects as of late. Recently did a talk at PechaKecha Seattle on the topic of Art vs Science. That was fun too.

Anyone out there interested in working on a Deep Space horror RPG? I'm recruiting artists at the moment and figured I'd mention it to the group first.

redehlert - is there a certain area in norwescon we should look for you at? Never been personally, but a coworker is apparently going. That's where I first heard of the convention.
Personally, I'd love to attend one of these meetings more so just to see yall in action lol. I'm of no caliber skill but someday! Finally bought my own car..so transportation is possible now =)
Someone talked about the art/not terminal meetup...is that the eastside meetup grp? I'm going to try to go to atleast one meetup if not this weekend (may be working this weekend) next week.
Undertow - No more sand! No more deployments for me...8 or so months and then i'm out of the military! vaq 134 had its last afghan/iraq tour and is now on med cruise rotation (which i wont see ). Hope all is well.
These life drawing meetups are addictive! I'm loving them..i find myself not wanting to do anything else. Screw copying pictures and posemaniacs. (I know this is elementary for everyone else but lol I have to start some where).
ok ok..getting off watch soon. Take care all.

Maybe we could also pitch in to Jason's newly announced charity/supply drive as well. I'll be buying a few Sb's and some pencil/eraser supplies, and it'd be cool to make this into an Ultra-combo Meetup. Charity, drawingz, and hanging out. :) What you guys think?

Take a moment and read this message from sir Manley (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2715032#post2715032). One thing of inspiration is what the Austin POD is doing for the local youth with 2/monthly Saturday classes.
Perhaps there is something that we can do for the underprivileged in Seattle? I have a few contacts in Seattle that could be asked if there was an interest.

Lately i've been uninspired and unmotivated to do anything, even though i look at alot of people's artwork, i'm guessing that their work is so good that it makes me feel like i would never catch up, especially when they are doing digital work, and i'm still stuck with my pencil. I feel like i'm at a big disadvantage. Anyone have any cure to this when they get into this type of rut.

Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Draw what inspires you or just put the pencil on the paper, move it around, find shapes, turn it into something. The only person you need to worry about is you. Worrying about how you compare becomes a mental roadblock to success and eventually making breakthroughs with your work. There's always a bigger fish. It's what you do with your work that matters.

Hey Sok,
Just keep diggin' yer heels in with the pencil work and keep on improving this skill set. Digital is just another implementation tool.
I've actually been going with more traditional drawing in my work as I attempt to improve this side of my art. As a result, my digital work improves by leaps and bounds.
And Sok....patience will reward you.
Best,
D

Thanks Mike and Dave, i am my biggest critic, and sometimes i'm just really hard on myself, cause i expect myself to be better. Your right patience is the key. I need to see drawing as an excitement again instead of treating it like it's a job.

Hey Mike,
I would be totally interested! I keep trying to get into Microsoft and they keep ignoring me entirely. :/ I may just have to get in testing on NATAL, but I would really rather work at the art stuff, and sci fi is my favorite genre ever. :)
JETPACK! Holy crap! I miss you, dude! Does anyone know when our next meet would be? I keep losing the link to this thread, the search is really hard and crappy to use to find individual threads instead of posts or posters.
And lots of love for Sok! We need to get together and draw/paint. If you're ever in the Redmond area, there's myself and a lot of other digipen grads who wanna keep up on their art, I'm sure we could arrange some drawing time and you could hang out with us! I can also help you with digital, if you like. I used to be all about Painter, but I've become pretty accustomed to Photoshop. (Even though CS4 is the most finicky digital painting program EVER.)
Sapphire
May 3rd, 2010, 01:23 PM
Oh, also, I forgot to mention! I don't know if you guys know, but Digipen has free lifedrawing for people in the industry and/or digipen alums. I'm not sure if you have to register or you can just walk in, I'll look up the information site and post it if you guys are interested! Obviously it's in the Eastside (Redmond, at the Digipen art campus.), but I need to figure out if it will still be in the original building, because they're moving everybody into this huge new campus... but I'm pretty sure it's not ready yet.

Hey Everyone!
I'll be teaching a class starting July 7th. Fundamentals of Drawing from Life.
Also, starting July 8th, I'll be running a Portrait Drawing night. Works like this: You show up with whatever drawing materials and 5 bucks. One person sits for 20 minutes, everyone draws. We rotate sitting for a 20 minute portrait drawing until everyone has sat, or 3 hours has passed. Great opportunity to practice drawing a variety of peeps with good lighting! Will start July 8th and run indefinitely!
Hope to see some of you there! At least at the portrait nights!
Let me know if you have any questions!

Its listed as intermediate and mentions learning the programs and the tablet though.
"After becoming familiar with the tablet and painting software, you are free to focus your concentration on drawing and painting"
So Im unsure if it would be an appropriate class? As per Im familiar with both. Otherwise looking at a animal sculpting class.

As a bit of self promotion I started a blog a few months back covering art direction and illustration. This might be quite a shot in the dark, and a bit off-topic, but does anybody here know a Ralph H Clemmons? I bought a small painting of his from a junk store and it had his info stamped on the back.
Ralph H Clemmons
8844 Ashworth Ave No.
Seattle, WA. 98103
All I can find online is that he's passed away now (he'd be in his 100's I think), he lived with Ila Clemmons (in her late 50's I think), and he was a member of Seattle Co-Arts.
It's a nice little painting but fairly dirty and stained, which is too bad. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody here knew of him.

Heh, I don't expect this thing to revolve around my schedule, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, especially if other nights may work better for a majority of people.
Also, there is a watercolor painting group that meets every Friday from 1:30-4:30 in Ballard if anyone wants to come. I think it costs $3 to just drop in, but all skill levels are welcome. Hey Dusty! It was great meeting you at ECCC. I'm happy that I was able to get a couple of your prints as well!
That was my first Comicon, and I have to say that it was easily one the greatest experiences of my life. I learned so much, and I felt nice to just totally geek out for a whole weekend!
Take it easy man, and good luck with your art!

Thanks again, man!
It was a pleasure!
ECCC is always a blast no matter what side of the table you are on. Glad you had fun and hope to see you next year!

Anyone no where I could find some life drawing classes near downtown? Just moved here and I'd like to get into one.

Hey nocozo,
Definitely check out Gage Academy. It can be a bit of a hike, but they have pretty cheap night figure drawing sessions - short pose, long pose, etc.
I ran the short pose last semester and those models know what they're doing. Learned a ton.

I really enjoy the Sunday sessions at Art Not Terminal. Starts at 10am, it's run by Lyle Silver. Get there early (930ish, or so) set up a bench, and enjoy. Quick gestures, followed by five 25 minute poses.
There is also a Saturday session which the poses varied in length, but I haven't enjoyed that one as much.
Gage is also great, I usually would hit that up on Sundays after the other one, and Gage has an open session at least one night a week.

Oh, I haven't been to a figure drawing session in /years/, not since that figure drawing class I took in community college once. I feel slightly intimidated just walking in to a random session in Seattle... which is why I haven't done it yet, but maybe it's worth the nervous anxiety to try anyways?
The Art/Not Terminal Sunday one sounds interesting and I suppose that's tomorrow. Are benches provided?
Also, anyone have any suggestions of what medium would be best to start up into life drawing sessions again? I use to work in charcoal and sepia inks, but those seem too messy for beginning again.
