Teen Challenge 113: Destroyer of Worlds

Topic
This week's topic is Destroyer of Worlds. Remember that a world can be destroyed in more than one way (physically destroyed, corrupt government, pollution etc), so there is lots of room to work with here. What is it that can destroy entire worlds though? Make it impressive.

Focus--NOW MANDATORY
Focus is a new addition to the Teen Challenges to... well, challenge you a bit more!

This week's focus is scale. Make sure the size of things is very apparent, whether it is something the size of a planet or something very small. You can do this through various tricks such as using an object with a known size (a person, a planet etc) and placing it near whatever it is you are painting so your subject appears to be a certain size relative to the known object. Other things may include atmospheric perspective, linear perspective, overlapping shapes etc.

Deadline
The deadline is Sunday 27th of March, 23:59 GMT

You've got a week from now, so what are you waiting for?!

I'm still relatively new to the forums but I think I may have a go with this. A few ideas are spawning in my head!

Great theme and focus, unfortunately I'm not going to have time to compete for another couple of weeks. Looking forward to seeing what people do.

Some spare time, so here is what I have so far. Essentially going to be a hamster with its pouches full with a little planet in his hands and others on the floor. I thought it was interesting. Not only this its an easier concept for me to practice :)

Crits feel welcome.

Final, really proud of the colours, will put it in the final thread when it is open. No worries about moving it :)

I'll be putting up one as well, can't work on it right now though. I'm rendering out a fire simulation in Blender and it's eating my CPU. The lagg prevents me from painting properly ;p

rvserrano - welcome to your 1st teen challenge, I really like what you have done, better than me when I 1st started. My one bit of advice would be, check your light source, the orange beam, if its your sun should be shining top to bottom on the distanced planet, also, its an orange glow and you are using a white light for your colour, try adding a little of the colour from the light source onto where it shines :)

Wingal - I am like your small and relitivly innocent approach, good luck with it can't wait to see it develop.

GrowdanBowl - Haha, unlucky. Good luck with the fire animation though.

Nyctalgia - Your lucky though, you know what tablet I use people a ten pound one that I got cheap... it doesn't even have a pressure function, it sticks to the fixed paint brush size :O but I hope you can sort it soon :)

and my final final decided to tweak just a wee bit I know its not to adventurous guys, but this one for me was all about practicing my painting skills which if you look at my previous entries I lack.

Here's my first WIP. Going with the slightly unimaginative approach of "HUGE PLANET-EATING FREAKIN' MONSTAH!":

Growdanbowl -Hey man, the classics are always good :D I know you haven't finished yet, but if you want it to seem like more aggressive, you can have the claws digging or ripping into the planet.

Hmmm, that would have been pretty sweet but I'm sort of finished so I won't bother. And in a way I don't want it to feel very aggressive, it's more like huge cow that eats planets instead of grass, which I feel is quite horrible in it's own right ;p

Thanks! I like yours too, nothing like cute animals crunching planets like they were cereal ^^

I just finished my Devourer of Worlds! I call him Harold:

Nice work everybody!
Okay, I'm off to a pretty late start but I'm gonna try to finish today. I thought the topic sounded mind of like a pro wrestling nickname, so i got this idea of giant aliens putting these machines on planets. The machines project some kind of aura-like field based on the size of the populations. The auras wrestle. Sometimes the populations aren't very even.

Verticle - I think I get it but I find it a confusing concept. Good start though.

Wingal - Your going for the small but like... termites or something :D I like it

Here's a wip, hopefully it's a bit clearer. And thanks!

Thanks! They are basically alien moth larvae that hatch from eggs left on a planet. After the eggs hatch they eat nearly everything plant-like in nature, causing massive erosion and an increase in temperature on the planet, which is needed for them to transform into the cocoon stage and then space moth! :yum:
