Hi all, i'm new here and i am french.
Some months ago i tried to do some children's illustrations. they are here : http://laureduthe.ultra-book.com/portfolio
Some days after i made them, i felt depressed. i didn't like them anymore, there was so much missing from what i would like to do, and i didn't really know what.

After a while i realized there was big lack of composition, values, narration, anatomy, gesture, movement, expressions, research of reference, etc...
So i have to work all that... have to study seriously !

i'm really happy i found concept art with full of ressources.
to keep motivation i start my sketchbook here :)
some studies from bridgman, bammes, hultgren, and an exercise : i tried to draw severals heads from one reference (the one at the right) for the light and expression.

Here a re some fold studies
i only begin to understand how the knowledge of the principal types of folds help to fear less all those combinations on the complicated ones.

studies are looking good, and don't be afraid to just draw, honestly, the illustrations looked good, they could be pushed, but let's face it, we could always do better. learning to be happy with your output is just as rewarding.

keep it up!

I know that we can always do better and sometimes underestimate our work.
But i feel honestly that my previous illustrations lack so much things because i did'nt make enough studies.
In fact i made some before, but not seriously enough, like doing a lot but not very trying to understand what i studied because i wanted to go fast (and finally it was a waste of time )
Now i redo all from the beginning and take my time to really understand and assimilate all the things i can.
And of course, i will continue to be happy by drawing :)
Thank you for your post Dope Fiend !
