Hey

I just started using corel painter 11, and i have some photos I want to redo in painter which i made into black and white in photoshop.

These photos are made mostly in black and white in the sense there is very little gray. So i want to draw over them in painter, but i can't draw over the black parts. I don't know why?

Can anyone explain this to me?

I open the photo and can draw fine and fix up the white parts but I can't do anything on the black parts. I can use the eraser tool on the black parts but can't draw on them.

Someone help.

Please.

you are most likely using a brush that uses the gel/multiply buildup method as opposed to a cover buildup method. What brush are you using? Is it one of the watercolor brushes, markers or felt pens. Several other types such as pencil and acrylics also have variants that use gel buildup.

Try using a brush from artist oils and see if you can cover the black areas.

Another thing to look at is if they layer style you are painting on is set to gel or multiply. Some brushes auto convert the layer to gel. try changing the layer blending style to default if it is on gel or multiply

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your advice. That does help. I'm new at this only go Painter yesterday.

But while i understand what you explained and why it didn't work, I have another problem.

My brush selector is nowhere to be found, so I can't change brushes. I could only the first time the program started i tried reinstaling it, it didn't fix the problem. So i'm stuck with a pencil.

I thoughts how i can sort out this mess?

windows -> arrange -> default or smthg

other way, ctrl+b is shortcut for brush creator, you can switch between brush methods in the "general" tab.
