You know, first month of the tablet, and I'm having fun with it :D
So I will make a sketchbook, and I will try to improve and things :)
I'm a hard worker.. really :D

:medusachow:

EDIT: 2011, is what it took me to start drawing o_________o I didn't know I was procrastinating so long.
Been drawing 4 hours a day now. Wish me luck! :yayca:

EDIT2: The dog picture isn't mine, but it looks so cute. :D!.

EDIT3: Just drawing in my spare time now.

EDIT4: I have time now! :yayca:

I made the idea!

Thank you nistarn. :) ok ok ok but how do I draw mountains digitally? :S

I like the underwater picture (is that pokemon? :) ) but for drawing bodies and people, I'd train up a bit with traditional art. Only start using digital work when you are happy and feel experienced enough with pencil and paper to make a new step. Digital art can be a big step for most, and like they say, don't run before you can walk.

Ok. But I cant affort supplies and stuff (like oils because I heard they're very expensive). :P I'll just get a sketchbook and pencil and start grinding. Thanks :D

I read back and wao I shouldve worded carefully :davi:

Wait, if you have a tablet, shouldn't you be able to afford at least a sketchbook, pencils, and erasers? o______O Unless you got it as a present or something lmao.

Oh, I see a Pokemon~ I forgot what it's called though lmao, too many Pokemon. T__T Anyways, you're off to a good start. Rendering, a bit of cleaning up, and blending in the brush strokes can be something that you can work on based on the stuff you've posted up so far. That's all I can say for now. x]

You have a cute imagination. :) I like the overall look of the mantine painting. Like supermarionbros said, blending in the strokes would clean it up a bit. As for the mountains, it looks like the lighting is all over the place. I can't really help with digital work, though.

Keep it up and study, study, study.

AHH I see, same here! I got Intuos4 as well, but for Christmas though. I'm still learning how to use it though, aha. Also, which digital program are you using? Photoshop? Actually it's not that it's bad to use for digital painting, but, correct me if I'm wrong, but personally I find it a bit harder to paint on Photoshop. The program that I use is Paint Tool SAI, and with that it's pretty much for digital painting, so you already have your blending settings, brushes, etc. set up for you and you can just change it right away. In Photoshop, you have to keep going back and forth with the brush settings, close the window, test it out, then go back again to change the settings...

I don't know, I actually may be wrong about the Photoshop part, but if I am, then I'm sorry about that. I haven't been using it as much as I used to before. .____. I don't even know if you're using it or not lmao, but yeah... I don't even know how to blend on Photoshop, unless you use blur or smudge or something, which may soften your work too much. =/

And I do suggest on taking art classes, which will help push you further to create more artwork. However in the end, it's all up to you, and you're pretty much responsible for your own improvement. People can help you out along the way, but in the end, it's you who's doing the art. So basically, school shouldn't be the only thing that's making you do art, and it's something that I realized up 'til now. So draw outside of school, draw even in the winter... Hey, I get cold too, but it doesn't stop me from doing artwork. Just wear a blanket like I do, lmao...

Don't worry, if you're like me and tend to say yes to everything, but in the end you don't do it and procrastinate.... I'm like that too, but I've been trying my best to change my habits lately. Ever since I hit grade 12 [a few months ago], I've been drawing a bit more and tried to put a bit more effort into my artwork, since I'm going to college next year and such. But yeah, to help keep you motivated, do it because you like it. If you feel inspired to do something, do it right away or else the motivation will slip away. Even if you start on something and get unmotivated by it later on, at least you started on something, which is another step for becoming better than you originally were. ^.^

And yeah........ I'm gonna go stop now, I rant too much. XD

Hi Hi! :D

Haven't updated in a while! :)
This is just a preview of what I've been up to (quick gestures in the tablet since I don't have a scanner, and I don't really draw that well with a tablet so :O and I don't have a scanner :()

Wee, and anyone have advice on anatomy tidbits? :O
I have much trouble with arms, and the little muscles that's hard to notice :(
I have no trouble with the major ones though (torso, upper/lower back, however the ones on the shoulder blades confuse me, and a little of the legs) :D.

I stopped drawing for a couple days and I forget everything yaaargh!

I try drawing my own arms...but no muscles. :yayca:

So I am still trying to get the concept of forms down (well... 'feeling' the forms).

:ilaekae:

I'm still alive! No scanner...can't scan progress :davi:

All I've been doing so far are still lives, getting values down and some observational skills. Sailing smooth so far, very intimidated about more complicated studies. I don't really have a scanner..I think...actually lemme go check, if I do I'll scan my sketchbook and post the pictures here to show my progress. Right now this is like a journal... I uhh :oneye:

Yeah but today I tried digital...yeah it didn't go so well...lol

Hi Nyoron, solid start! have you tried flipping the canvas and ref horizontally to look for inaccuracies when copying? And you should post some pencils if you do those!

Keep it up :)

Oh cool, you hang around /ic/ ? I gave up on that one too, freaking hard. Color scheme was impossible. Anyways, you got lots of cool stuff here :3 Looks like your getting the hang of digipaint. My only advice is that you should think about your brush strokes and which direction and flow it is to them. So that they emphasize the form of the object. It looks like your onto it, so i'll just leave it there. Keep it up man :3

There were random colors everywhere on the skin and I don't even know if it was yellow or green...the artist must have had a colorful mind. :lifedrawing:
Yes, I thought about that too when the idea and concept of forms just magically clicked in my head. :yayca:
Thanks I will, but I don't know if I did it in todays exercise... :davi:

I was surprised when I did #19
I will :lounge:

In this exercise I tried copying textures I saw on reference photos. This is the first batch. I learned alot of things by just doing these three. I hope to do the rest of the template, but I have a bigger focus in mind right now. :yayca: I'll upload/and do some more stuff today if I can...Thanks for tuning in! :donk:

Hey you are working on all the right things! The contrast is your grayscale studies is improving. I would work more on what teloh mentioned about brush stroke and form, using your mark to paint around an object. Like if you were to paint the dude's arm in #20, making marks around his arm instead of lengthwise with it would help show the mass. Hope you get what i mean. :)

YihyoungLi

Don't worry about details. Get the values down first in big broad shapes and the details will begin to form themselves. It helps to squint or blur your eyes to see if the painting overall matches the reference. Gogogo. :)

Ok ok ok so this one right here is a attempt of doing something simple with color...but I think I brought out the tones a tad too much. :I

hi hi, i haven't posted here because mostly I've been doing are those accuracy thingies and I feel like it would get repetitive. :I plus I've been super super busy this week so I didn't have time to draw much! :(

Hey Syrella! Thanks for commenting. Yes, I have studied anatomy but I forgot it, but I learned the most important thing ever! Forms! :yayca: It really helped me in the long run afterwards. Plus learning all those muscles is kinda irritating when you forget them the next day.

You are working on the right stuff. You are becoming more confidant in your strokes. The last one and the landscapes above it are going in the right direction. Continue adjusting the shapes of color and how they interact with each other and you got it. Keep it simple and clear. :) Maybe do some more gestures like the ones in #34. There r some good websites like characterdesigns.com (http://characterdesigns.com/).
