P.O.W.! Challenge 46
Deadline: Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.
Topic: A Present...
This one is for the holidays, and it's a little weird to explain, so bear with me here...The title "A Present..." can be applied legitimately in a number of ways for this Challenge, so you have possibly more to contend with than a couple pages of funnies. This is what you will have to do to qualify for the poll:
1. Choose one (or more, in any combination you think works) approach from this list:
------This entire Challenge is a "comic" or some variation that may or may not use panels that is an ACTUAL gift for someone specific. This means you can lengthen the title to "A Present to xxxxx" if you want if it helps your presentation. It also means that this does not have to necessarily follow the literal comic format where you read a story as such over a number of pages. It can be a collection or assemblage of various messages and images that all relate to each other and the person/organization receiving the "present."
------This entire Challenge is a straight-forward comic ABOUT a "present," which can be any interpretation of the word "present" in the context of a gift of some sort. This is the least complex and most straight-forward of all the choices. It can be about the present itself, making a present, finding a present, giving or exchanging presents, ETC.
------The entire Challenge is an actual gift item that is useful to ANYONE who receives it, though it still has to follow the mechanical specs for a comic. This is similar to the first version above, but has to be acceptable (and hopefully appreciated by) ANY person that would receive it. Think of it as more of a variation of the Hallmark-Card quickie that you'd get for an acquaintance or a casual friend. It CAN be in the format of a comic with panels, etc., as in a student guide or recipe thing, etc., but should still obviously be a "present/gift."
1. Design a cover that is appropriate for the direction you take in Number 1 above.
Note that this Challenge REQUIRES a MINIMUM of FOUR pages PLUS a COVER.
You can interpret the art any way you wish, and the more creatively, the better. Any media. B&W or Color. We're also going to stick with the (almost) three-week Challenge period for a while because it seems to be giving people a bit more time to play.
You can present your solution as a minimum of FOUR to a TENTATIVE maximum of SIX-EIGHT pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want. You can go to additional pages without asking if you have a decent idea that requires it--just don't get too extreme on page counts.
REMEMBER: The minimum for going to poll is FOUR pages plus a COVER for this Challenge.
Standard Comic Book Size:
--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)
This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and post your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs.
Good luck.
Again, this one is three weeks rather than the usual two weeks to see if it will allow more participation or just cause a lot more procrastination.
P.O.W.! Challenge 47 will be posted on Sunday Midnight, January 2, 2011 to give us a week-long break over Christmas/New Year.

A little note here for all of you who have supported the P.O.W.! Challenges...thankyewthankyewthankyew...
Just a reminder--those of you who didn't get a chance to finish exactly the way you wanted to, or ran into deadline problems, remember there is a sticky section where you can post your stuff when you do get it up to speed.
