We value your input and will consider every suggestion. Feel free to email aaron at the artdepartment if you have any special leads.

Selections will be based on:

1. Are enough people interested in a particular topic?
2. Is a suggested artist interested/available to teach?
3. Will the material be new or redundant?

Looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks!

I would like to see Justin Sweet creating a fantasy piece in Painter.
It would be great.

i would love to see a class about rendering in pencil using hatching and crosshatching methods, in studies/thumbnails/life drawings/etc, when do to so and when not to. there probably wouldn't be much in it on the technical side but seeing someone like whit brachna or daniel garza do a few demos and talk over it would be unimaginably awesome. :)

Anything from Bjørn Hurri (Hurricane) would always be a pleasure! He has after all always been a CA veteran, especially in the Sketchbook section.

I would really like to see Carl Dobsky do 3 point perspective.

The pencil rendering idea sounds good too. I need to work on my pencil technique. Also, if you could show someone painting an illustration with watercolor or gouache, that would be good. I guess Sterling Hundley sort of did that, but his was more of a mixed media thing where he mixed in ink and acrylic. More videos by illustrators would be a good thing. I am more interested in illustration than in doing work for games or movies.

I'd love to see a James Gurney downloadable video.

I'd also love to see Painter given some more love. It's been a while since any downloads featuring it have been made. In an ideal world I'd love you to get Simon Dominic/BaronImpossible to do one - maybe incorporating ArtRage too.

Three point or any advanced perspective would also be welcome. I remember in college being taught to generate a perspective drawing from plan and elevation and also calculating where shadows would fall using perspective. I can still do the first bit - but the shadows method eludes my brain.

I'll give another vote for a James Gurney download. That would be awesome.

Other than that, it might be nice to have more videos concerning 3D mediums, like sculpture. Maybe something about building maquettes for reference.

I would like to see Justin Sweet creating a fantasy piece in Painter.
It would be great.

This would be absolutely amazing. This would be my first choice.

I also second the one with James Gurney and I would like a longer in depth one with Greg Manchess (like the ones from Donato Giancola or Dan Dos Santos).

I also would be interested in a vid with Serge Birault aka Papa Ninja. I've never seen a video tutorial about this digital airbrush style. It's so far removed from everything I strike for that I'm sure I could get something new out of this.

In an ideal world I'd love you to get Simon Dominic/BaronImpossible to do one - maybe incorporating ArtRage too.

I second this, too.

Question:
Are there any plans to release Jason Manleys Color Theory class as a Download, too? I bought the stream, but the composition Download for example was well structured and easier to watch. I would like to have the same with color theory and maybe mood&emotion,

But I am actually also still psyched about the part 2 of Andrew Jones' Fine art series.
And like every one else is saying, bring James G forth!

I would love to see a pencil rendering video from someone like Wes Burt, DanielC, Lukias, Whit or someone else with crazy pencil skills. Or a video from Dobsky about the figure drawing or cast drawing they do at the Next Gen Atelier (and the rest of his perspective series).

More Zhang Lu videos in general.

I love watching him work, and the narration about the differences between gender/race is really helpful when trying to draw a specific type of individual from your head.

So far there's been Asian Males and Caucasian females, but I think a better format from this point on would be to do it 1 Male/1 Female, ie:
African Males and Females as 1 video, 2 males 2 females. Split the video's time between 1 Male and 1 Female drawing rather than 1 whole video on 1 drawing. and that way you'd have 2 PIP screens instead of 3, so if you want to look at the other drawing it'll be easier to see.

And once you get to Asian Females and Caucasian Males you could pair them together.

Or you know, keep doing them as you've been doing them. I'll buy them all regardless.

Another idea with James Gurney would be a lecture focused on process. I think something he is particularly masterful in executing (but also teaching- in his Imaginative Realism book) is the process he goes through to create a realistic painting of an impossible/fantasy scene. Watching him actually execute the piece would be less beneficial than demonstrating the many forms of preparation he might go through for an illustration. (Thumbnails, studies, building reference models, ect.

But again, all things Gurney= awesome. ANy subject would be sweet. He seems like a really genuine art enthusiast who is willing to share his knowledge.

I agree. You should make a dvd for beginners on any topic. Environments, figure drawing, introduction to photoshop/painter, etc etc. I would buy anything that is beginner friendly.

Maybe it's because I caught a perspective bug and can't itch it out but....

I wonder if Carl Dobsky or someone else can do a video on odd perspective types. Like 5-point, or a fish-eye view. So far he only has done 1-2 point perspective and I'm just curious on what he or someone else can teach on the other types. Even more so digitally. I have a book that does it traditionally but I wonder what 3-5 point perspective would be like in photoshop. It's something I wouldn't really mind paying 15-30 dollars on.

Something more sequential-art related would also get my attention.

Robogabo: color, composition, and rendering.

Salaryman: design for illustration

Craig Mullins: Matte Painting

Rusty: Pencil drawing: Sketchbooking and Conceptart

Sparth: Concept Development 101 (Game Design)

George Hull: Art Direction 101 (Film Production Art)

It would be cool to if the TAD store could also sell individual teachings from the Illustration Academy vault...

Also it would be cool to see some round-table videos or even group projects recorded for demo purposes so we can see how concept art fits into the larger picture of development

Ok so i noticed there are alot of dvds about human gesture and things to do with the human body, but what about fantasy creatures or dragons, maybe using animals in existence too create something strange. I would love to see an artists process with something strange and or creepy. Or on the flipside how about something with robots or mechs, everyone loves a good mech battle

I think I would spend a wage on dpaint and Elwell featuring in an episode of "Grumpy old men" about Art. Brilliant.

btt, I would personally like to see a video on self-teaching, how to achieve the best results. I know everyone learns differently, but there are certain tasks and milestones incorporated in an art school course which selfteaching doesn't, and I would be delighted hearing some [self-taught] professionals talking about it. Structurewise, not effort.

I don't know if anyone's brought this up before but I don't even want new content at this point, I'd just really love it if the streaming stuff could be made into downloadable videos. Not all internets are made equal, and in any case I really would rather have these videos available to me anytime I want to see them rather than having to wait for a stream. :(

I agree: BASICS!
Especially persective needs some attention.

I might quote Feng Zhu on this:
A lot of viewers arent professionals so watching a professional work wont really help to improve. Its the basics they need to learn.

By the way, Feng Zhu is a great example for used persepctive and that yoou need it for characters or creatures as well. Not only Buildings and vehicles.

Yeah there's actually some more basic stuff in the streaming classes I'd love to download, like George Pratt Carl Dobsky on using sketchbooks and marshall vandruff on anatomy for artists.

There's also the Foundation class in the Discovery Program. I'd put down the $200 on the entire Discovery Program if you guys would just let me download it. It'd save me from having to fly over to another continent for a workshop. :)

Hi Seb, in previous comments I'd mentioned that I would much prefer a download rather than a streaming video, because I don't have the best internet connection. I'd rather wait a day for a full download that I can view at my leisure rather than put up with choppy streaming which I'm never sure when it will just drop out because of my bad connection.

As to the "flying over" I only meant that the foundation class is such a great tool, almost like a full workshop that someone like me (who lives in Manila) woulc have much easier access to than going to an actual workshop overseas. Hope that made sense to you. :)

In any case, I stand by my first request; Please allow us to download the streaming classes, thanks!

Any videos explaining in detail:

1) The Reilly Abstraction (figure)
2) The Reilly Abstraction (head)
3) How to see simple 3D forms in life
4) How to see simple 3D forms in flat media (line drawings, etc) (to learn from masters of line, etc)

I would pay about $40/pc for each if the content were solid. You can hold me to that.

I'd love something on sequential art, especially comics and graphic novels. The way you have to make not just one image but an entire page of images flow together to create a cohesive visual story line that the viewer can follow is so, so difficult! Maybe Scott McCloud could do something like that as a vid?

I would really like to see Carl Dobsky do 3 point perspective.

Same as TimWinkelman and several others member's, a third video on 3-point perspective would be great!
Preferably from Carl Dobsky, as the first two were just perfect!!:yayca: I learned some stuff in his video that many books on perspective gives you a hard time trying to understand...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that anybody who saw Carl Dobsky's 1 Point Perspective dvd would have immediately bought the 2 point dvd, and will now be patiently waiting for 3 point. I feel like my art has this gaping hole in it because I can't get a solid grip on 3 point without the legendary Mr Dobsky. Help Massive Black!

Laurel D. Austin? I've just seen her work on Kotaku - amazing.

Aside from that, I'd love to see something that goes into fashion and clothing design (including hairstyles, of course). Wrapping clothes around the body, refining a design, using sartorial details to enhance the silhouette, accuracy in historical periods, how to economise on details (and where to employ details for best effect), representing different weights of cloth, use of texture, and so on.
