A friend and I are working on a hobby graphic novel, I've painted this for the logo. I plan to have some kind of patern in behind the text and then I might play with outlines and such.
I used the font Dragonbones for referance on the 'in' other then that it is fresh from my head. I was a novice signwrighter for a couple of years and sat infront of a computer tracing and repairing ruined signs and graphics all day every day so I do have a bit of experiance in constructing fonts. Other then that little to no design experiance.
Looking at it atm the only thing that sticks out to me is the 'bo' have a kind of compact look to them which, I dunno, just doesn't seem to sit right with me.

That's very nice already, I can see that you have experience with typeforms.
I feel that the "o" clashes with the theme, too smooth and round compared to the angular and "bony" forms of the other letters, same might go for the round part of the "b", perhaps keep the top part of thaose loops angular, like the top of the "n"?
Also, since the "M" is uppercase, why not keep the whole word uppercase and try to find more symmetric letterforms, like a blackmetal-band-logo style composition? Just an idea. =)

Looks pretty nice. I agree with kab about the type face not quite looking uniform. I would definitely research metal band logos (Jake posted a bunch in the inspiration thread). Even if you're going for something simpler and cleaner, they demonstrate the uniformity that I think yours lacks. Also, I don't know eactly what you have in mind for the pattern background and outlines, but I would probably discourage it. The clean look is generally much nicer than having a bunch of busy-ness.

I see one big simple problem with a very simple solution.

@Kab - Ok I love the bony 'bo' idea and don't know why I didn't think of that myself before posting. I don't know if I would go with all caps, just looking at it I really like how the weight is spread out and I would find it hard to justify the tails on a 'I' and 'B'.
@Liffey - Some of those metal logos are really interesting I'm starting to think of different ways I could play with my current ideas. I do have a problem with making my designs overly busy once I finish with getting the font finished I'll do some concepts and post them up before I go to far into the pattern and busy side of things.
@Raoul Duke - Thanks for that I'm starting to get a better idea of what I should be doing to get this looking right.
Unfortunately I'm busy today so I wont be able to update untilll tomorrow. Thanks to all.

Got some time to fix up the 'bo' somewhat. Will try do some concepts with how I could incorporate a pattern/design thing tomorrow.

Ah, that looks a lot better IMO, not sure about the space between the tail and the loop on the "b" though. Love how you handled the "o", reminds me of some of the solutions I've used for the "ø" I have in my own name. =)

The L is still bugging me. The vertical is completely straight, and the serifs look too tacked on. The L is the least natural looking of these letters.

The vertical matches that of the i, it's the horizontal bar that seems like it should be at a diagonal according to the other letters.

Sweet thanks everyone I think I've got it all looking pretty groovy heres a poster I've layed out with it. The artwork was coloured by my friend Matt Harworth and I did the pencils.
There is a Doujin festival thing happening where we plan to sell this and others A3 size. I'm not a Manga artist but its about the bigest comic related festival you get where I am.
Not much use going to the blog link though we haven't done anything there yet.

Lookin good. I like the illustration, but the soft border is not so much with the good. I did a little design over for ya.

God that looks way better, was up late last night getting all these files prepared, they are on cd and of for print, there is no way for my fix it now. Thanks though Duke I'll remember that for the next time, really like it that way. I did also notice the spelling mistakes fortunately.
