Sounds fun. And I'm coincidentally in a Spider-man mood. Once I finish a different piece with Spidey influence, I'll get to work on this.

Come on peoples - 161views and just 3 joined so far (and Mahran had committed to join before I made the thread)!
Which reminds me .. I previously ran these challenges in 2 parts with a roughs stage and finals stage - would people like that this time too?

Hey G
I don't mind either way really. I'll have mine finished before the 9th but if a couple of people ask for more time then yeh, lets push it a week or so. It would be very nice to have a lot of people involved in this challenge :rocker:

Thanks. First time for me. May be an obvious question but... what exactly are we looking for in this picture...?
that's cool - hopefully the first of many eh! The aim of this series of challenges is to provide a fun environment for people to push the dynamism in their art. The series will cover as many aspects of dynamism as possible: motion, angles, perspective, style, colour, etc... in this challenge the particular aim is to draw a pic of Spidey from a really dynamic angle! Try being adventurous with the piece and feel free to put Spidey in a scene with a situation happening that enhances the energy and story of the pic! :painting:
Hope that helps! Any other questions just ask and I'l do my best to answer as soon as I can. :lounge:
Also remember that you can post roughs and WIPs in this thread if you'd like and ask for feedback. I know it's technically a challenge but constructive crits and advice is encouraged so please help each other out :yayca:

I don't see any roughs up yet, but here's mine ( fully photoshop, which I suck at)... yes, the anatomy is wonky & way too muscular & it's weird but... tear me apart, it's the only way I'll get better!

Lokin good! Yeah, just a little too muscular but it's great that you can do roughs with photoshop. I'm not comfortable doing that at all! I have mine roughed on paper and I'll probably have a very tight pencil drawing before I do anything digital.
Really lookin forward to seeing your final piece.
Keep up the great work :steph:

Dacountno2 - great start man! - at this point its still pretty early on to give any helpful crits, however i can see that its already starting to become pretty busy with all the saturated colors in it, which is fine, but take care that it doesnt distract from the selling point of your image, which is spidey. you may want to knock the bright colors back a bit, maybe desturate them with a levels adjustment layer. then you can really have some freedom to lift spidey out more with some vibrant colors. keep going!

NickyBeats: Great to have u with us, loved your SB...
Dacountno2: This angle looks more dynamic. Maybe you could use 1 point pespective and have him falling from a height or something. In any case, great work, lookin forward to seeing the final version..

Great job on helping each other out with comments etc! Dacountno - great 2nd pic taking on the comments and it now really fits the challenge brief of a dynamic viewpoint! Loving the style and vibrant colours - only crit right now is his left leg (to our right) looks a bit too misshapen despite the cool wacky style - almost like the calf is part of the knee and the foot is a right foot.. I really like the pic though great work!
Also welcome to the party NickyB and Mohog :D Have added your names to the list! (zaorr - you taking part? go on ya know ya want to! ;P and don't you worry a Batman challenge or two is deff planned dude!)
Oh yeah NickyB The Name's Greg but I don't tend to use my real name in forums - just call me The7 if you like dude - I'm always shortening names :P
Keep rocking everyone :rocker:

Zaorr: Loomis has a heroic proportions book!? *rushes out to the internet to see if it's public domain...
I also dig the bats! :)
The7: thanks man - I always have some minor issues with extreme foreshortening & overlapping; was trying for a socked feet look ( i always find it funny in the comics, that often his feet are just little points, even when guys like Mcfarlane & Lee are drawing him...)
Just cant decide on what looks better: stylized or lifelike representational. Trying for a kewl happy medium I guess. I'll get there at some point!:mod:

O.o whoa! lol didn't see that one coming but trust good ol Mohog to get crazy with the theme! Rock on dude - I love the humour in your wips +1 for cute Spidey n Venom! :D hehe
One comment is remember to really push the Dynamic viewing angle - lets see some crazy perspective etc! Get that awesome imagination of yours into 3D space and imagine zooming the 'camera' around for the most epic view!
Keep on rocking everyone! :steph:

MoHog: Spiderman vs. Aliens? awesome! Predators would be neato too!
Actually, any comic book character vs preds/ aliens is badass. except Superman.. his was a bit lame...
VERY fond memories of the original Batman vs. Predator, back in... 91? 92?
I'm stoked to see where this leads Mo!

Dacountno2 - oh yea man! nice update! i really like the perspective on this, it really feels like hes hurdling downwards!
MoHog - hell yea dude! spidey vs. aliens! -i also remember that old batman vs predator comic! that one was epic!
i was doing some loosey goosey pen doodles last night of spidey, but they werent very dynamic to say the least haha, ive gotta really come up with something good because i looove spiderman. i think ill have to read one of my spidey books for some inspiration, maybe "one more day". that book was pretty sweet! oh shit, maybe ill throw Mephisto in there too!

NickyBeats: great grasp of anatomy, envy you for that. i'd look at capitalising on the massiveness of the hulk, have him more looming or chucking something just to add more depth. maybe.

MoHog - thanks man! yea, i think im gonna bring hulk's head around more, so it looks like spidey just swung past him, and to give him more of a pissed off face. i think im gonna toss some colors on it tonight, and see how it goes. by the way, yours is looking awesome man! love that alien in the bg, getting blown to hell!! great work!
Jordan85 - hey man! glad to see your gonna participate in this one! i really love your style man, very dynamic, and original pose for spidey! i was struggling with my pose for far too long, so i opted for the generic swing. i wish i had a better mental pose library. but ahh well, hopefully the paints can pick up some of my lazy slack!
keep it up everyone!! great stuff!

Looking good NickyB - just need to work on the energy of the whole picture and maybe go that extra bit with the dynamic view - go for it! PUSH that dynamism! :anime: Love your style though :lounge:
MoHog - yeah man that's what I was talking about! Great job dude and including the other characters to push the story of the pic too - great job!
Hey Jordan - welcome to the comp and really liking the pic! great unique pose bursting with dynamic movement and if you can add some epic dynamic viewpoint elements with his enviro it would rock!

Found some time today to scribble up an idea of my own - early days but thought I'd post something! :D
Crop I'm thinking of working on :painting:
1011592
NickyB - Digging the style dude! my only crit is the kinda static movement - almost feel like Hulk should be taking a swing at spidey and missing with his upper body twisting to the left (following the movement of his right-arm punch) and Spidey showing a little more twisting fluidity too! But these are just thoughts re pushing a great pic that bit further into Dynamism! thanks so much for takin the time to join in! :yayca:

Ooh looking good Mohog! And thanks for the comments - I was originally thing of Green Goblin then it kinda went the direction of a remote controlled craft (controlled by GG).
Back to your pic - I'd give it a few more passes on the shadows and highlights to really give it depth and luscious colours :D Pred's linework is also looking a little lumpy. But great pic dude - really like the dynamic situation and view!

Hey peoples! I've been really busy with a new commission which has quite a tight deadline so haven't been able to work on my piece at all :( noooo...
BUT!
I will be extending the deadline to this Sunday - 11th July :D
So anybody needing that extra bit of time can get their pic sorted :painting:
MM&Magain - great pic dude! Yep Spidey is a little wobbly in places and it'd be cool to see more of a Dynamic viewpoint exploited as that's the particular theme for this challenge. You could add a background with a really dynamic viewpoint!
Edit: Doh! I must have accidentally edited out me saying how awesome your venom was! I was sure I left that in sorry dude - Your venom rocks! :rocker:
Keep rocking everyone!

Asatira
July 9th, 2010, 12:45 PM
Mahran: I may try to push the pose a little further, arch a little more, but the idea behind it is that moment in-between swings or at the end of a swing. So I'll try a little skyline background to indicate the moment.

July 9th, 2010, 02:01 PM
Hey all only managed some subtle colour n detail changes, but will have to leave it as this for this one. hope you like.

MM&M again: thats some schweet venom goin' on there (love the eyes). really nice piece, would agree with the7artist7 on the dynamic angle though.
Asatira: luvly sketch, looking forward to the linework - back arching would be a good idea.
The7Artist7
July 9th, 2010, 02:21 PM
Hey Asatira - sketch is a great start ... but remember the theme for this challenge is 'Dynamic Viewpoint' so try to imagine your Spidey in 3D space and you move your view of him around to find a really dynamic angle! This could also be achieved by putting a really dynamic background in with 1 or 2 point perspective. With your Spidey his right arm (to our left) looks to be dislocated from his shoulder or he has a strange bulge between his shoulder blades.
Here is a quick paintover to show what I mean - I've also added an idea of how to give this pic the dynamic viewpoint :)
