Contour Drawing Help

Hoy all --

This'll be my first post. Wasn't sure, exactly, where it should go but made an educated guess.

We were asked to do some blind contour drawing in one of my classes and am having serious troubles with it. My professor and others have told me that it can be a rather important asset to an artist and I'm interested in improving. I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions or hints? It's rediculous how awful I am at it. lol.

lol. I've changed my signature, now. I do hope this one fails to offend. I can't see how it would, though I suppose if you're a communist you may be able to squeeze some negativity out of it. Both quotes were from the same movie.

teachers forcing you to look.

so if you close your eyes you see the model
some times i use a black chalk board in my imagination.
i close my eyes and draw the model on the board.

plus i find the edges of my board or paper.

since i draw from the feet upwards i know where i am
on the board.
the teacher doesnt care if you make a mistake
probably be in shock if you hit it.
the whole idea is to stop you from drawing
and start looking before you draw.

just a exercise like vocal training for a singer.

milton glazer says if i can see it i can draw it.

meaning he sees the whole thing in his head first
before he puts pen to paper.

that why alot of us we do thumbnails and squiggles to
pull the figure out of the page.
