View Full Version : Tuition Question

So I got my acceptance letter last week and wanted to be sure I understand the tuition properly.
From looking at it, and assuming I make it into the 30-month program, I will most likely end up doing
30 payments of $1,500 each month = $45,0000
And then from the F.A.Q. here:
When is tuition due?
Tuition is due by May 15th but seats are limited and worthy and ready students are admitted on a first come first serve basis based on portfolio. If the facilities or program is full then students will have to apply the following year.
Referring to the bolded part, does this mean that even though I have been accepted, if I don't begin payment before a certain number of other accepted applicants do I may, "lose my seat" so to speak?
I would think that that either applies to the PODs or is simply referring to the application process and not the tuition, but I wanted to double check cause I'd hate to have to wait another year because I decided to begin payment on May 14th, haha.
So yeah, any clarification would be great. Thanks so much!

I was planning on going for the $500 per month option and because I needed to ask some questions, I sent a reply to the cookie-cutter message that made me and my $95 feel so special.
The response I got was an advertisment message about the event that was held last weekend, and that they would be back on the 15th to reply. No reply so far but that's not what's important.
What is important is if this is true. It seemed that anyone wanting to get the discount was to pay by the 15th of March. I hadn't seen the message you posted in bold.
Someone needs to answer some questions...

I got on here hoping someone had the info about this but it seems you're both in the same boat I am, I was sent the same message about the events going on and them being away for a bit, I mean I understand this is a new program but at the same time with so many people having questions something needs to be done about it, we can't just sit here in the dark everyday wondering so hopefully answers show up soon.

That's why I'm feeling a bit agitated, the fee was taken pretty fast, and I recieved my awesome answer a mere 5 days later. Yet they are taking their sweet time on giving us some info, info that IMO should have been ready beforehand.
It's not that I expect any special attention, yet, but it seems that no one has any news. And this isn't very reassuring, for all we know the whole thing might close down tomorrow and all we get is a post saying "TAD won't happen. Have a nice day."
Ok, that last phrase might be a stretch, but after having paid essentially for nothing, I expect some sort of reaction.
Really, was anyone not accepted?

I have a feeling that everything on TAD's end is a little hectic right now. I'm not sure how many people are covering the administration side -- although i do think that since no one has been getting responses that there may be a shortage in that department. I called the # that is on the last page of the application form and i got an automated message saying the voicemail box is full. Not to make any excuses for leaving us in the dark-- but we should have some patience as this is a new program and there are bound to be hiccups in the beginning.
I expected to see, at the very least, an announcement here in the forums with some more info. I've been waiting to pay the upfront 50% tuition payment and the deadline has passed. Something must be up --

Thats way I didīt pay the tuition yet..... We are not sure what will happen, Thereīs no formal payment days, and we have to expect. I seems like do not exist a plan by TAD to contact us.. I imagine that as me all of you have been waiting and just waiting, refreshing pages and losing time for this reason. I wonīt pay if I canīt see the classes program, or if I donīt know where (POD or on-line) I will attend. This situation makes me feel insecure in attend TAD. :S
I hope I am wrong.
Please TAD!! Give us a sign!!
Sorry if Iīm rude.

Yeah, I'm not really thinking CA is trying to scam us all.
With all the applicants, the scholarship announcements, SXSW, selecting the POD leaders, and arranging the whole thing I'm sure they're pretty bogged down at the moment.
So I'm not really that bothered by not getting a response right away. If we don't hear anything until May, I'd maybe get a bit more proactive about checking into the validity of things, but at the moment I'm fine with being patient. :)

They aren't trying to scam anyone, I wasn't suggesting that, it was just a figure of speech.
But, its' strikes me that not even a guideline post hasn't been made, just to keep everything in line for some time. You know, something like,
"thanks blah blah blah, you will be asked to send etc etc, we will tell you this and that and the other and by this date send in the money in the following ways 1, 2 ,3. If you have any questions please be patient and we will answer each one and by posting info in the forum in the coming weeks."
That would cover it.
The deathly silence seems like they were a...tad unprepared. :)

"a tad unprepared" made me rofl no lie but all joking yes I understand that they may be busy or backed up but still, for people like me where EVERY single dollar we get matters, spending money like this with no concrete answers yet is very concerning. I wasn't fortunate enough for any scholorships this time, that aspect I can fix by working hard to improve, but I'm also paying for all of this on my own since my parents can't help which means I have to be very careful where my money is going and I just want a little reassurance that everything is going good is all. I have faith in TAD it's just a matter of I'd like to hear something back and have that faith rewarded. Hopefully that's sooner rather than later.

Hey guys. Sorry I didn't see this thread before. I will try to answer some of the questions with some of the things I heard in Austin.
From looking at it, and assuming I make it into the 30-month program, I will most likely end up doing
Quote:
30 payments of $1,500 each month = $45,0000
There is a $500 a month option, that will take longer to pay off. but there isn't any interest.
Referring to the bolded part, does this mean that even though I have been accepted, if I don't begin payment before a certain number of other accepted applicants do I may, "lose my seat" so to speak?
No, It means that you will lose your seat if you don't pay before the 15th. All schools work this way, If you don't pay then you can't attend. Your acceptance is a guaranteed spot in TAD up to the non-payment drop date. The first come first serve message refers to the PODs.
I was planning on going for the $500 per month option and because I needed to ask some questions, I sent a reply to the cookie-cutter message that made me and my $95 feel so special.

I don't see a question in there

I think everyone was accepted. The hard part isn't getting accepted. The hard part is staying in the school, and passing your 6 month evaluations.
I've been waiting to pay the upfront 50% tuition payment and the deadline has passed. Something must be up --
I was able to get the info to pay all of the tuition up front, as were a few other people. They realized that they didn't handle the situation very well and they extended the deadline from the 10th to the 15th. I hope it's not too late for you.
I have a feeling that everything on TAD's end is a little hectic right now. I'm not sure how many people are covering the administration side -- although i do think that since no one has been getting responses that there may be a shortage in that department.
haha yeah. I get the exact same feeling. I asked scooter if he was working 15 hours a day, and he said "he, pretty much".
Thats way I didīt pay the tuition yet..... We are not sure what will happen, Thereīs no formal payment days, and we have to expect. I seems like do not exist a plan by TAD to contact us.. The curriculum has been up for a few months. http://www.theartdepartment.org/info/curr_test.html#foundations_a
I'm in the same boat about the pods. I think they are the next on the list of things to do. So hopefully that announcement should be coming soon.
and I just want a little reassurance that everything is going good is all
From what I saw in Austin, everything is going very well. They have the locations for some of the pods but they are still scoping out locations for the other 2 locations. They are going to make an announcement about POD locations when they have all 4 pods squared away. I think Jason said April 1st, I could be wrong. It also makes sense to release all of the POD locations at once. Also, they might be waiting to announce the POD student list until the POD locations are secure. Like, i would be thrilled to know that I got into the Austin POD, but it doesn't really do me any good until I know where I will be so I can drive up there and start scouting out apartments.
I know that the guys were going to be checking out their top locations in Austin after SXSW was over.

I'm sure that I am missing some things. But I hope this helps a little bit.

Hehe, I meant all the questions that were generally being and would
be asked. :)
It's cool you posting all that you know. Thanks for that man. I still wish
we could have some word on the suggested time of study. For instance
I applied for 24 months, I'd like to know exactly what TAD's view is on
that, you know.

Line, what do you think the impression that you are making on the faculty is? You might know that in the business classes, personal branding and outward projection are two areas of study which are required for long term success nowadays. If you choose to be the artist who throws jabs and elbows at faculty then that may not get you the same results as one who just asks directly and is diligent until the question is heard.
Regarding your comments, we surely will be more productive staying away from sideways barbs and jabs do not get business or artwork done. One of the keys to success is constructive and kind communication. If you are to study with me, please keep that in mind. Really. You will see many relationships maintained as you grow in your path if you choose to be respectful.
If anyone is needing information I am happy to be that source. It does take time as I spend about eight hours a day answering emails right now on top of the school business. I always hope I do not miss anyone. But do, please, reach me directly with a question. We are reworking the information on the website so that many of the questions are better answered there as well.
If you want to be sure you reach someone just cc infoATtheartdepartment.org. Mine is jmanleyATtheartdepartment.org. If I make an error and miss a message, I am sorry for such. However, always feel free to tap me again even the next day. cc infoATtheartdepartment.org (our admin), who is highly organized and able will be sure I get it.
Cool?
With that said, the POD update is as follows. We have KC, SF (the new facility has been final and running for many months), and Richmond handled. The Richmond open house is actually this Friday. Comes so fast!!! Check the info by backing up one click and checking out the open house thread. I love seeing progress. Austin will be announced shortly.

Also, we are extending the early tuition signup discount a few more days as there are some folks who have had challenges due to international payment. This goes for everyone. Unless something changes to extend again I expect it will end on the 26th of this month when tuition will go up.
I hope that is helpful to folks.

Hey Jason relax, I think you misunderstood the tone in my posts , I wasn't being offensive nor disrespectful, I dunno in what state you were when you read the posts and I know hard work can affect us when we read a message.
I was trying to come across as lighthearted as possible. I have had some anxiety true, but my mood was far from what you describe, no one else seemed to feel that way. I wouldn't like the faculty to feel I was jabbing, because I wasn't, and on the other hand I wouldn't like it if the faculty were so easy to take my words the wrong way. It's a two-way street, and ultimately you learn a person by interaction. You'll see.
Also, I know you guys are working on the whole deal, that's why I haven't sent another message than the one I sent last week. I don't want to fill up your mailbox and be a pain just so I can get my answers now. I have inhuman patience and I know that you will either get back to me in time or that what I need will be answered in the forums. I have clients that owe me money and I don't give them heat, why would I do it to you, or to TAD?
Yet you have to admit that you guys left us hanging a while there, so some agitation is expected and it wasn't all that serious either. We're cool.
So all in all, just relax, no one is here by force and I wouldn't be looking at this particular part of the forums or would I have purchased any videos of yours had I felt that it wasn't worth it. I'm interested in this that's why I'm here. And by this, that means the people also, from the first teacher to the last student.
