TEAM CHOW III: PENCIL GURUS
I've included the two links provided by the forums for tarot reference first:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/
Here is some reference I collected for strength and a possible celtic tie-in for the overall continuity of our designs... Cernunnos is the celtic god of strength, so perhaps I'll start concepting something with him.
Also... note the little design at the top right of my sketch page, a possible Pencil Guru icon for our group, it seems other groups are doing it, we might want to consider doing the same to use as a design stamp as well, just a thought.

Here is some additional process for the princess of swords. I like the compisition of the last concept, I think I want to carry it through pending approval.

Here is what I'm working on for the cards "Empress" and "King of Swords".
For the King of Swords I used the reference already provided by my partner that he used for "Strength". I'm toying with the idea that the King of swords is a mythical being. Not sure how it will turn out but I like the idea of him having six arms, giving him the ability to wield six swords. Truly a king of swords.
For the Empress I wanted to work in more of an Art Deco form, how this will be cohesive with the king I'm not sure, still exploring.
Any way, I had this idea to reference Egyptian clothing since this a motif most commonly found in Art Deco circa 1920's - 1940's.

More process, revamped Princess of Swords and Strength to better follow the futuristic art deco style we discussed last week.

OK, so I decided to stay away from making the King of Swords a 6 armed creature. But who knows, we may come back to that.
Keeping to the Art Deco look I designed an armored suit that our king would ride in when going into battle. It took me a few tries before I came to one that I was happy with. I figured to set him apart from the rest of the group, his suit should look much different. The robot to the far left would be the normal suit worn by the soldiers.
There isn't much left to design on him, just tweeks here and there.

Finished the bottom portion of the king.
Also drew up a different configuration for the torso and helmet.

Dewey : diggin' the robot designs you've got goin'. Futury-art deco : accomplished ;) I hope you end up including the soldier-version in the final card as having a few of these around will help in setting the king apart. I personally would like to see more of a crown though, maybe something as simple as a design painted/gilded onto the chest for instance.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like it.
I actually plan on putting the soldier version in the final illustration.
Its been something Miticis and I have been discussing. They might make an appearance in more than just one card.
I was looking for more of subtle que that indicated he is king (hence the light crown), I was afraid to put any king of royal insignia on him . I'm still trying to figure it out but I do appreciate the feed back. :)

My current process on Strength. Im not sure if I want to make the character a cyborg with an organic torso, or a full robot yet.

Nice work Miticis,
I would stay with the latter of the three.
I don't think the the cyborg will work here.
That final piece also looks a lot more animated than the first two.
Also I like the idea that the character for "Strength" is this smaller looking robot.
Good job. The design reminds me of the robot from "Lost in Space"
Are you going to have moving parts under the glass dome?

These are my "thumbnails" for the final illustrations.
I'm not really happy what I have for the king but time is against me and I need to hurry and finish these up.
The Empress seemed to really come together for me in the sketching process, so Im hoping this one will really shine on the final.
Anyway, back to the drawing board to finish these up and then I off to bed.

Holy crap, the time is ticking away.
I don't know if I will get finished but I will kill myself trying.
Im off to go finish the pencils for my King of Swords.
