Hope you guys like the logo I've been playing with.
Soup, hope you don't mind me hijacking your self portrait.
Seaport sorry I couldn't find any selfportrait or image of you so atm I just
have a silhouette filler.
ok So as far as the team chow goes if I'm right the cards we have picked
are
Charlie -
5 of cups
9 of cups
Gavin -
The Hermit
Judgment
Adam -
5 of wands
The Magician
Sorry if I got any names wrong or anything. Anyway I'm going to start
working on my cards and hopefully get some sketches up soon.
Later,

That's an awesome Banner Adam your team looks like it's going to be pounding out great works just wanted to say good luck.

Ha ha that's a great banner, I'll have to knock up a quick portrait for it :teeth:
I've started on the 5 of cups, apparently the title of this card is the Lord of Loss in Pleasure
http://www.paranormality.com/tarot_five_of_cups.shtml
So I'm running with the idea of loss in pleasure and after trying a few ideas I'm considering going with the one below. Traditionally I think 2 or 3 of the cups are knocked over, so I thought having the woman emptying these cups of their contents would be interesting twist. Thinking about having a stained glass window in the background (should make for some cool lighting), maybe with a cup motif and the other 2 cups arrayed around her on the pool edge. Then some statues/columns to go either side, perhaps some kind of fountain? broken instruments and other stuff spurned and cast aside.....
Anyway I'll pop down the cast rooms at the V&A this afternoon for some inspiration...shame my camera doesn't turn up till next week...

Nice start on the 5 of cups. :confident
I've been playing around with the comp for 5 of wands "The Lord of Strife"

we should really decide on a genre/style we want to go for our cards so we
can be consistent throughout.
Any ideas?... High Fantasy, Cyberpunk, Steampunk, Western, Historic Fiction,
Post-Apocalyptic, etc... Anyone have a preference or suggestion?

January 4th, 2010, 12:03 PM
Hey nice sketch, great movement and lighting.
Hmmm to be honest I wasn't too worried about being consistent in in genre/style between our cards (I wasn't even thinking about keeping my 2 cards similar in genre), though if people feel its important I can certainly play along, its still early days so happy to change :)

Its cool with me to keep the over all theme of our cards kind of loose especially
at this stage. I was just thinking that our final entry will look better and more
like a cohesive group if all the cards look like they could have come from the
same tarot deck. For example it would look kind of funny if we had a Gandolf
ripoff on one card, then a spacemarine festooned with chainguns and plasma
rifles on the next one. However as long as the cards don't clash to much we
should be able to have a fairly wide amount of variety in the individual illos.
Which, now that I think about it, it might be best for us to just sketch out a
few things first and see what comes out of it rather than try to make a hardline
decision atm. <shrug> We can always pull our images together as we find things
that work. :teeth:

Really great start boyz! Very accurate sketches with good anatomy. Nice fight scene with the wands!
I keep one of my eyes on you ;)

Yeah thinking about it, it is team chow, be more interesting if it did all sort of gel, especially in genre...
If we're going for a genre (I reckon we should) then I would quite like to sort of settle on it as soon as possible as there are things that work say in cyberpunk that would not translate well say into fantasy
Looking through your list, Post-Apocalyptic is the one that strikes me like it could be a lot of fun, a little unusual and gives us quite a lot of scope, heck if we're really clever we could find our own reason for the collapse of civilisation from Global warming to a mutated swine flu zombie outbreak etc
There's a list of famous films with this theme here,
http://www.thoughts.gr/?p=149
covering Dawn of the dead, Tank Girl , Terminator: Salvation, Mad Max even the Matrix falls under this category throughout a lot of the film, would give us plenty of scope.....

Awesome! post-apocalyptic is cool with me. That will give us lots of room to
play around, and sort of fits our team name to boot. :P
Unless Gavin has a huge objection I say lets rock us some after the bomb
(or mutated swine-gorilla flu/climate change/alien robot invasion/zombiepocalypse/etc...) :teeth:

Adam : Nice composition for the battle in 5 of wands with the light from behind. Fight scenes are cool, give you an opportunity to work some exaggerated movement and all. I'ld suggest trying to move the person being whacked over the head a little so that he/she doesn't hide so much of the "main" character though. It sorta takes the focus away from him at the moment I find. Then again if you have the "whacker's" legs continuing below the flying-body, then he occupies a respectable portion of the card and the issue should solve itself ;)
Cool, alright good luck guys !

Well... sadly we have lost Soupandbutter due to unexpected computer
troubles,... but this is a harsh wasteland to survive in and all we can do is
push on... or get off the road... hehe :P
Gavin, hope you get up and running again soon and that you are able to
salvage anything of importance. Take care maybe we will see you next
time around.
Charlie, 5 of cups is coming along nicely... are the cups all going to be the
same or are you going to vary them a bit... I was just thinking it might be
more interesting to have a variety of containers that could be salvaged
and used to represent cups or chalices. Anyway just a thought.
Oh are you going to stick with 9 of cups or do you think you might want to
take either one of The Hermit or Judgment cards Gavin was going to do?
Trevor, thanks for saying so... email is incoming.
I've been working on a design for the Magician character decided to
throw in some more high-tech bits seemed like it would fit the idea of a
post-apocalyptic magician to me...

I'm going to work on some compositions for the card of the Magician next,
maybe refine the characters in the 5 of wands a bit. :teeth:

Sorry to hear about Soup but as you say the wasteland is a hash mistress, still we only have to do 4 images now ;)
Magicians looking great headpiece is very cool and love the laminated identity card, it's a really nice touch. Is the jacket and the cloak connected/one? its just a bit hard to read around her hip/arm area at the moment
Yea not sure about the cups I like your idea of the containers, the only problem then is how easy they are to spot as cups/chalices. On the cards all the cups are the same type so I was going for dirty and dented enamelled tin mugs (stuff you find in army surplus places) horrible things but pretty indestructible.
Palette hmmm been thinking about this, do you reckon its worth using a similar palette to tie our entries together or at least finding a common environment colour scheme? Like 'Mad Max' was desert/sandy, 'The Road' is grey and desaturated etc.....

Doing one of the hermit or judgement cards is pretty tempting especially the hermit but I think I'll stick to the nine of cups, feel free if you want to swap though :)

I love all of your character designs. The clothing and gears look very post apocalyptic so good job on that front.
I would love seeing the dynamic style of teh wands card as a cohesion factor. I think it would look awesome if all characters were in a very active pose.
Seaport
January 17th, 2010, 08:57 AM
Thanks for the comment Janos, that's a good idea shame its a bit late to change (ok mainly I'm just too lazy :) ) though on second thoughts it would be a bit hard to convey the mood of sorrow with an active pose hmmm I'll have to have a think........
Heres a bit more with a bit of colour added, (must do the hands) had some problems with the car wreck on the left but pretty pleased now with how its come out so far..

Well I was going to tell Daestwen to put Judgment and the Hermit back up for grabs since Soup had to bow out but today I was struck with inspiration so here is a wip on Judgment hmmmm finishing 4 card in 9 days?... I better stop typing...

Thanks Soup, still a shame your pc died but looks like Adams picking up the slack :)
Judgement's looking great, really sweet action. I think the second version where you've flipped her looks better, have you thought about movng the overall composition to the right a bit?
Interesting idea for the hermit, the dead forest around him's a cool touch.

January 30th, 2010, 12:00 PM
Hmmm not much time left, anyway here's my 9 of cups, hope to get it finished tomorrow...
The idea is that the cups are represented by those Fragile symbols you get on the side of boxes for electrical goods. The characters having a sale of his pre-apocalypse artefacts all stacked up in boxes (who knows TV might still work somewhere)

Seaport I love the idea for 9 of cups can't wait to see the finished piece.
Personally at the moment I'm hoping for either a miracle or that Daestwen
gives an extension on the deadline which ever comes first.
I've gotten some more done. Its not going as fast as I would like though.
Anyway thought I would throw up updated wips for Judgment and the
Hermit since they are the ones that are moving along the best atm.
