Computer illiterate artist needs help

Hey guys.. i just found this friggin awesome sight yesterday and i noticed that "painter *6/7/8/etc*" is mentioned. I am a very computer illiterate noob who needs some info on this program. now, my computer i am using at the moment has CorelDraw10 and Corel PHOTO-Paint 10... will i be able to achieve the same effects/techniques with these programs? thanks.

Painter's most well loved and outstanding feature is simulating traditional media.. acrylics, oils, watercolor, pens, pencils, charcoal, pastels, chalk, and others. It's the most advanced program in this area. It's a great program for artists, and offers lots more besides its Natural Media® brushes.

The current version is Painter 8 and you can download a 30 day trial version at:

The trial version won't allow you to copy or save but if you do an image you like, you can always do a screen capture, though it won't be high enough resolution for anything but viewing on the Web. Still, it's nice to be able to see what you've done.

thx again for the info, the links especially. I didn't realize that this program was so expensive! :eek: but it seems well worth it, with the work i've seen many others do. I'm downloading it right now, and once i get my scanner up i should be ready to rock... i'll post my first pic today i think :)
