Welcome, new CA'ers.

This is a thread to say hello if you want, we're happy to welcome you to the forum.

We're currently working on getting the info threads up here as stickies to explain more on how this forum works and how to move around in here, but for now we got:

An introduction for showing your works in CA, how to upload, etc. (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=175454)

Where to start out finding information about becoming better, finding inspiration and our regular activities. (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=175485)

If you have made yourself a hello thread in this forum you might see that it's "moved" here, that means we've merged it into this thread, as we prefer to keep the hellos in one place. There tends be quite a few people joining at all times, so we'd soon be overrun by hello threads if everyone made them. :)

It might be a better idea to create an SB or go to the CC and WIP forum to show your work than posting it here, which you can find out how to do in that first link I posted, you'll probably not get any feedback of importance in this thread.

Hope you're enjoying your stay and finding lots of information and gorgeous art to feast your eyes on while you're here. :)

Hello, I'm a Senior at Kendall College of Art and Design, majoring in Illustration with a minor in Graphic Design. I'm here at ConceptArt.org, to get inspiration and well needed feed back. I'm just getting into Digital Art and would love to make it as a Concept Artist what ever way I can. Thanks for having me, and I hope to get to talk to all of you more as time goes on.

My name is Chris as it shows, and im graduating from the Art Institute of Seattle in Spring 2010. Im new to this site, whereas i registered in 2006 but i didn't post anything due to suffering mental illness and some bad critiques from a teacher at the Ai who said that CA.org was pretty much a "me too, me too" site. Like everyone just wanted to be like everyone else which swayed my interest so i didn't come on to post anything for a long time.

I have been receiving emails from CA for a while and i would just delete them but i got tired of deleting them so i decided i would come back and find out if CA really had something worth my time. A friend of mine was suggesting that i do what my soul desires, which is to become a better environment artist and draw/paint architecture in perspective as concept art so i felt i came to the right place.

Another thing that kept me from being here which makes it difficult to naviagte is having to deal with reading the CA site with a screen reader called Natural Reader software which turns text into spoken audible voice which is nice to follow along especially when im trying to focus and concentrate due to my illnesses.

My intention for saying hi was to ask if CA was a place i could get help with architecture drawings/paintings to perfect and progress as a better painter. I didn't know if i could do it so im asking because a lot of the images on the front screen show pictures of portraits or vehicles but not much architecture. Is this CA place where i can get help with this sort of critique or do i have to go somewhere else?

Something else that also kept me from CA was the sheer timid fear of showing my BABY which may be poor and not well drawn, or i want it to look a certain way, but it does not due to my inexperience and inability to make my hands work the way i can see it in my mind; but then put it online and show everyone to get criticism and help when because of my illness it feels like people are yelling at me and it was hard to deal with. But i feel im more able to accept help no matter what happens. I just have to realize its my work, not my personality or my essence of my being.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I will soon open my Sketchbook and initiate it.
By the way, I'm 17 years old.

Hi Everyone, I am not new to Concept Art, just renewed so to speak.
I live in South Fla, I used to be able to draw is my quote now cause Domesticated life is capable of stealing away lots of inspiration and the part of your brain you need in order to do it, along with stress. i have the itch to start again, i have dabbled in many different types of art since I was a young punk, I am good at whatever it is I try to do, but when it comes to drawing or sketching, I really have to be in the moment, free of distractions and chaos, which is where my Ipod touch and ignoring some of the stuff I am supposed to be doing comes in handy, I just posted my 1st DSG..sunlit alien forest, tell me what you think, it was not sketched out first and it does have some styles in it, I am practicing sketching, I need serious help with faces and perspective, I am actually pretty good at drawing what I see, like hands & feet..go figure(they r usually hard) but be nice when you crit, I am vulnerable right now...however seeing all this art in here is helping with the inspiration once again. Ciao

Holy hell I'm scared.

Ok, not really.

Hello everyone, I'm new here (another fresh one out of devart but I'm not gonna scream "omg I have zillions of pageviews so I am teh internets personified) and ironically I came upon this site after reading two separate Encyclopedia Dramatica articles about the bad artists (in term of personality) who have come here and bothered what seems like a very professional, very mature art forum.

My name is Sara, but you can call me Pencils, since that's what I like using as a medium. I'm 19 and I am in love with Mucha's work and Art Nouveau as a whole. I strive to get that flow, color, and detail into my work which is why I'm here. I'm also trying to get into college as an Illustration major. Would've gone with Graphic Design, but it's not my cup of tea.

I'm not afraid of criticism, and I am wholly prepared to get ripped to shreds because I have not come far with my art or style in years due to art blocks, personal issues, and the dreaded CARPAL TUNNEL. I'm not gonna cry, I'm not gonna run and hide. I may grumble, but I know everyone on this forum is dedicated wholly to helping everyone improve as long as they breathe and can hold a pencil/paintbrush/tablet pen.

So let the fun begin!

Hello all..

I have been called a concept artist by other people, so thats why I am here. I do pencil/graphite/charcoal/pastel work of a fantasy/pagan/celtic nature.

I also do regular stuff.. :blah: anyways I have been drawing since...errmmm 1991 or thereabouts, sporadically at best seeing as life sometimes gets in the way - read: kids, dogs, farming etc... I am 36, and will update my profile soon. Promise ;)

Hello all!

I joined a couple days ago, and I'm reallllly green. I started my sketchbook, but I need to churn out some more content.

I really enjoy sketching and shading in graphite. I love Photoshop and Illustrator!

I think my weakest aspects are color implementation and human proportions :er:

I'm pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in New Media and start classes in Maya and ZBrush next semester.

It's nice to meet you all.

My art consists of a more cartoony style and I have some trouble with coloring and was hoping I could possibly be guided somewhat into a more detailed, maybe softer coloring skill.

Hello everyone.
My name is TJ, I am 20 years old from Calgary, Alberta. I am currently enrolled in my first year at the University of Saskatchewan, still figuring out what it is I want to major in.
I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil, always been a passion of mine. In elementary and junior high school I would fill a sketch book every year, in high school I took art classes but I didn't get along with my teacher, and after high school I had a number of jobs that didn't really allow me to support my sketching, so it diminished for a while, only drawing every once in a while.
But recently I have been trying to draw more and more, and it felt like a good environment here to showcase my work, so I decided to join. Many of you are FANTASTIC artists, and I really look forward to seeing more of your work, and showing you mine.
All the best to everyone.

Hey there everybody!

I'm Mathias and I live in Denmark.
The reason why I joined this site is because, well, I was searching for an Art-community/forum that I could join. Actually, I draw my first(serious) sketch, in about 2 years, a month ago. Don't get me wrong, I love painting and drawing, there has just been so many other things to do in the last couple of years. The reason way I began drawing again is the fact that I've(finally) made up my mind; I wanna become an Industrial Designer. For that I need to polish/train my skills. So I thought, what would be a better place to start out than joining a community who could give me useful response on my work? So, there you have it, I'm here to learn.(and of cause give something back to the community in terms of my own humble opinions on the fantastic art in here)
Btw, I will buy a Wacom Intuos4 tablet soon(first tablet ever), so watch out for n00b questions!

Cheers,
MathiasDK

Hello CA!

First off i would like to thank everyone here for just being awesome, i joined not long ago, and my experience has been nothing but awesome. Everyone here is helpful, the crtiques tear your stuff apart, but in a good way, never mean, everyone here is just awesome.

I joined a few short months ago, i cant remember how i found this place, just random chance, and had not posted since a few weeks ago, busy with school. Right now im just lurking the forums, trying to give whatever input i can to be helpful =).

I am 20 years old, and am attending school to get a degree in concept design. I have not seriously drawn until about 2 years ago, Art was always told to me to be a foolish career. But i always loved it so much, so said screw it, im doing it! Im loving it now, and only regret i didnt not do this sooner =)

I mostly work in pencil sketches and grey scale digital, colour has always been intimidating, but i am working on improving that portion of my art, and DA has been a great teacher and inspiration.

Thanks you guys for being so great to a a Newbie (in every sense of the word XD) like me, i hope to get some stuff on here soon! (though mostly sketches, i suffer from nevercompleteanythingitius)
And im always avaible to drop a line to if i comment on something of yours or something, my aim is in my profile XD

Hi everybody :)
I'm (obviously) new here, although I've been lurking around for quite a few weeks. By the way, I'm always logging out automatically every few minutes and it's quite irritating. Is there anything I could do against it? Because I don't think it should be like this.

Anyway, back to topic ... there's actually not much to say about me; I'm 17 and still at school, but I'll graduate in March.
I just got my first graphire tablet and feel a little ... incompetent ... but I still hope that this is normal.
However, this sketchbook-subforum looks quite interesting so I hope it's not too pushy to go and post there right after registering.

Hello to all!

I'm 5000 but you can call me either 5000 or ...5000. That's 5 with three zero number digits, not O letters just incase if anyone wants to clarify it all up. Before you ask me why I picked 5000 as my name, I had no idea what to call myself on here and I liked numbers so that's how I came to that name. Besides, 5000 had enough characters to satisfy minimum requirements of the username.

I know I'm new here and I hope this is the right community for me to learn about art from other artists and to succeed as an artist. We'll see how that one goes.

Sincerely,

5000.

Hey all,

I've peppered the forum with replies before, and just started my own sketchbook thread... but have yet to say hello to fellow CA members!

You can call me merry; I studied multimedia design in college, dabbling with medias from acrylics, flash animation, flash actionscripting, websites, video, motion graphics, 3D and graphic design. Came out of college really confused as to what to do; because it was the whole jack of all trades and master of none situation. I'm personally very interested in illustration, and I've decided to concentrate on that and 3D as well. Currently I'm working as a tutor in my college, teaching/helping out in 3D modeling classes.

Mostly I've been a lurker in CA... there are so many amazing artists here and it can be pretty intimidating. I love looking at sketchbooks and seeing how people start off shaky and progressing to be more awesome. I hope to be able to learn from their passion, hard work and determination!

Cheers, all!

I first joined way back in 2006, but I never really visited this forum since then, and I forgot my password (and my email account) since then. So now I started a new account (hope that's not a problem), and I'm looking forward to post new works and improve my skills.

P.S.: Wasn't there here a directory called CA Academy with learning plans and all sorts of tutorials?

Hi I'm Tobey.
A nineteen year old pupil from Germany.

Four or Five years ago I started to work with Photoshop. Just making some Banners, Avatars an all that things for me and friends. Later manipulating my photos and til now I gathered a lot of experience with PS. That's why it makes me sad, that I can't afford a GraphicTablet :S
Well...
I have a huge passion for art as well as most of all members here.
Found this site one or two years ago and was lurking from there on in different sketchbooks ;)
Now I had the courage to sign up here with strong will to improve my skills.
So I wish to get some constructive criticism and maybe some tips and hints, too.

See you :yayca:

Hey everyone

My name is Justin, I'm 21 years old graphic designer living in Savannah, GA. I just recently became interested in drawing through my art history studies in college. I don't have a background in traditional art, but I decided to minor in illustration to challenge myself to learn something that I've always wanted to do.

I'm having a lot of fun teaching myself classical drawing, and I hope to learn a lot from all of the amazing artists lurking around here.

I mainly use pencils and mostly draw portraits, but i also love photography, painting, scratch board and anything else i can get my hands on lol. nice to meet you all.

Hello everyone,

I'm Alyssa, a 24 year old college graduate that lives in NYC, US. Sadly, I am currently unemployed, but occasionally freelance on the side which relates to my career: Graphic and website design.

In my sudden shift to be more artistic, understand more of the basics, and envelope myself in a new passion, I decided to seek a more actual artistic outlet - even if its for my own kicks. I don't have much, if any at all, traditional training, but I do dabble in digital forms (trying to learn the basics through that), and sometimes do a few 3D work.

Advertising, which is so common in this city, just isn't for me. So, I'm hoping that one day, I can live my dream of being a concept artist for a game or entertainment company. Until then, I'll keep learning and pouring out the designs. Happy to be here, love this community so far, and looking forward to meeting you all :)

Hello, my name is DJ. I just recently joined, but have been viewing this website for close to a year and a half.

I was "drawn" to the site by the artwork of one of the artists here named Andrew Ley. I saw his work posted in another forum I frequented. I clicked through to the CA site here and it opened me up to a whole new level of art I hadn't really been privy too before.

I'm a graphic artist by trade, but I also love to create imagery, opposed to merely manipulating it.

I've recently decided to get serious about my artwork. I've purchased a Wacom Bamboo and have begun experimenting with digital painting. The CA site here and all the wonderful artists have really inspired me.

I hope to be posting my work here soon so I can get some feedback on what I'm doing right and what I can do better.

Thank you for this site. As I said it really is inspiring.

~Regards

Hello folks. Been a lurker around this place for awhile but just now getting the guts to join since I can't seem to find much help in other locations. Came across it by random while browsing around DA. I'm just here to for assistance in getting my work out of this pretty much "stale/stagnant" era that it's been in for a few years now.

21, Ohio, Junior at Columbus College of Art & Design (now seeming like a huge waste of money after 3+ years...) and Animation then Illustration major with minor in Writing.

Just want to push my work to a quality that actually gets close to my expectation rather than sitting at the bottom of the barrel as it has.

Ahhh right, hi guys, I'm Josh, I'm 18. I'm from England, and I've recently finish college. I joined a while ago but haven't had time to do anything, and it is slightly intimidating seeing all your amazing art! I took graphic design at college, which was more geared towards advertising than art. So I'll make my excuses now, aha I have no real training in illustration apart from what I've taught myself, I was an A student in art at school, I took graphics because I knew it would be be the best option job wise. But then I discovered concept art and fell in love!

I need all the advice you can give me, please, seriously, ALL the advice. I will eventually get some art up, so you can all have a good laugh!

My name is Carlos and I am a 19 year old college student from the United States. Just came to the forum to get advice and critique on all the work I will be posting up. I hope to have a great time on this site.

Hello conceptart members!

I really love this forum, in here is so much stuff of wich I could say "wooow. awesome. crazy. I want to draw, now!"

First of all I need to say I did some Logos, Artworks etc. for my bands. I play guitar in a band but we're today in the start-up phase.

Sometimes I tried to do some merchandise-designs and some other things for musicians.

But what i want is getting better and better in drawing and painting.

I think in the next few days I am going to scan some of my works to show them to you.

Best wishes and merry xmas next week!

Hey everyone!

I'm Kevin, I’m 22 and I study Graphic Design: Game design in the PHL in Hasselt (Belgium).
I've been interested in game design for many years and although I've been part of a lot of mod and indie game projects I still have a LOT to learn. Somehow I've always managed to get involved in many projects without being very skilled in anything. Still, I learned a lot in the past years.

I had my own Dutch game design community for 3 years, made a couple of mods for Morrowind, I started and managed a HL2 mod called Western Revenge (unfortunately we never finished it). I was part of a Belgian game magazine crew for a couple of months (Gunk Magazine) and I was part of the Development team of the indie MMO game 'Infinity The Quest for Earth' as a texture artist.
I learned a lot in those years but I was never satisfied with what I could, I didn’t have the feeling I was evolving so that’s why I decided to go to Hasselt and study Game design.

Right now I'm taking my first steps in 3D (Maya) and I just bought a wacom tablet so I'm finally starting with digital 'painting'. I have almost no experience with 3D and digital painting so I have a lot to learn. I hope I can get some tips and tricks on this forum and learn from the best :)

Hey, I'm new. I'm just an amateur artist, but I really do love art and I intend to keep on going with it as a side hobby. At the moment I'm sort of stuck between drawing average-quality manga style (what can I say, it helps me unwind) and doing reasonably good realism with pencil and my figure drawings are best with pencil, slim charcoal (is there a name for that?) and pen, since I prefer finer tips to work with.

Nothing much else to say, other than even though I sort of dislike hearing constructive criticism (I imagine a lot of people do) I still want to hear it if I ever do start posting up some of my more serious stuff.

Shadowheart

Word up, dawgs.

I'm Shadowheart. IIIIIIII'm not exactly new here; joined -months- ago, but I didn't think that my art skills and whatnot were at a level to be presented here at this sort-of elitest-looking place. Considering that 80% of my artwork is fanart anyway, but I like taking subjects and modifying them into a different sort of style, and I use it to experiment in what sort of art style I could be most comfortable with. At the moment I'm currently trying to achieve something painterly.

I haven't studied art, but its been one of the few things I've honestly been interested enough in to study and improve on. I searched a lot for tutorials and e-books on it, run the gamut of trying to improve by joining an art site (DA) and eventually learning about this place where I could get some honest critic on my work (as long as the subjects wouldn't be such an issue). My interests lies more around concept art, making creatures and characters.

Well anyway, nice to meet you guys.

Yig
December 22nd, 2009, 12:24 AM
Hi. I'm Yig.

I've been drawing since I would hold a crayon, it's come naturally to me for the most part. I've always meant to do it for a living, but things don't always work out how you mean them to. I sort of stopped drawing when I hit 18-20, and feel like I've been in limbo.

I've started drawing again, but I feel sort of ten years behind where I should be. I am almost 30 now, just turned 29. I have terrible times with motivation and drive. I really think I'd be better off going to an art school if only for the environment of drive and inspiration. I just don't know,.. all I know is I view everything from the viewpoint of a creator. I want to give people experiences, engineer, ergonomic improvement, argh.
I feel like one of those points in life that decides my path is near, it's time for me to take the plunge.

Hey y'all. I'm Adam. I used to have a crap load of aliases and things like that but I think from now on I'm going to just use my real name - and do my best to make artwork that I'm not embarrassed to have attached to it.

I would like to buckle down, focus, and learn the fundamentals of good drawing, and worry about style and my own voice later as I finally catch up to all my peers who didn't waste time procrastinating. Hopefully my time here will help me with that, and maybe I can share a thing or two that I know. I have some experience with traditional animation.

Hi, my name is Jake. I'm twenty-two years old and live in Columbia Missouri.
I've spent the last three and a half years working toward my BFA Degree (with a focus in drawing and a supporting area of painting) at Columbia College, and in a year I will graduate. Ninety-five percent of the art I produce is medium/large traditional media as that is what's approved by the fine arts professors. When I was younger I did a lot of amateur comic books and became pretty well acquainted with using Photoshop 7 to elaborate line drawings, although when my hard drive failed several months ago, I lost Photoshop (still can't find the key) and the art I made with it.
This website was recommended to me by another student because I love concept art and will soon enough have to turn my degree into a job, so I'd like to beef up my portfolio and work towards applying my degree to a profession.

I have absolutely no education on art, Middle or High School and my life is way to hectic to try and go to school for it. I have already learned a lot just by looking at others artwork and i hope to learn more as well as find information on the possibilities of a career with only self taught education.

Hey there!

I been lurking around for a few weeks now and finally decided to register. This is a wonderful community that I hope I can be a constructive part of. I'm 19, going for an AA degree in Digital Design at a community college, but I can't decide if I want to go to an actual art school. Relatives tell me I should, then other relatives tell me there's no money in art. Seeing things on this site has changed my views about that last statement. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out which direction I want to go!

Cheers!

I'm 16 and I'm from France, I always used to draw and I got a wacom tablet some days ago and I thought it was the appropriate moment to sign up here.

See ya !

Are You An Artist Wo Likes To Draw Erotic Pictures With A Sci-Fi Perspective? Want More Exposure?!? For Free? If So We Want You!

After the success of the publication Fantasy Erotic Art, The book's publisher ILEX given me the task of compiling artists for a book highlighting Sci-Fi Erotic Art. All interested artists should send a single piece of compatible artwork in order to be included this new volume.

As well as pictures featuring the female form it would be good to get a little bit of space beefcake as well for the gay/female readership. The general rule of thumb for selecting images is (ideally) full colour and we should keep to “taste and decency” parameters ie, nipples OK, occasional female full frontal ok, no penises, certainly no erections!

As ever with publishing art, the golden rules are:

1. It must never have been published in another art book (Spectrum, Ballistic Publishing, or an artist's published sketchbook).
2. It must have been created in the last 18 months.
3. They must own the publishing rights to the artwork.

Each artist will sign a document stating the above. We already have a template for this. Without signing it we won't be able to include your artwork.

This is a great chance for prolonged exposure for upcoming and established artists alike. Along with the artwork you must attach a 150 word caption, ideally explaining your inspiration, methods and thoughts, plus a 500 word introduction.

The Format for the written pieces is as follows:

Title
Creator(s) name(s)
Materials used (i.e. magic marker on bristol board, scanned in and coloured in Photoshop 7.0)
Commentary/Background information (Ideally from the artist, but could be from me with your permission) What were your inspirations, thoughts, and what was the creative process behind the art. Plus comments on the art style, composition and themes.

In exchange we will put your website and contact details (direct or agent) in the directory at the back, so it becomes a catalogue for art directors and ad agencies. This has worked very well in the past and achieved many paying gigs for artists included in the books. Plus, you get a copy of the book.

Specs: The images need to be 247mm on the shortest side and RGB TIFFs at 300dpi.

For answering queries and to mail your submissions, email me at [email protected]

Paul

Hey all
I'm a design student and sci fi geek from Copenhagen.
One of my promises for 2010 was to join this forum to hopefully become better at drawing.
I try to maintain the rhythm of at least one sketch a day, and two per week fit for presentation. School is starting again soon and the frequency will probably drop a little bit, but that's because I'm learning some other useful things :D

Nevertheless I'm here and I'm fresh. :)

Oh, and I am into Psychedelica, Metal Hurlant, Krautrock, Philip K. Dick. That sorta thing.

I'm Darcy from California. I'm still in high school, but I'm applying for art colleges. I want to go into illustration, particularly comic books.

Hi, new person here!

I'm an animation student, although I'm also interested in illustration. A lot of my art is anime/manga-based (I'm sorry!), but I really want to improve on my figure work so that I can individualize my characters better, and also stylize it more easily (I like my manga with a touch of realism).

I'd like to be a comic artist someday. I'm really pleased to have found this place, and I hope it can help me improve.

I found this site and I was shocked to find younger people completely kicking my ass so I thought i'd join cause I want to improve and be as good as the pros some day! I'm looking forward to participate in the forums and post my art later so I can get some feedback. See you around.

January 4th, 2010, 10:02 AM
Good day, lads and lasses. My name is Zulfahmi, you may call me Fahmi. I'm 19 years old and I came from Malaysia.

I love drawing so much. I've been doodling for fun all my life without any guidance (I am nowhere near professional), only now I've begin to take drawing seriously.

Japanese style greatly influenced my drawing but I could also do caricature (Although rarely). Digital painting holds a great amount of interest in me. I'm not very good at colouring, it's my biggest weakness which I hope of overcoming.

The reason why I join this wonderful community is to seek more knowledge and to better myself in hope of achieving my dream, that is to become an excellent artist.

I hope we could all get along and had a great time together. :)
Peace.

January 4th, 2010, 12:18 PM
I'm new as of last night.

I've always dabbled in drawing, but up until I reached my 20s I drew anime almost exclusively. My fundamentals suffered. I was too stubborn to listen to my instructors. Now I'm doing studies every day as I prepare to go to Watt's atelier in California this coming fall. My hope is that I can be successful as an artist, whether I'm doing illustration or concept work or freelancing.

I'm open to criticism of course, but I'm not gonna lie. I prefer crits that are deeper than "Check your anatomy" or "draw from life more." If you see a problem with my anatomy (right now I'm specifically studying the shoulder girdle), then help me out with that particular item. If my rendering is off or my tone is too faded or weak then tell me about it.

I finally joined this place after my animation professor suggested it last semester..I've heard of the site more than a few times before, but always shied away from registering and posting stuff simply because the sheer awesomeness of other members made me discouraged at my meager sketches. But I finally decided to take the plunge. :rocker:

I'm a Junior at Bradley University with a major in Interactive Media. What I'd honestly like to do is branch out into both CG and Conceptual Art - several of the classes I'm taking right now do both at the same time. I hope to learn from you guys here and improve on my art, and possibly make some friendships within the professional community. I lean towards working on videogames, specifically MMOs because I've had the most fun with the nuances of those. I have a few online portfolios, but they're in severe need of being updated. About the only thing that remains continual is my devART page that I've updated sporadically since my sophomore year of High School.

I hope to have a sketchbook thread open soon! Thanks for takin the time to read this.

Hello there, I joined four years ago, then suddenly realized I was not even nearly as good as a jellyfish when it came to painting or drawing, and vanished into the arcanes of real life. There, I graduated in corporate communication, and started to grow a proper culture, like, reading books (without pictures) and stuff.
I hate to repeat myself but I guess 4 years is quite a long e-time and old members probably e-died without talking about me to their e-children. Plus, I posted 5 times in total, and probably only lame photoshop doodles, presented with amusing child-like english grammar little constructions, so I might be somehow completely forgotten.
pins, not Pins anymore, and certainly not P!nS, 20 years old, french, likes music, reading, platypuses.
I'll be happy to get constructive and interesting feedback as soon as I'll start pumping my scribblings into the appropriate places (for most of them it'll probably be the restrooms). I also have a deviantart account, but who doesn't nowadays (out of professional artists), and it seems I've been selling-out to öbersocialweb because I also have reverbnation for my music. You'll see, some day I'll get a facebook...
...o shi-

Anyway! Enough. Really happy to be here, see you soon!

I started my first sketchbook online a couple of days ago at http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2696792#post2696792

I am an advance beginner. That means I have learned the foundations and am now in the place to try to employ what I have learned to a painting I have been wanting to paint the particular piece I am working on for years. When I first sketched out the painting with oils I knew I did not have the skills needed to really make the painting work.

I still do not have the skills, but without practice I will never have skills. I am not even sure I am any good. But if desire and commitment mean anything, then I have a chance.

My hope is at some point folks will give me feedback. I am also trying to find the process that will help me with future paintings. Joining CA will hopefully obligate me to producing working sketches. Exposing myself to this process of creating an online sketchbook is a huge leap.

Hello all, from New Brunswick Canada!

After lurking here for awhile I've finally decided to join the forums officially. :3

I've been drawing ever since I can remember but have neglected it quite largely in the last few years. My goal is to pick back up where I left off and get back into art in a big way; in two year's time once my husband has finished school, I've decided that I want to go back... to art school!

With any luck this forum will be a source of education and inspiration for me. Cheers!

Hello,

I have no formal training, very little to no skill in drawing, and only a basic understanding of composition, balance, perspective, and design. I'm currently enrolled to start an associate’s degree in 3D Modeling. I’m not sure about anything, especially since this will be a career change from working in the IT field for almost 15 years. I have done some very basic work in GIMP, I don’t have a tablet and only use a mouse, and I’m not confident enough with my skill set. But, I’ll post a link to my terrible stuff in photobucket for everyone else to feel better about their work. :P

Hi Everyone,

Been into creating art since I was little. Had been signed up for art school, then life changed. Have taken the last 10 years off and after finding a digital painting magazine my interest has been rekindled. Found this site stumbling around the net. I'm "stalking" CA since years and I finally had the guts to join. I got to admit, all this great work here is really intimidating for newbies like me but also a great inspiration and spur to improve my pictures.

I'll open a sketchbook soon to get started here :^^:

And I also want to say: A big thank you to all those great people here that write tutorials, help with critique and post their art!

Hello everyone on CA.org,

I am a 24 year old aspiring graphic artist. Recently, I have been diligently searching for guidance and tips in order to improve my artwork, especially drawing. After perusing the forum for several days, I have found a lot of useful information.

I'm looking forward to posting more in the forum and posting a sketchbook. As well as meeting a lot of awesome, opinionated, and artistic people.

Stay tuned. ^_^

Evening folks.

Twenty year old bro here, currently going to a small art school near Austin, Texas. At this point I'm basically trying to improve my skills in just about everything, so I expect to be utilizing every resource this site has to offer.

Interests include video games, culinary arts and fitness; I'd like to think art is a given.

Be seein' y'all around.

Hi, everyone! My name's Vic. I'm a 25-year-old fantasy and game artist. Recently, I've been working on a project with some guys as a concept artist. The project leader seems to like my drawings but I'd like to refine my skills for my portfolio. I hope you all can help me with my goals of becoming a professional game artist.

I'll be posting my sketchbook soon!

Hey Guys! My name's Michelle and I've been lurking here for quite some time.
I just recently graduated from college with a major in new media, a good web/graphic design major, but I couldn't focus on the finer points of art/illustration. And that's why I'm here, to sharpen my skills once more, develop a professional portfolio, meet fellow artists and learn how they get around in the illustration industry.

I look forward to mingling with you all!

Hello, I am Tyshawn, and I may have registered about two years ago, but I never got the chance of introducing myself, seeing as though I was a hotheaded rookie back then. Like everyone else, I'm here to learn more about drawing and improve my skills.

Back then when I joined, I was an anime fan who drew nothing but anime. But I during that time, I was scolded by an artist for refusing to stop drawing anime for a while to draw realistically to improve my skills. Now that I've seen the error of my ways, I want to work as hard as I can to sharpen my pencil.

Hi!

Well, finally got around to actually posting on this forum...

Been a lurker here for years and years, and always meant to start posting and maybe get a sketchbook going, but life intervened and I got distracted by other stuff. I'm a former game designer by trade, but I suffered a horrid burnout and decided to do something else for a change, namely to pick up art once again.

Currently I'm working on comics and trying to unlearn all the bad habits I've picked up during the years I wasted on other stuff. So in other words, it's back to basics for me.

I hail from the south of africa and a in search of artistic interaction. i have been meaning to get around to using this site and have heard it is wonderful for proper crits and a place to get meaning full feedback about my art so i can get better at my attempts at it.
I've never really taken to forums, art from reading a few from time to time but i think this is a place i could get into.

....so where do i start now ? ...shall i be adding some of my work to the sketchbook section?

Hi everyone :)

I'm a complete beginner at drawing so I feel a bit out of place amongst all the talented people here.

I plan to get a sketchbook going once I get my scanner. Eventually I'd like to participate in CHOW.

Nice to meet you all!

Hi,
My name is James. I graduated with a BFA in drawing and painting in 2008 but haven't done much since then due to a bit of burnout. In the past few months I have been drawing again and decided to try my hand at digital work ( I have worked mostly with traditional media). The switch to a tablet is a bit strange but I am slowly getting the hang of it. I am looking forward to giving and receiving critiques as teaching and learning are two of my favorite things to do :)

Hello, everyone

I can finally post! on the forums. It feels like gaining my abilities to talk again.
Most likey no one is going to read this cause no one cares, but heres a little bit about myself.

I want to be a concept art. the end.

LOL no just joking. Im 21 wait 22 years old, and have decided to start a career in the arts, as to a specific field i dont know yet, but all i know is that i love to draw, Im allways with a pen of pencil in my hand, and if i see a white spot on anything i have to draw on it. Im not good yet, but im getting there. I dont want to be the best at what i do, cause most likely i wont master drawing, i want to keep on learning how to draw untill i die! wish me luck!

Hello!
I'm a weirdo from Romania who loves painting, drawing and fashion designing. I got my Cintiq 21UX in March and I'm here to discover and learn its functionality. Digital art fascinated me from the beginning, when I first saw a wonderful digital portrait. I'm working on photoshop cs4 and I'm looking forward to starting working on a 3D platform too. I hope that here, I'll find answers to my questions and of course, have a good time! :D

Hey everyone. Name's Matt, I'm 15 and from Australia. Been lurking the forums quite a bit in the last few days and the insane artistic abilities of majority of you is incredible.

Right now I am focusing on traditional sketching, although my dream right now is to become a freelance digital painter.

Hey, all. Introduction threads are always fun. My name's Chris, been a freelance illustrator on and off over the years. Mostly very small stuff, like getting a couple limited run, small press comics published. The biggest thing I've done was work used in the RIFTS collectible card game back in 2001 or so.

The past three years have been a bumpy ride, but I am currently getting back into freelance work, and also searching for work among animation and videogame studios.

I recently revamped my website ( http://www.steampowered.net ) after switching hosts and combining my webcomic and portfolio sites into a single beast. I still need to replace the HTML in the comic section, since switching hosts all the links there are broken (except the comic navigation buttons).

Also, at the urging of a couple friends I picked up a tablet PC, which immediately became my new favourite thing ever. First day I had it, I spent a few hours doodling a rough 5 second animation (http://www.steampowered.net/head_turn1.html).

Anyways, been wanting to get into an art oriented community while working on improving my skills. A few friends kept posting me links to interesting threads here so I figured I'd join up.

Hi, CA members. My name is Janel and I'm glad to finally find an active and overall awesome online art community.

I've drawn only as a past time for most of my life and am mainly self-taught. Only up to now at age 20, I have decided to take drawing more seriously as a skill I am willing to dedicate a lot of effort into. I feel like I'm starting my knowledge of drawing from scratch, since right now I'm just trying to get myself to fully understand and use the basics. I'm also currently only interested in traditional media.

I have lurked ConceptArt for all the great tips, advice, and encouragement (and great artwork of course!) for the past month. Hopefully now that I've joined, I'll be able to get all of these more personally.

See you around. Maybe I'm put up a sketchbook up.

Hi all, I'm a typical weeboo. I'm quite interested in anime/manga style art.

Because I am a weeboo.

That aside, I'm here to look at the top artists, get input and improve myself so that eventually I can become close to the top manga artists.

Hello everyone, my name is Krisjoe and I'm 24y.o, long time procrastinator first time poster. I have a degree in medical science but I am seriously thinking of going back to university and study to be an illustrator and hopefully become a concept artist, because that's the first thing I think of and do when I wake up, draw.

I have a DA account but I want to become a better artist that's why I'm here, so people can tell me how crap my work is and how to improve on it and not just give me high fives. My style is anime/manga but I want to move away from it and find my own style.

Thanks and hello again

Hello, US student here. A bit frightened by what lies ahead for me, so I thought joining here would be a great way to help myself improve. I really love drawing (have ever since I was about 5). I dream of working for some company like Valve someday!

However I must admit I am not as thrilling as my username may sound. Nor am I a wizard.

My name is Athena, and I'm the Director of an organization called Love Art House. The goal of my organization is to engage communities in arts activities, and help artists share their work.

I've joined because I want to interact with more artists, and collaborate to find ways to attract enthusiastic Arts audiences. I'm also interested in checking out artwork to share with the other artists and art lovers that my organization works with.

I am looking forward to looking around the forum and hopefully weighing in on a few discussions. Thank you very much :)

As far as experience goes... I can never get enough! I with drew from the AI due to my observations in their company structure and course design.

My favorite artists right now are kieran yanner, maciejkuciara and of course joe mad. I draw my inspiration from these awesome folks and many more.

See you around!:yayca:

I am WalkedAway (but I mostly go by the alias 'MAD').
I am 16 years old, I live in England and some day hope to become an art teacher for secondary school, or an illustrator.
I have two accounts on DeviantArt (one being a scrap account, the other being my 'main' account), but I think that in order to improve my art and learn more, get more helful critique and so on, I should come to ConceptArt to be helped by real proffessionals/almost proffessionals, so I look forward to hearing from everyone ^^
My 'style' is considered 'manga', but I would like to break from that style and study more realism, other techniques and styles of art.
Thankyou very much~!

Hello Concept art. I am a 21 yeaer old design student. I'd be interesting in doing different types of art as a career. Hello everyone :)

First, I have to say that i'm French, so, I do apologize if my english isn't perfect (and full of mistakes).

I'm interested in drawing, painting, and photoshop & illustrator... But unfortunately, i didn't have so much time to improve myself in every domains wich make me dream. But, as i'm moving out in few weeks to go studing 3D & art in south France, maybe it will change : I really want to focus on drawing, painting, and 3D stuffs.

I choose conceptart.org 'cause I'm looking for people to "bring me up", by tips and critiques.

At that time, I'm trying to improve myself in painting & digital painting. So if people want contact me to guide me... No problem, i'm waiting 8D But hem... I guess I have to make this request in "COMMUNITY MENTORING".

Thank you and see you :)

Hello hello,

Already started posting in my sketchbook, but remembered I hadn't even introduced myself yet. So here I am.

Hello there! Im new-ish. I am astonished by all your works, and I need some guidance =D. I heard from a friend during a Sketchoholic.com marathon that this is a good place to start learning how to paint and 3D model. So that's what I am doing! School is starting and in my free time I will sketch anything and everything. I heard and know from experience that daily sketching and making stuff is the only way to improve your art skills a lot so I will defiantly do that! Umm soo yea thats pretty much my introduction. Oh and my name is alex =D

Hi. I'm pretty young, and I'm terrible, at least, I don't compare at all to professionals. I'm hoping to get some fairly brutal critique, I'm kind of a masochist like that. Since I want to do art professionally one day, I want to get better, and since I've been lurking for about a month, I figure this place is where I could do it. dA is sort of overrun by idiots.

I don't really want to post anything though, because I don't want to ruin this great site.

Hello,

I am new to the site though I have been browsing for a couple of weeks. I just started drawing again after a loooooooong hiatus from what was once a very relaxing and wonderful adventure in my youth. I am not looking to be a top of the line artist or sale my art to anyone... I am not even looking for a job in the business like so many other talented people on this site. I simply want to create and learn how to best do that with a convincing outcome.

I guess my motivation for learning more comes from different places. Mostly I would love to be able to be able to convey myself and my thoughts in a less destructive way....

I want to paint my children and my wife... I would love to paint characters in my mind from books that I have read... I have always enjoyed this type of expression but have only touched the tip of the iceberg... I don't have a log of experience and am not very good.

Currently I am reading: Drawing on the right side of the brain and after that I am going to try Bert D Keys to Drawing.
