This coming weekend (Nov 14th if you are want to learn) Marshall Vandruff is joining us to teach his awesome class on creating anatomy from imagination, and constructing believable figures and characters from any perspective on the fly. This is the single best anatomy teacher I have ever found and a world renown instructor responsible for teaching guys like Justin Sweet (http://www.wizards.com/mtg/images/daily/arcana/127_full.jpg), Bernie Wrightson (http://michaelmay.us/08blog/12/1210_frankwrightson.jpg), Drew Struzan (http://www.ghostinthemachine.net/indyskullposter.jpg) , Kevin Llewellyn (http://www.kevart.com/black-poinsettia.html) , Vance Kovacs (http://conceptartworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/marek_okon_dragon_01.jpg) artists from Blizzard, Sony, Disney and...the list goes on. And on. And on.
Without the knowledge of anatomy and structure shared with me from Marshall I would have struggled to do all the concept work I did over the years. He is one of the finest teachers I have ever encountered and I think you will find him to be the same. So that being said...here is some info!
ANATOMY FOR ARTISTS: An Introduction to Observe & Invent The Human Figure
Marshall offers this intensive crash-course that compares human anatomy in book plates with finished masterpieces by great artists. This workshop makes anatomy practical - knowledge that contributes to powerful life drawing and allows artists to invent figures from imagination.
The course includes over 200 slides of great art with commentary and comparisons between anatomy plates and finished works.
The course showcases the work and teaching of George Bridgman, and his influence on illustrators such as Frank Frazetta.
The roots of creative anatomy shall be revealed this weekend.

When: Nov 14th
How much: 95 USD
What time? 1pm-5pm PST
"I heard CA upgraded it's tech?" - Yep we sure did and it is really nice stuff. We have paid the price and shelled out for the leading on line education tools available. The system works great and is here to stay.
How? Direct Link to the store here! http://www.conceptartstore.com/anforar.html
Why? - Because you want to learn to better your anatomy use, create figures from life and/or imagination and because you want to be the best artist you can be.
Who is this for? This is for all artists no matter the discipline. If you are a 3d artist, 2d artist, painter, sculptor or any other artist using the human figure, then this class will help you. For certain.

Ah this is great. I have got to be there! :D
The course includes over 200 slides of great art with commentary and comparisons between anatomy plates and finished works.
Does that also mean we are getting the slides (Save the whiteboard as a PDF ourselves) or is Marshall just using them as lesson material which we cannot get our hands on. It would be great to use the slides as learning tool. :)

I wish I had the money for this. The new tech is AWESOME and has made the classes so much easier. Bridgman is an artist I have been studying for a long time and I can tell you from personal experience that his teachings will give your forms more weight and presence, and will make a lot of the confusing structures of the human body so simple that you WILL find it easier to draw from life or from your own imagination. I have several Bridgman books but I'd love to actually take a class where it is all explained in front of me. Kudos to everyone who takes this one, I'll have to catch it on OnDemand at a later date.

Question. I just ordered and got "Your credit card has been collected" which i assume means that the transaction is complete. My card has not yet been debited and no email has showed up. This was around an hour ago so i'm getting a bit worried as those things usually happens instantly. Should i wait more or is something not quite right? I really don't want to miss out on this.

I'm just wondering if this will basically be the same format that Marshall teaches his seminars. Obviously it would be a condensed version. But Marshall Takes seven sessions to cover the entire body so I am wondering ----
How much he will attempt to cover? (Head & Features, The Torso, Neck & Head Structure etc)
I would really like to improve my skills of creating figures from imagination.
Will this be a big topic that is addressed?
Marshall's work is great ! Sorry for the long post, but if anyone can answer any of these questions I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

It was awesome and it met my personal expectation like charm.
Back when I first wanted to learn anatomy, I was lead to Bridgman. I bought his books and even though I liked the art inside, I couldn't understand one bit of what was in there... Reading the description of the workshop, I expected to get some clues as to how to approach Bridgman's foggy method. That's what I got. Now I have a steady method to study anatomy and get the best out of it. If you want to create characters from your imagination, you'll want to know what Marshall Vandruff has to say. You WANT to! You're not paying 95$ for a 4 hours class, you're paying 95$ for a method that will accompany you your whole artistic life. I couldn't recommand it enough.
Thanks Mr Vandruff and thanks everyone at CA/MB for making this happen.

Due to the sudden switch to the new Illuminate technology last week it will take a bit longer than usual to put up the On-Demand lectures. Rest assured though, they will be made available soon and we'll put up official announcements on where to check them out etc. Just a little patience please :)

To Jason, Marshall and all the great guys and gals at CA.org that made it happen.
I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed Marshall's workshop. I'm in the UK so attending one of his courses for me is not an option. I was also recently disappointed when I tried to buy his DVD's to find that due to shipping costs the company that supply them cancelled my order. So you arranging this and making it a reasonable price is super fantastic.
I didn't make it to the live broadcast but I still felt like I was right there in Marshall's class. Also being able to watch it again and again as many times as I want for 30 days makes it even better value as I am able to take my time to absorb everything I saw and heard; and with each viewing I learn even more. The new tech you have put in place is also really impressive. I managed to attend your first live demo on Freelancing and its amazing to see how far you've come in such a short time.
Anyway you are busy peeps and I don't want to hold you all up, but please if possible arrange for more Marshall workshops. I think it is the only way I will be able to understand Bridgman! I am not well off but I am willing to spend whatever I have to get the best training and support from CA.org.
Your achievements are outstanding and I wish you more to come.

One of your Drivers is most-likely corrupted and you need to remove one of the recent ones you've downloaded.
I had this happen to me a few months ago and it was due to an nVidia Driver I'd recently downloaded.
Either do a System Recovery Reboot or just delete any video drivers you may have downloaded recently. You will also have to clean out the registry cache - try using Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, it worked for me.

So... I managed to weasel an early Christmas gift out of my girlfriend and snagged this before it comes down...
And by the maker, was it worth it. It made the collection of anatomy books I've acquired turn from frustrating and near useless to holding obscene amounts of promise. Including understanding Bridgman's little toe. I think that by itself covers the cost.
My first experience with the new tech as well, and it seems better in just about every way, a very good investment. I also love that the chat gets saved, since I usually can't catch the live schedule it makes it seem more alive and holds attention better. Only one thing that was a pain... and that's rewinding, especially as you get further into it and near the end... Guessing it's a limitation of the tech, but having to wait for the entire lecture to be reprocessed just to catch those ten seconds of lost words because the phone rang... frustrating =P Still, hands down better than livestream.
Anyway, to mention the content again, excellent. Not sure how much longer this is up, but if you are looking for the means by which to build a strong foundation in anatomy... or how to interpret the various anatomy books usually suggested... or to get pointed to some more excellent ones... some analysis of the application of it, such as in Frazetta... or how to construct your own training regiment. This will definitely be of use =)
Marshall as well was excellent, engaging, humorous and very knowledgeable. All the questions were superbly answered. I'd definitely purchase another lecture if he returns... even if I had to turn to *ahem* street arts.
Next on my list to get: The Point of View Stream

I just had an opportunity to pick up this class on-demand.
The new tech is very nice and seems to stream much better also.
My only complaint about the class was that the title may need to be clarified. This class was more of a brief and cursory overview of anatomy for the beginning student has never had any exposure to figure anatomy.
For an artist who has some knowledge or exposure to anatomy, Vandruff never really gets into the meat of the it all. I was sort of expecting a lecture on how to draw anatomy, in particular simplifying muscles and bones into basic shapes but I think that was probably beyond the scope of this basic overview.
The first hour primarily covers Vandruff's background and his path to discovering Bridgeman. The remaining 3-4 hours speeds through muscle groups without going into how some muscles work as levers, pulleys, the different type of bone joints, muscle heads and bellies which really describe the shape of the muscle as seen on the body.
Overall I think the lecture is a good cursory guide for the artist completely new to figure anatomy to help them figure out what references they could be studying on their own.
I'd really like to see some more in-depth lectures relating how particular muscles look when contracted vs relaxed and how to simplify complex muscle groups using basic shapes.

This is a good intro course for beginners and people who just aren't getting anatomy. This is not for intermediate to advanced artists unless you're looking for a refresher or a kick in the ass. Primarily it's about general forms and anatomical detail, and shows how to supplement Bridgman with more detailed anatomy books. There are a couple drawing strategies that are given a brief showing but it's more about showing the locations of muscles. Some pictures of anatomy in actual artworks are shown, mostly by Frazetta, which demonstrate that anatomy is only valuable if it is usable.

I know exactly what you mean. I had been looking for a great figure drawing book for artists for some time and many just weren't cutting it. I love Bridgeman, but some of his drawings are hard to decipher in his book to figure out exact muscles shapes. I had been looking forever for a proper figure drawing book for artists because many out there may as well be anatomy for med students with their lack of simplification and depicting movement and feeling.
I had a figure drawing professor this past year who was astounding and I've been trying to find books that are similar with how he taught me. (apparently, Andrea Wicklund at Valve may have been a student of his) I found this book called "Figure Drawing: Design and Invention" by Michael Hampton and I HIGHLY recommend it. It teaches gesture, structural form, and simplified anatomy groups excellently. It's a great book to get the fundamentals down properly and then spring board you into much more lively and detailed rendering.

Another one that teaches basically the same things, but doesn't have quite as much breadth of information is ImagineFX's anatomy special with ron lemen. If you like this magazine you'll love the previous book I mentioned.

Hi all, having trouble getting this to work. I downloaded the play.jnlp file, but when I tried running it a Java loading screen pops up, disappears, then nothing. According to the blackboard/elluminate support portal my OS and Java stuff is up to date, so I don't know what's going on here. Help me out anyone?
