hi guys. I have finally plucked up the balls to post some stuff here. the quality of work here is mindboggling. please crit. I am really really eager to get better.
here goes nothing
August 11th, 2009, 08:31 AM
ooh i really dig the last environment! :D
though i think either the perspective or the proportion is wrong here, if you look at the trees there on the left, they seem parallel with the mountain thingy, but they are still so small...
August 11th, 2009, 10:33 AM
The fourth one is really beautiful. I'm not good when it comes to environment, I have nothing to critizise, just keep working;)
August 11th, 2009, 11:16 AM
Stuff is looking good. keep it up. My only crit is that your work is shot from very far angles. Try drawing your scenes with the camera closer to the action/focus point
August 11th, 2009, 11:20 AM
I like the textures of your work, you use a lots of filters or is it the brushes ?
looking clean. keep it up!
August 11th, 2009, 11:30 AM
hey Hot, those landscapes are impressive.. definalty got alot of depth in them and as sopor said, the texture works well... keep it comin...
August 11th, 2009, 12:36 PM
Really, really lovely enviros. Great start to a sketchbook!
August 11th, 2009, 02:55 PM
thanks for all the responses. I agree that all my paintings seem to have a distant feeling and dont draw you in enough. I think this is down to composition, which is an issue I am struggling with at the moment.
August 11th, 2009, 03:19 PM
your enviroments are really good mate.Pare that up with some character studies, anatomy and such
keep going, thats a nice start for a sketchbook and welcome to CA :D
August 11th, 2009, 03:46 PM
Interesting environments, I like textures in your work
August 11th, 2009, 05:46 PM
heres a couple more. the first two are mattepainting exercises(photoref mixed with paint) and the others a self explanatory.(p.s the tank one is a little older and the composition is rubbish but hey.)
August 11th, 2009, 11:09 PM
Hi hotbox, I know you from CG Society, I'm glad to see you here. Your landscapes are amazing and my first reaction with the two last matte paintings was like "WOOOAAAADUUUUDE!!":D
Something tells me that you can do it better with the last portrait...:P
August 12th, 2009, 03:41 AM
hey Raśl. thanks for the comments. I agree with you on the last portrait. although it is slightly older than all the rest, just thought I would throw it in for good measure as I dont have much character stuff in my SB, that will change soon though :)
August 12th, 2009, 05:13 AM
I like the way you're making Photoshop work for you in those enviros, lots of atmosphere and texture in 'em. I should really start doing those too someday. Heads are okay too, but you'll need a little more refinement there (unless you're just posting rough stuff and still have a bunch of great faces lying around, in which case my apologies). Anyway, keep it coming!
August 12th, 2009, 05:49 AM
hey walnut. thanks. people, animals and creatures is an are that I need to work on. I get carried away doing enviroments. I plan on maybe doing some hogarth studies and a few portraits soon, will have to wait till the weekend though as I am super busy at work :(
August 12th, 2009, 05:50 AM

August 12th, 2009, 06:06 AM

August 12th, 2009, 08:02 AM
Very nice! I really like the one of the hallway with the sculpture, it has wonderful atmosphere. And T-Rex is just always cool. :P

i really like your env's . i think those are the strongest in your work..

August 21st, 2009, 07:27 AM
Hi guys. been super super busy at work so havnt had much chance to paint. heres a really quick one, playing around with mood and colour more than anything.
August 21st, 2009, 08:28 AM
Hey, you do a awesome job in capturing the mood in enviroments.
Small crit on the guy in snowy place: his arms are out of porportion, and (his) right wrist is too long and unnatural. Hips may be too narrow too.
August 21st, 2009, 11:11 AM
ten minutes while waiting for a render ...meh
August 21st, 2009, 02:24 PM
This stuff is fantastic! Great environments. Keep it up! I really enjoyed looking at every single one of these!
August 21st, 2009, 04:09 PM
Very detailed environments, much better than i can do. I'd love to see you sharpen some of those up a bit though, i think they'd be amazing.
Sketch me back if you'd like...

been a while since I last posted, work has been getting in the way of me painting and just making me lazy, need to get my ass in gear. but here are a couple of not so great images I have done when I have had the time
October 12th, 2009, 06:48 PM

November 5th, 2009, 09:08 PM
Really digging that last one, I would like to see you take it further with a finished foreground and some crisper details. Awesome colors on the enviro's all around.
November 20th, 2009, 03:31 PM
heres the latest bunch. I seem to be in a rut at the moment, not too pleased with any of these but here they are worts and all
November 20th, 2009, 04:57 PM
you got an awesome sense for light and color, though I would suggest refining your foreground stuff a bit more, you work a lot in the midground IMO, I can recommend you `Pictorial Composition“ from Henry Rankin Poore regarding composition issues

excellent landscape conception! you make it look easy. they are all really fresh!
one crit: It seems to me almost as if you are holding back with all these landscapes. Even with the one you posted in the "its finally finished section" (though, that one was really great) Id say, pick one and push it as far as you can. post it in the crit center to get extra and instant crit and paintpaintpaint. I think you could learn a lot that way.
