ooh i really dig the last environment! :D
though i think either the perspective or the proportion is wrong here, if you look at the trees there on the left, they seem parallel with the mountain thingy, but they are still so small...

The fourth one is really beautiful. I'm not good when it comes to environment, I have nothing to critizise, just keep working;)

Stuff is looking good. keep it up. My only crit is that your work is shot from very far angles. Try drawing your scenes with the camera closer to the action/focus point

I like the textures of your work, you use a lots of filters or is it the brushes ?
looking clean. keep it up!

thanks for all the responses. I agree that all my paintings seem to have a distant feeling and dont draw you in enough. I think this is down to composition, which is an issue I am struggling with at the moment.

heres a couple more. the first two are mattepainting exercises(photoref mixed with paint) and the others a self explanatory.(p.s the tank one is a little older and the composition is rubbish but hey.)

Hi hotbox, I know you from CG Society, I'm glad to see you here. Your landscapes are amazing and my first reaction with the two last matte paintings was like "WOOOAAAADUUUUDE!!":D

Something tells me that you can do it better with the last portrait...:P

hotbox
August 12th, 2009, 03:41 AM
hey Raśl. thanks for the comments. I agree with you on the last portrait. although it is slightly older than all the rest, just thought I would throw it in for good measure as I dont have much character stuff in my SB, that will change soon though :)

I like the way you're making Photoshop work for you in those enviros, lots of atmosphere and texture in 'em. I should really start doing those too someday. Heads are okay too, but you'll need a little more refinement there (unless you're just posting rough stuff and still have a bunch of great faces lying around, in which case my apologies). Anyway, keep it coming!

Hey, you do a awesome job in capturing the mood in enviroments.

Small crit on the guy in snowy place: his arms are out of porportion, and (his) right wrist is too long and unnatural. Hips may be too narrow too.

you got an awesome sense for light and color, though I would suggest refining your foreground stuff a bit more, you work a lot in the midground IMO, I can recommend you `Pictorial Composition“ from Henry Rankin Poore regarding composition issues

cheers

excellent landscape conception! you make it look easy. they are all really fresh!

one crit: It seems to me almost as if you are holding back with all these landscapes. Even with the one you posted in the "its finally finished section" (though, that one was really great) Id say, pick one and push it as far as you can. post it in the crit center to get extra and instant crit and paintpaintpaint. I think you could learn a lot that way.

great work!
