Hello boys and girls. I'm going to be stepping in for the next few weeks to help chaos get this place back to speed. Sorry for the confusion. :]

Haha, I immediately thought of the Truman Show. This should yield some interesting results.

I'll see if I'll be able to make something I'm not too ashamed to submit amidst all the awesomeness.

well i think this topic is nifty :^^:

I don't know why, but one of the first things I thought of when I saw this topic was to portray the inside of a fish aquarium all done up with a bunch of decorations to look like Mt. Olympus, and all the fish think they're gods of the universe among their elaborate plastic towers.

It's probably not what I'll end up doing if I even do this one, but if I did it would certainly let me stretch out of my comfort zone.

Sorry for the confusion, boys and girls, there was just a bit of a mix up but it's all sorted out now and this is the topic for this week. Again, really sorry if you'd already got to work.

Zirngibism: your idea is pretty cool. At first though, I misread it and came up with a pretty sweet idea for you. Have gods and such on Mount Olympus, but have giant fist flying in the sky. As if they are the in paradise, but it's really just a fish tank.

thanks Daestwen.
The problem withthe other topic was that it was a scene rather than an environment. witness the fact that mpaquin spent so much time on the characters ather than the scene It would be an appropriate combined topic with CHOW. but not an envionment alone.

sorry for the confusion
and I will attempt to maintain better contact

The final burning thread will be up in a couple of days, and that's where you'll post it to get into the poll. :]

Ok I've decided to make an image for this one. The idea here is a mystical forest/garden with a black ominous stone that'll be sort of infecting the forest with dark tendrils of eeeevil.
This is just a very rough sketch though I've got a long way to go to get the forest into shape.

NickTrip, since you asked, your first WIP had (and maintains) the makings of greatness. Its successors are complicating the idea. A black rock sitting in an idyllic forest is oddity enough without black evil tendrils and other weirdness.

Interesting entries, all.

Thanks Corrick. I'll make sure I keep the contrast between the two (forest and rock) simple. I appreciate the input.

Hey Chaos! Thanks! Good to be back. I've been preoccupied for a year or so, but hope to be doing the EOW every week if possible.

Here's what I've got. Didn't entirely nail the dream-like forest appearence I was going for, but it seems somewhat pleasant right?

http://www.tripiciano.com/files/HostedImages/NickTrip_EOW116e.jpg

Any suggestions for improvement?

All of the work here is looking great!

***update***

I've taken your suggestion and upped the saturation and contrast. The thing is though, I don't want to do the color traditionally, because it was tending to take too long to get the work done when I was doing ChOW and COW a little while ago. I switched to the charcoal drawings to increase the speed and complexity I could work at so my efforts would be more meaningful (drawing and design is where I think I need to improve the most). I know there's a way to make this colorization process look good. It might just take a while to figure it out.
I may go back into this and bring some of the saturation down, and just have the high saturation in certain parts. Thoughts?

NickTrip - As for suggestions, the colors seem way too desaturated and your contrast should be higher ( I'd think ) in a forest sun/shadow context. I do commend you for working non-digi, my non-digi stuff takes months. :) If you want to continue non-digi, I'd recommend printing out a copy, apply fixative, and color with oil pastels to get some saturated colors.

oomgawa - I love the idea, the precarious nature is precious to me. Also, awesome work on the reflections on the saucers!

Corrick - Nice!

tsujni, thanks! but I cannot take credit for the plate reflections, I am using photo reference from three photos. I built one with selection tools and now am painting in what colors I think would be reflected. zBrush would have made it easier!

NickTrip, much better! the woods look more pleasant which makes a good contrast to the black stone.
