Does the entry to this contest have to be entirely new work? I did something last year that I feel would fulfill this contests brief. I was never fully satisfied with it but I didn't have the skill level to improve it further, till now. I know that I would have to put a lot of time in to reach a position where I would be happy with it. Entering this contest would give me the motivation to do so.

This is where I'll post my final version.

Oh well just 'cause you put a question mark on the end of a sentance doesn't mean it has to be answered. These are my early WiPs coming up

This is where I was at last year. I like the concept of alien mother and suckling alien newborn, but I was never happy with the finish.
It is soft and far too air brushy. I couldn't see that then but now it's so obvious. For the past week or so while I've had the chance I've been working on the rendering with a view to entering the updated version as Mother and Newborn.

I'll post those new WiPs soon.

hi , the rendering of her face is very good. it makes her look beautiful and misterious. But at the same time imho it is the primary focus of the drawing. it takes attention away from the newborn she s holding.

i can t wait to see how this one will develop :)

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. You are spot on with your observation. I'm hoping to alter the lighting to draw focus to the Newborn, which requires a lot more attention. I may have to expand the canvas and the image in order to accomodate the composition.
