The only downside to this tablet is that it eats the nib like candy. I love the tooth in the new surface, but holy shit! after 2 days of using the intuos4 i've worn the nib more than i did in 2.5 years of intensive intuos3 use.

Luckily there's 5 spare standard nibs..

I'm not the only one, right?

Yep, it was mentioned in the first threads about the intuos4. Wacom sells the spares under the Bamboo line.

Maybe down the line they'll offer cover sheets with different surfaces.

mine wore down a lot pretty fast, but then slowed down after the point wore off. i never had to replace my old intuos2 or graphire nibs (i know, im old).

i also noticed the point wears down really fast, but the back part lasts a lot longer :p

Stop being a panzy and changing the nib as soon as its a little bit worn :D. Ive been on the same nib since i bought mine and i use it for hours daily. Yeah it happens faster than previous models but i think the feel of the new surface is deff worth it.

I read somewhere that to circumvent nib wear someone taped a piece of paper to the drawing surface. This still gave the feel of paper but saved on their nib life.

Not sure if this works since I've not received mine yet, but thought I would pass this along.

This kinda scary me a bit, cause I was about to get a Intuos 4.

But hey, I have a Genius GPen, and her nib is REALLY flat here after 2 years of use. This issue don't bothers me, and I wonder if the nib of Intuos 4 is worse than this one of Genius...

I also noticed this problem...At first I thought I was being abusive!! :O Also, I noticed the surface didn't fully retain it's friction level after just 2 days or so. When I first got it..that was the first thing I noticed: great "paper" feel. I put the mouse on the surface, tilted the tablet, and the mouse wouldn't slid around until pushed...I used it for a while..and a few days later attempted the same thing. But this time the mouse would slide from top to bottom of the tablet without even a thought of stopping..it almost saddened me. But!! It's still a nice surface..:P
