Hi guys <3
I'm Mary, 15, from Romania.
And I thought I might start a sketchbook here, so I did. Crits are most loved (and begged for, really :D). I've been drawing for a year now, and in digital, I use a mouse.
First post, ahoy! A sketch done in PS. Sorry for the very messy lines :^^;:
696805
A character from a series I'm starting, called "Angel Chronicles". Her name is Bianca, and she's an albino. Experimenting with hair motion, fabric draping and butterflies; stylized a tad. This is just a basic sketch-up for what I want...I'll do some intensive research for sturdy references later, since It's quite late here. I thought about a basic palette of mostly white, pink and grey. What do you guys think? (ps. I know the fabric on the support plane is awfully put, but that was just to give me an idea.)

Sorry for the poor quality in these, but I don't have scanner, so I used my camera D: Some lucky ones were scanned by the girl in the first portrait :D
Andreea, my classmate:

This is my first real life portrait that people said actually looks like said person, so I'm happy :D
A quick class doodle:
697245
Under my umbrella, ella, ella, ella, e!
697249
Trees grown tall in Shangri-La
697253
Under the sea, the beautiful seeeea~
697256
Moth mistress

I'll put some digitally coloured ones later :D

Hey, welcome to CA :yayca:
Your digital sketch looks nice, and considering you are using a mouse, its pretty good. You really should invest in a tablet, it's worth the money.
As for the portrait i think that the eyes are a bit too big. You could look into Loomis book "Drawing the head and hands"for a better understanding of the head. But it might be that the persons eyes really where big :P.
all in all: keep drawing, and keep updating
cheers!

I just started reading it, I'm at page 20 something :D

Hi Mary! Nice sketchbook that you got there. Really nice start. Hey, drawing lines with a mouse can be real hard and tricky, I know.
You are from Romania? Cool. Then I live close to you, we can meet sometime maybe :)

Who knows, perhaps ;)
Where do you live?

It looks like a good start. I kind of like your fantasy style. I think if you do the studies, you can come a long way. I am a bit more lazy though, but I have seen how others progress when they work hard. You might wait awhile before doing photoshop as well. The basics are the first step, but you are headed in the right direction.

Thanks a lot *hugs*
I've started on studies, since I got my hands on Bridgman and Loomis books <3
I'm lazy too, but I'm learning to fight that damn procrastination :D
I've been doing Photoshop for quite some time now (more or less than a year), especially with colouring, and now I have to catch up in traditional with it :^^;:

Kay, new stuffff :D
I realised I have a very short attention span when it comes to studies. I get easily distracted. "Oh, to Loomis head pose number...is that a squirrel?! OMG SO CUUUTE!" - that sort of stuff XD. I must fight it TT_TT
699742
Self portrait, lol.
Realised juist now the eyes might be too wide
699747
Loomis numbah one. Attention span decreased by 50% while doing it :D Fast stuff, really. Was going more for pose practice than neatness and accuracy.
699744
Loomis numbah two. Got distracted again and started doodling stuff on the heads. Air fighter up there, then Holmes, then a bloke who needs coffee, then a dude who reminds me of Fabio, from those cheesy romance novels.
699749
A character of mine holding a teddy-bear in a should-be-but-got-lazy-to-do-it sandstorm. I wanted to practice drawing bodies that were "cut off" by the edges of the paper. I depend too much on having a head present to measure stuff.
699750
Something inspired by "Carnival of Rust" from Poets of the Fall, and some thing seen on dA.
699752
She's gonna faaaaal. Watch her fall, my friends, for only when I saw this on the PC I realised I fucked up her centre of gravity :er:
699755
Two character concepts I had to get out. Meet Primo and Secunda.
699757
She's bleeding love, people.

Haha, I can absolutely understand what you say about the attention span. Me too, I get distrascted really easily. But good news: you can train it :)
Keep it up!

I will :D Because this lack of attention span is getting me everywhere. It's worse when I'm on sugar though, I get all hyper and excited about everything and stuff :confident

Self portraits are hard, but you got yourself pretty on the dot. All you need now is some shading. : )

June 18th, 2009, 01:41 PM
Will do :D Har, har, but I'm still on insecure ground with shading in the traditional way D:
In PS, I can do them semi-realistic...but in real life, that's a whole 'nother story D: Must catch up, really ^^; .
Kay, new stuffs.
Anime-not-so-shiny-desu thingie type of drawing and shading. Because I was in the mood for it (you can put your pitchforks down now, folks :bashful:). Just wanted to lay out a basic character palette without much effort.
701641
Taylor Swift made me do this D:. Fugly colouring with cheap crayons is fugly.
701642
My try at a static-but-more-dynamic pose :D Her right arm is a tad too long, now I see. Tried 7 1/2 - 8 heads proportion (must be the Bleach I watched last night)

I think it's time you start cracking into drawing from reference. You'll improve faster that way, and there'll be fewer complaints about not knowing what to draw.
I promise.

Will do, Zaxser! :yayca:
New stuff...this time referenced, or semi-referenced:
Genevieve, the French dancer
702250
A couple...from my Angel Chronicles (saw the pose in a perfume add, and inspiration hit me...in writing what the hell happened with those two XD )

Hellluh guys <3
New stuffs!
This is a thing I'm currently working on...laid out the flats and decided to put it up here :D Naraku no hana, ja nai <3 I love that song :bashful:. Ref'd too :)
703762
Must fix her hand D:
A mermaid pulling at the moon...referenced this too, but I don't think I got her arms right.
703763
I have more, but the server here is being a bitch to me. It hardly lets me upload anything D:. Anyone else got problems? Or is my connection to blame?

Some nice stuff in here.
You've got Inspiration, Imagination, but could do with more Motivation.
LOL at the distraction thingy, I get exactly the same thing. I have like ten tabs open on Internet Explorer right now, and if I get bored of one, I just jump across. I like the one drawn from the perfume ad, maybe try get it finished, because romance is one of the things that gets me working well.
So's coffee, lol.
Keep up the good work, you're definately improving, just keep working at it.
;)

More motivation and less Procrastination...I think I got myself a new motto:D
Holy damn, 10 tabs... I only have 7 right now :bashful:
Will finish it the perfume inspired one :yayca:

The server here has been a bitch to me lately, so I hop now it lets me upload stuff D:
Cloud heads <3
I had a series of 3 a while ago of something like this, and people really liked it...and asked for more :D. Was intended to be wacky, cloudy, and with weird anatomy. So I decided it was perhaps time to continue the series. Sketchy mess ahead.
705557705558705559 - this is a coloured version in PS. I keep the colouring very simple for these, just gradients and the texture (sxc.hu).
Playing with coloured crayons and jumping poses (referenced). I want to do green and yellow too today.
705562
I've also been practising Loomis heads as of lately, and I think I'm improving :D Got my hands on a hand practising guide, so the future seems bright.

Newwwwww....stuff.
These should be simple hand studies. Observe the should. I can't seem to focus on just practising and then leaving them alone...they turned out to be a colorfest.
705882
705880
And decided it was time to touch my watercolours again :bashful: This is...my second attempt at watercolours. Done on shitty paper, unfortunately :(

Haven't update this in....a long time, methinks. I was so busy with real life and other stuff, I hadn't time to update this thread D:
Some mermaid thingie with simple shading and all...I was in the mood to do something simple.
712066
Idiotic random stuff...a girl with flowy hair, and some ballet pose I couldn't for the life of me finish, reference picture and all.
712067
Some character heads...I should sort out their facial proportions soon enough, so I can draw them in other various poses.
712069
A rocker girl and a smoking ballerina - semi-ref'd and all referenced, specifically.
712071
Two drawings inspired by the song "Curare on your lips". I want to do some liquid dripping along them, but I am quite confused on how to do this or how I want it to look like. Ref'd.
"In the back of my mind I can see
The Merlot dripping from your hands and feet" Gosh, I love this song <3
712072712073
More random stuff...
712075712074
Oh, I have a question. In your opinion, how much time should be spent drawing each day?

Woah, you are so talented! And young! You have an eye for proportions and I think that if you practice more anatomy studies you will improve so much.
Tu chiar ai un simt artistic dosebit si cred ca daca exersezi mult o sa creezi lucruri extraordinare .

wow...:O I almost forgot about this thing, sine I decided not to post and let it die until I become much, much better.
Thanks for the compliment, but please guys, for the love of God, LET THIS THREAD DIE before I make even more of a fool of myself with such subpar, old art.
Looking at this is like a journey in the past, though.
