TEEN CHALLENGE 65

The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.

The Topic: Selkies this time, the title might be the title of a Between the Buried and Me song, but its not really related.

Selkies are creatures that can change themselfs from human to seal form, found in Icelandic, Scottish and Irish mythology.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selkie

IMPORTANT
1. Add a border around your image with your name and the topic, like they do with the other of the week challenges.
2. Please do not use attachment manager, but outside host your image.
3. Mark your final as final
Please do NOT FORGET.

The Deadline:
Monday June 1st, 2 weeks.

Hm, pretty interesting theme. Just read about the Selkies and since I'm pretty much interested in mythology, you can say I'm in ^^

However dislike the song though, I hate screaming in music ._. However the solo was tight!

Anyway, I'm starting right away ^^

just outta interest... what are the rules on PG content (not looking at you Lysgaard but was interested for the final creation...)

I'm thinking of maybe making a more modern Selkie... seems fun and interesting

Its an art forum, a learning forum, if I start to forbid nudity, i'm taking away a way to learn, I'm going against the principle of this board.

So, as much nudity as you like!:lifedrawing:

This is my first post on this site.. so yeah. The idea behind it was transformations. It's still a WIP, so maybe when i have time later I'll finish it.

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Also, I had some trouble uploading it from a separate site, so does anyone have any suggestions on what to do in the situation? (I already looked at the FAQs).

Thank you!

the works are looking great...
love the style Suserrus
though the 'shedding the skin' is an important prerequisite i feel... but it still looks good!

and thanks again Dave

Here's mine at the moment. Been trying a bunch of different renderings on the seal skin, right now it's shitload of wrinkles.

Thanks, Jerik!

I think I am going to work on that a bit more, maybe experiment with some motion effects...

I thought I might pop in here for this one. A little more symbolic than actually showing you. I was thinking of having the skin chained or caged.... thoughts? Crits are very welcome. :) A wip.

I very much doubt i will finish in time, if at all...

Update. I think her dress will be whiter like the hanging bit lower down, but I'm a bit afraid of not having enough contrast with the skin. Hmmm....I'll just have to make it work.

lysgaard, you might want to watch out that the bottom of you're woman torso doesn't look as though her legs could be attached and in the skin. More like she's coming through the skin from the rock underneath. Her hips would have to be more at a right angle to us, than the close to straight on it is now.

Hey, I was thinking of joining the challenge :).
I guess B&W is allowed too?
Concerning the selkie, do we have to focus on the whole character, or can we just show one part as with this image: http://www.wizards.com/magic/images/mtgcom/fcpics/taste/db44_7ur9gq3nui.jpg ?
And are selkies always women? Because most selkie images I've seen are with women :l

Nice idea there susurrus.

As far as I know Selkies are only women, no males. And the image you linked shows way to little of the character.

.

Your link is dead, please fix it.

Hey everyone, nice looking works so far :) This is my first time taking part in the teen challenge. Heres what i have come up with so far:

A lot of work is still required

I came up with this quick sketch. But it isn't really selkie like is it? I don't like the idea of the seal being a clothing like thing :p
anyways if this sucks I'll change to women undressing :p

It sounds like an interesting concept, but unfortunately I don't think I'll have time enough for it, in this round...

Pixie Trick - I love the composition you used, you catched the melancholic mood wonderfully. Can't wait to see it finished!

Jerik - Awesome concept! Love the way you coloured it. But be careful with her wrists and hands: they look a bit fat, and I don't know if it's the result you wanted.

NoodleDoodle - Lovely, I really like how you painted her skin. Though you may want to think more about the composition of the whole image... maybe with the girl and the rocks a bit more on the right, and the vision of the sea expanded, I don't know...

Great pieces, people. Good luck with the poll, and keep up the good work!

Hm, I tried creating things multiple times but I just suck pretty much on anatomy I don't dare submitting my selkie without practicing so much more.

I simply need to work hard on anatomy right now, I'm sure that after I gained more self-thrust in that I am able to submit at least a decent character ^^

You could use reference, instead of imaging it. But if you have a quality standard you hold, then i respect that very deeply.

i realise it sounds like a rather useless excuse, but i like to make my ladies that i draw NOT look like they're made of wafers, therefore plumper features are used... they're simply a lot more attractive to me.
and also... seals aren't exactly the most slender of critters :)
so yeah, leave it to personal style.
thanks anyway!

I haven't erased the pencil yet because I'll need it to remember where to shade. There will be sea spray, you might be able to faintly see what I've penciled in.

Love this subject! I felt like doing a manly selkie, where a fisherman's wife weeps into the sea and he appears in front of her.

Too bad it's almost impossible to see that i actually gave her a traditional Faroese dress. Oh and it's the final!
