GO FURTHER FOR MORE RECENT DRAWINGS - YOU HAVE ENTERED A PAINTERLY ADVENTURE

Indeed I lured you here with breasts - but don't feel guilty , carry on dear friend. Come along my journey and help me win battles of internal strife , boobage overload and let us destroy fear with testosterone and ironclad balls.

Well , technically it's not so much a Red Light District as it is a port for the New World. It's just an artsy struggle , a manly struggle , filled with hopes and dreams and the hormone-filled dreams of a once perturbed teenager that only wished to draw the perfect boo - I mean achieve his greatest desire - Be a great artist , an artist that inspires , that plunges into the depths of counsciousness and hopes to drag whatever lies there out to the surface.

Will you join me ? Will you help me get there ? Who knows .

As a once great man said - " Only time , and hormones will tell. "

Thank you for visiting and let us thrive .

- Andrew.

Sorry for the big rezolutions ,this is my first time posting ....I hope I didn't screw up my first time ^^ ,ok then ,here is more art ,some colored ones in painter and photoshop. They're not so recent but they're my first ones ,but here I go ...:( It's so frustrating to color with a mouse...

Hello there, i like your sketches in the first post best. You got some wild imagination :)

I think you should work a bit on getting cleaner lines. And when coloring, try to use a hard-edged brush. That will make the painting less blurred and more defined. Sorry, i am not really good with words in english :p

Keep it up ;)

February 27th, 2009, 11:04 AM

Welcome to CA, and no worries, you will make plenty of friends in no time!
Posting up a sketchbook here is the first step to greatness ;p
As Gelvin suggested, neaten up those lines; practice drawing them without picking up the pencil so often.
Dont forget to study anatomy, there is plenty of reference on the web and in books - plenty suggest checking out posemaniacs and stuff by Loomis and Bridgman.
Keep posting ;)

What jump right at me, when I saw your art is that your renderings are way to soft and can use more tonal value like darks and lights. Also try to practice your line quality and ananomty. However you chose interesting subjects and compositions in your work.

Keep up with the studies, there are looking good! One, thing through your losing a bit of your anatomy and gesture that you achieve in your studies when your tighten them them up to render.

Good night to y'all ,and hey vayne, thank you very much for the advice and for watching my thread,it means much to me,cheers to you!

Today's updates include a drawing ,a figure drawing after a photo, and then a doodle, both ruined cause I rushed like a prick :(,but after that I tried to revise my patience and try another one, from imagination followed by a sketch.I should really pay more attention when doing figure drawing and any drawing...gonna try and be more patient from now on.

I'm gonna try and do more studies next, maybe redo my proportions studies, and more posemaniacs gestures.I really need crits so I would really appreciate the help, thanks for all the views and for those that will come! Enjoy! :D

Hi Rostas, thx for stopping by my SB.... time for me to return the favour :)

After Looking through your works i think you should definately keep doing bridgeman studies. your figures get better and better. try to focus on linework and construction. when it comes to shading, try to work from life and work with a strong lightsource. thats easier to start with, coz diffuse and natural lightning are the hardest ones to nail, coz you need to have some decent knowledge of light and how it behaves.

keep it up and growing, i love your dedication, mine does lack at the moment :( but i'll update as soon as i get my portfolio back:)

greets, ben

I'm here again for some little updates, thank you Carg0re for the kind words and for posting and sharing your thoughts on my progress. It means much to me and I hope we grow in this wonderful community together with all the other great artists that are here. Thanks again and here are the updates ,3 drawings ...no studies today :( .Also ,I'll try really hard to improve my line and try to simplify the sketches more, seems as if the more I complex them, the more they get unclearer and softer ,and I don't want that ...so I'll try these days to tighten up my skills so I can go on. Cheers to you all and here are the updates,Enjoy!. P.S - I changed the resolution a little so they'll be more intelligible with all this softiness and stuff ...:(

hi rostas, you're quite a working bee, huh?! :)
i hope so too! if we keep working hard enough we'll eventually reach this goal... but u know, no pain no game :P

you're on your way, good thing to focus on line, try to break it up. i had (and have sometimes, ... real bad habbit!) a lot lines that are to hard and break up the dynamic of my pieces. i hate it when things look overworked, but i make this mistake a lot... don't establish the same bad habbit, it's soo hard to get rid off'em once they become routine :)

greets, ben

Hey wanted to stop by and give you a bit of my support because you are showing alot of strenth into improving and i think that is the 1st step into a positive evolution in your art!

Your creativity wonderfull and keep up with it, its the most needed thing in art.
I know your focusing on anatomy and general shadows and shapes but also study a bit of color so you can get the hang of it and develop both your drawing skills and painting skills at the same time so they progress in a equal manner.

I would suggest you gave a look at some anatomy books(just in case your not making your drawings from somekind of refernce or guide), references are always good to study weird angles and the general shape of the body and has you keep drawing you will keep absorving all the information has time goes by and references become unedeed in the future.

I will keep and eye on this, your efforts are amazing.

Take care.

Your sweet .

There is something i forgot to tell you.
Go through the forums and check these Sections:
-REFERENCES & INSPIRATIONS
-TUTORIALS, TIPS, & TRICKS
-FINE ARTS, STUDIES, & DISCOVERY

Around them you will find great resources for anatomy, color theory, shadows, digital painting, and much much more!

Alot of that stuff is there and its meant to be seen XD just in case you missed it, there are sites that the members of CA provide that are very helpfull like posemaniac wich has like a ton of dynamic poses!
The rest is up to you :P hope you take advantage of them!

And yes i am studying color theory but i am tiny beginer so alot of it fails, ah well i have to keep going.

Hey all again,a good night to all CA artists ,here are some updates, the previous "finished digie"(It could have turned out better if I was more patient) ,the pencils I said I will post and another digie.Problem is,i realised early that I have to take care with what resolution to work and that stuff, was working with default photoshop size and I was asking myself, why are they so blurry when I zoom in to add details(well duh,I'm so stupid),so I played with resolutions, color modes and all that.

I learned lots of stuff ,and its very fun to learn from experience :). Second thing ,I should pay more attention and do more studies,I've been kinda lazy these days and I don't really like it.I should slap myself,or you should slap me ,physically or with crits, whicever you want ^^ lol. Just a little update for now,a color study from a movie

MattGamer
April 15th, 2009, 03:54 PM
woo, the studies are great!!! don't ever stop, you
are on the right track! now remember when you are
copying something, that you're thinking of why it is
and not to just copy. think of why the shadows are
a certain way or why the light is appearing on the
face or in the eyes that way. think of the different
materials and how the light affects them and what
colors are produced.

same with your loomis studies. study the figure and ask
why it is a certain way. is it because the body is leaning
on one leg? or is it because the figure is about to jump?

the more you draw, the more you will understand and figure
out these things! the more you spend away from drawing
and painting (and learning) the harder it is to get back into
it! keep working hard and set goals for yourself too!!! :]

also, if you are painting with a mouse, try to save up for
a Wacom tablet. no matter what you have to do to get one,
even a Wacom Bamboo is worth it all!!

I need to study more to improve so any crits or comments or opinions will be very appreciated.I'll study from Loomis and Bridgman cause I like them the most ,but I like Vilppu too ,and maybe I'll draw from life more. *sigh* Well, work, fun and improvement awaits, cheers to all of you :) .Enjoy!

Hey guys ,again I'm late for posting ,I really want to try to post daily so I can manage my improvement better but sometimes I guess I just slip into total idiocy *sigh* ,well anyways, the updates are again Loomis studies, this time some head ones, cause I suck at drawing faces and heads and thought I should really go and study more deeply into this.Besides the studies, some still life's i've done outdoors on a table . Ok,Enjoy! :) .

Oh and I have a question besides this if anyone would be so kind to answer,I would really appreciate it,I seem to have a kind of a big problem with depicting form, and well ,shadow and lighting ,I seem to have studied a bit but I guess I really can't seem to be getting something that aids me ,I feel I'm at the same level with lightning and shadow but maybe it's my impression ,and It would really help me if you could give me some advice on this.Should I do more still life? Should I pay more attention to the elements that are needed to portray this ?Should I do some master studies? Anything would be very appreciated ,thank you again and have a pleasant night!

nice work, I would recommend trying to focus on making your lines more fluid, and also try and get a good contour/outline done before you start to shade, it'll help give you drawings a more finished look, keep it up!

Hey Rostas just been reading through your sketchbook and I am floored at how hard you are working :)
you are so dilligent with your studies, I am truly jealous! also I'm impressed with how hard you are working with your mouse can't wait for you to get a tablet and see what you produce then!
Hmm now for crits: the things that I can see that are causing most trouble are line economy, so work on you ability to use less lines for more and keep the lines a bit cleaner.
Also i would recomend working on improving proportions and finding a way to lay down some structure to keep the proportions correct.
Other than that your work looks great and you are very inspiring, to see such vast amount of work produced in such a short time.

P.S. your creative stuff is really great hope to see some more soon :)

wow you really keep the pace going , good job wish i could focus like that these days. as for crits: try building your lines from light to darker tones if you try shading, and other that that keep going with the construction of your subjects. It's important to know how the contstruction works before diving into shading techniques. oh and can i maybe get some of your dicipline?
keep going ;) great work, i'l be shure to check on you now and then.

ok, for your digital renderings your values are too blocky. Try transitioning your values with the alt key. Like in this tutorialhttp://garang76.deviantart.com/art/Character-Painting-tutorial-100911601. I hope that helps.

Hey again, hope all is well :)
your lines are looking really good and that last greyscale study of the woman looks great, but I have to agree with Vayne108 you need some more gradiation or smoothing of the colors (grays) to help give the sureface more volume and also to make it feel more three dimensional.
Other than that your work is looking great and it's good to see your still working hard, very jealous :)

Really like the color study, I can't get over the fact you did that with a mouse I am truly in the presence of a drawing god :p

The enviroment is good but it seems to lack perspective and the same wow effect as your color study.

also I'd recommend trying to overlay some texures or photos, or create some custom brushes to add more texture :)
If you need help creating custom brushes just hollar and I'll help ya out :)

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret :p this so far has been my artistic bible and I hope it will help you as it has me, it covers everything from color to texture to line art.

I have worked ,but ....yeah,I'm lame I know, the laziness of scanning or posting just faded away through the veil of time or maybe is it forgetfulness? One more reason was that I couldn't see my thread in the Sketchbooks domain.I do not know why,is it because I have not posted? Or some other motive ? I'm not posting now any drawings because I have a rather big batch so I'll post it tommorow after I finish with a school exam . Hello all ! Time for some posting , but ,unfortunately not the big batch. It's not huge, but ...I'm a little hesitating xD. Well,I'll post it today, tommorow, soon enough anyways. But for now,two drawings I kinda intend to finish. First one is with some mermaids or that's how I think they look and second is well, some kind of mutated Batman fanart xD.I don;t know what turned it into one,but I guess I wanted to do a "made-up" villainess. So,here she is, Fishnet her name, loving and hating Batman her game (a double personality kind of woman). Salut omule!

I think that you should seriously start drawing from some anatomy books because your characters are very disproportionate and the poor things are broken all over the places. I'd recommend Burne Hogarth and Andrew Loomis, at least that's where I study from and it really helps. Try to process the information you gather and don't just draw what you see, try understanding how muscles, joints and other things work together in the human body.
So you should allocate more time for study than drawing from imagination, it just isn't the right time now.

Bafta si spor la desenat!

Hey , it has been like mostly 3 years since I posted something. I am trying to get back into the site , since I didn't post for a long time. The last thing I posted was the CHOW, I felt like I was more ready to participate and I learnt alot in these 3 years.

I will post some of my recent drawings. I will try and get back before I plunge into the pit I have fallen too again.

The people who knew me or even remember me 3 years ago. Thanks for doings so. And It's good to be back I guess.

I've been drawing a lot these 3 years and I don't know If I should just post old stuff or post new stuff.

I guess I'll post a large batch of the finished drawings I did in all these 3 years or I dunno.

Well ,without further ado , here are the drawings. Hope you like.

So first batch from 2009-2010. I have like two more from that year and those are just the finished drawings.

@paperhead. Salut man ! Mersi ca mi-ai dat reply.

About anatomy , those are old drawings. My new drawings have improved a lot. I will post some of the current stuff to get back to posting like I used to. In no way does my anatomy look like 3 years ago hahaha. And I do have a book from Andrew Loomis and did study from him and Hogarth, also Vilppu and etc.

Update on the painting. I learnt a lot . I love doing studies. You learn all the good things , like how light interacts and how each hue of the flesh has its own structure and combines with everything.

Doing studies also makes you leap a lot in understanding how you can use RGB sliders and working with LIGHT as color as opposed to working with the mainset of COLOR.

Color is light and vice versa and it takes a pretty amount to really understand the machinations.

Cheers.

Hello, rostas ! Thanks allot for the feedback on my sketchbook ! I'm sorry it's been a while since I've given you any feedback.

So, here goes nothing ^_^ ! I like your since of color and volume, however the last piece in post #152 needs the congestion to be reworked, it's to dull and static. Try to repose the characters more dynamically, that should help the composition.

@ Spoonigan - Thanks for the kind words. I am doing lots of studies because you start to understand things faster by doing real life studies and also studies of old master paintings like from Bouguereau ( which is my favorite painter ) and Sargent and etc. I love inspecting old paintings. It gives more insight than you can possible gather. It's just wonderful that you can understand things so fast by just dabbling in such masterpieces. Also , I suck at environments haha.

@Vayne - Yep , thanks as always :D Let's keep supporting each other from now on. And never give up ^_^. I mean even if you wanted to , it'd be like a shadow following you for the rest of your life. Once you paint you never ... faint? Lol I dunno xD.

Anyways here is the finished study of the painting and the process of it. I'm gonna do some more studies today . I'd also appreciate it if someone would give some insight on speed of drawing. I mean , I think I'm pretty slow. Doing speedpaintings doesn't seem to be my forte. But I'd like to learn how to used textures more and maybe do some mattes. That would maybe increase my speed.

OH, yes, I notice this too Rostas. It's definitely always harder to draw your self. I mean when I do it..... I get total mind block and a feeling of awkwardness.

While anyways I know you did it in 30-40 min, but there are problems with facial proportions a plenty. The nose is in the wrong perspective (Slightly 3 quarters) and the rest of the face is straight on facing the viewer. The eyes are too big for the face and their isn't enough space in-between the eyes. However that problem might be solved if you make the eyes smaller.

March 7th, 2013, 06:29 PM
Wow, you have done a lot of thumbnails recently. You use of colour seems to really be improving too.

I hope you reach your goal with the self portraits, I only relatively recently started forcing myself into it, and after a few, it seemed to be a bit easier, even relaxing - if only because the tension faded, and one adjusts to the whole set up. I agree with vanye108's comment about the proportions, though I think you are heading in the right direction with the skin colours, there are a lot of tones in there. Self portraits can be a really good way to improve 'seeing' skills though, so I think you will improve on this pretty quickly with persistence.

Rostas
March 7th, 2013, 07:54 PM
@vayne - Thanks again man . Yeah I know the eyes are off , but I'll see what I'll do tommorow on the next self-portrait. I could prolong the time to like 1-1hour and a half but I want to get faster at drawing. Taking too much time sometimes irks me.

@clockodile - Yes ,it is important developing "seeing" and "understanding" skills which virtually translate to patience and lots of analyzing. And yeah , the proportions are off. I could've fixed stuff If i stayed more on it but I thought i'd keep it at a minimum time to focus on other things and learn as I do them. Cheers.

Some little updates before I go to bed.

I'll turn these comments into words of " Self - Wisdom " to myself and to anyone who likes listening to idiotic rambles.

Never , ever , give up. I had some shitty days these days and I'm thinking more and more that my art is shit. Well , I'm thinking anyone has gone through this but this is the worst period so far that I had. I don't like nothing that I'm doing , nothing that I intend to do and my style of painting and drawing is just utter bollocks.

Thinking that way made me realise that I was not having fun with what I'm doing. Art is great but sometimes you must do things , things that you hate to improve , and sometimes you force yourself and you constantly do that and sometimes to not be consumed by the thought that you , as an artist , must "kill yourself" to rid the world of your shitty art.

My aspiration is to be a great artist , something that I'll be proud of , and even work as a concept artist/illustrator at some game/movie company. I really believe that day will come if I work hard enough.

So , I constantly think and rethink and try and analyze everything and sometimes, that hurts me. Take my word of advice. When you think your art is shit and it seems like your art is shitter than it was before , take a break. Not a long break, but a couple of hours , get a laugh , eat something. Just don't think about art , at all. It helped me and it helps me regain focus when I come back.

Now this turned into a novel , lol.

Siiick studies! I like all the color too! [I seem to be afraid of color]

I have a suggestion on a type of daily exercise/study that you may find entertaining and quite effective in increasing one's skills quickly.

Non-blind or semi-blind contour drawing! Blind contour is only so good, really not that great, but I think semi-blind contour drawing helps increase short term memory, and contour drawing in general helps with gestalt, awareness of negative space, loosens up and quicken's one's linear perception. Try it with a rollerball pen for starters to get the feel of how it is supposed to be done - one continuous line, whilst breaking or stopping every once in a while to recalibrate. I'm still getting the hang of the technique in pencil, but I found a ballpoint pen can work in precisely the same way if you're aware of the technique over feel of the medium.

here's an example!

@CMLollar7 - thanks for the advice , but I have to make an instagram account xD . Will do later. And indeed I've tried blind contour. It is very helpful in building a good eye-hand coordination when trying to do studies and also understanding nature and negative spaces.

It would be a good practice to be honest :D. Thanks. Also , you posted twice xD.

nice studies. my critique with your paintings--too much black in your shadows. pure black seldom exists at that strength in real life. try using other colors in the shadows. an easy tip to remember: cool light-warm shadows, warm light-cool shadows. this means depending on your light source, your shadows can be warm (brown, orange, desaturated dark yellow, etc) or cool (blues, purples, crimsons). try to eliminate black from your shadows and your paintings will take on a new luminiscence. hope that helps! keep it up!

I'm gonna do each of those daily , each one consisting of 40 mins each. I learnt a lot from the self-portraits. Just by drawing yourself you tend to be more self-conscious and pick up more stuff than when drawing someone else. It's a different view and experience. Had lots of fun.

First a Ilya Repin one , and a Sargent enviro. Amazing stuff ( not mine ofc ). Just when doing these kinds of quickies you realise the elements , colors , composition and placement of everything line and contour. Simply astonishing.

Waah lots of studies in post 209, love it!
I can see a lot of improvement and i can see the lines getting more confident and more confident.

More studies, more! And the master studies, take your time with construction first, colour scheme
and then details. Don't work on the details to soon! Remember, you're doing these to understand the
masters why they chose to draw their subject in a certain way.

Iar in rest, ce sa zic, vreau sa vad mai mult! :)

Rostas
March 17th, 2013, 01:02 PM
@BlackDelphin - Thank you ! It's really great to know someone's watching haha. I know I should focus more because that's the point of art and actually evolving. Taking the time to see ,to observe ,to familiarize the brain with the patterns and colors. I'm rather putting my brain to automatically perceive those faster than usual.

I tend to focus too much on details if i stay too much on a drawing ,and I thought If I focus more on the overal of the picture, the colors, the shapes and the ambience I'd understand more and it's true. Details only count when you know you want to take that to the next level , but the scaffold is the most important part of the drawing. I've steadily tried to reduce the time I stay on drawing , be them studies or otherwise .

It's as much a speed problem as it is a perceiving one. I learnt a lot , and keeping the 40 min quota on each study gives me a certain barrier to not cross , because I could , but If I did , then I would never be done with them haha.

Nitpicking is the problem or habit each artist has at one point ,and it's a hurtful process where you try to perfect things that would better stand out raw and wild.

Am o prietena f buna care m-a acompaniat in calatoria mea artistica dar na , stii cum se spune - The more the merrier. Cheers si spor la desenat!

Well , I haven't done much today but I worked on this study which was supposed to be for yesterday. I worked a bit more at it than usual. The plan was to be 40 mins. But yeah, one odd ball doesn't really count. The rest of them. about 5 remaining will remain at the 40 min quota. This one was done in about 2 hours I think. Maybe 2 and a half.

You walked a long trenched road and went through some hard obstacles, but it was all worth it,
worth the sweat and blood to be here, to glorify this beautiful sunny day. Lots of tits,
breasts, boobs and hangers all around, adorable creatures spreading their shiny legs,
cheerful peaches mixed with tangerine. I can feel the roots coming from deep below, tying up
hard to the Scandinavian Doppelganger. Naked asses and legs, big hooters following you through
this magical voyage, being your powerful trademark, hail to the king. So many countless studies
had been brought in the Christmas spirit for sure, forcing the cracked reindeer to froze. As time
passed by, your improvements started to shine, making a flying snob, out of the dying frog.
I’ve just saw your evolution from 09, till 2013, and I have to say it’s more than amazing, you
did a big smack to the elephant shack. So good work, even more than superb. This all shows
how serious you are about art, and how serious you are about your studies, you are a true
master becoming. Big respect for naked and big breasted females. Stay strong and do more
greyscale paintings, also go for nailing more the proportion exercises.
We’ll be in touch and discuss more some sexual big tit subjects.
PS. your signature sketchbook link does not work, so it was a bit harder to come
to this book of preciousness.

Rostas, hello! Awesome SB, and tremendous amount of work and dedication. I very much like your post #213 I think in which you describe your commitment to a time limit. This is an amazing task in itself, and I commend you for it. I suffer from details, and I tend to try and set some type of time limit, mostly 1.5hr. But I'm at a point were I think to much on how to do it, that it makes it so hard to abide a time limit. Anyways, seeing your results and practice with it makes it easier for me to see the light and one day look forward to a 40min to an hour time limit for myself. Also lastly, thanks so much for visiting my SB awhile back. The support and kind words are appreciated!

Envos are getting better!
Other than that, I am not sure so I'll ask. Are you concentrating on quality or quantity?
I tend to do quantity sometimes, out of eagerness and desire to improve faster.
So in any case, take your time, and try to learn as much as possible from one drawing.
It's what you learn that matters.

In any case, I like the master studies you are doing, the colour pallet is good, and the shapes
and proportions are fairly well. Don't forget edges! :D

Lots of proportion mistakes and stuff but I'll either repair them or completely succumb to my urges to purposely destroy it or redraw the whole damn thing.
