I did a search on the forum but didn't come up with anything so here I am asking.

I'm wanting to start oil painting having had a taster session during the summer and doing my first canvas and really enjoyed it and my birthday is coming up and i'm wanting to get some supplies, but i wouldn't know a good paintbrush from a bad one if it hit me in the face.

So really i could do with some recommendations for (average priced) brands/places to buy (im uk based) on a set of oil paints, brushes and pre-prepared A3 and smaller canvas's. I have looked on google but i don't know anything about this so its all a bit bewildering.

Thanks in advance :)

I'm not really an expert on this, but if you're starting out with painting i'd suggest you start with a student grade paints. I think both Winsor&Newton and Daler Rowney have a decent line there. As for brushes, those can easily cost a penny if you're going for good stuff. So again, maybe start off with some cheap synthetic ones? Anyway there's people here who know tons more about this than i do, i'd let them have their say first.

Also I would REALLY recommend getting the shawn barber dvd from this site if you can afford it. Priceless information for beginners, I still reckon its the best one I've purchased.
