Hey all, I've decided to start a daily sketchbook.

A little background info :
Im 15 years old, and obsessed with art.

ps. Sorry about bad quality pictures, no scanner yet.
Now on to the sketchbook!

The 1st page was just to get used to the new pencils I just bought.

This is painting I did trying to transfer one of my characters from my crappy anime style to a more relistic style.

Here is this weeks update, didn't get around to posting due to a big project that I have to do. Did a lot of self portraits this week and worked with some diffent pens that I bought at the art store.

are you drawing these faces from reference or imagination.. you should really sit down and take ur time one time with several good unique reference photos.. all of these look the same and from the fabric of your own mind. learning to draw whats there and not what you think in your head is there is one thing thats going to help you immensely on your journey, sketch a ton and progress will come soon.. and we'll letcha know when we see it :) piece - chudds

Chudzta - Most are selfportraits or 1 minute life sketches at school. Thanks for the tip, didn't notice I was doing that untill you mentioned it.

I drew my dog from a picture I took a couple days ago, made me realize I have a lot of problems with perspective. Anyone have some tips?

Well theres a few ways to learn perspective.. even though almost everyone has their fights with it sometimes.

One would be continue life drawing and live environment drawing(you sitting somewhere and drawing what u see around you)

Two would be going to a heavily built up street and drawing buildings in perspective.. or just find references with interesting angles that add in some practice.

Either way and many others all involve doing many practices. 1 sketch wont do it. 5 wont do it. 10 wont. 100 will get you pretty comfortable. Keep pumping. the dog does look believable for tha amount of time put into it. Try fully shading a work sometime. If you want a larger supply of pencils than go to a craft store. or even a walmart if ur in the us. and shade away. it also adds depth and believeability. good luck - piece

Dont worry about perspective!


If you keep looking closely at the things around you will develop your own sense of perspective.

Try doing more thumb-nail sketches like the ones you did of the skull. Start looking for ways to fit multiple objects in a frame so they make sense.. but keep it loose and dont worry about complete accuracy every time.


most importantly, draw what you like! Mabey take that abstraction into some studies ;)

this is good, i can see some progression! may i suggest studdying anatomy, this would broaden your horizon and give you loads of new ideas, i love the coloured one btw! keep it up, i'll be back!
