I'm running across quit a few people that are continually disappointed that few if any C&C's are posted on their work. Myself included. While I'm not sure of the reason, I was wondering if there was anything we could do to improve the problem? I don't know if I'm out of line here Jason, please let me know if I am. I thought perhaps the ones with few or no C&C's could start a thread where we try to help each other out. Maybe by posting to this thread about where our works are and we could go and comment on the pieces?

Try critting other people. Then your more likley to get a crit yourself.

That's good advice. I usually try to give a comment or crit on art that I can see has no replies. Often, I don't really have anything helpful to say (damn beginner syndrome). It requires a lot of patience - I see many artists post something, then wait a day, and post back - "NO REPLIES?!"

This usually yields a couple pity comments, and then other people check it out, and post helpful crits/comments.

If it's a WIP thread, then keep updating it, and people will take notice (since it automatically moves to the top of the forum), then people can see changes, and hopefully give some worthwhile advice.

I dunno, that's my two cents on the subject :/

Be specific about exactly what you are asking for. So often people just post an image and a line saying "c&c welcome" or some such. Honestly, often there are so many issues with a piece most people probably don't know where to start. Whereas if you post something like, "I'm pretty happy with how this came out, but there's something wrong with the eyes and I can't figure out what it is," your much more likely to get specific responses.

maybe we should write a FAQ about it.

im only half kidding, it could be part of a larger 'etiquette' type FAQ? *shrug*

One thing thats I problem is that there's so many new threads. The latest two or three months has seen a steady increase of new threads per day. It's easy to miss a thread, plus you don't have time to write replies to everyone.

Even really good art can be missed, I remeber one of carlos threads didn't get a reply until it had had about 70 hits...

First, thanks for commenting everyone. I think this is a subject that needs some help. I see some artists that get a whole lot of comments and others that get nil to none.

Pencil Soldier, I and I'm sure the other artists do crit other works, but still recieve little on ours. I usually try to find the ones with little or no comments. Sometimes I can help, and sometimes I can't, but I'll try to leave a comment anyway.

Sic 1, I agree that sometimes it's hard to pick out specific areas about a picture that needs help. but even a " that's nice comment" is better than nothing. No comments at all is very discouraging to the artist. This is especially true for the young people trying to become artists. Not everyone can afford to go to school to learn, so they are coming to this forum for help. I think we should try to help them.

Elwell, while I agree with being specific, as a long time artist, I know that even professional artists need help picking out details they have overlooked. Sometimes an artist will miss something even a non-artist will see, or the artist will know there is something wrong with a piece, but can't specifically pick out what it is. This is where the C&C's help the most.

Nil, I don't know if FAQ's would help. I think everybody should try to make more of an effort to post to some of the artwork that recieves few posts, or set up a thread where people can put their name in as needing help.

al-x, I agree there's a problem with so many new threads. It's hard to get around to them all. Having a "overlooked" or "no comments" thread could be helpful. That way the artists with little or no comments on their works could put their names and the area of the forums in it, and other artist could check it out and try to leave a comment. It would be easier and faster than searching through the forums for work that have no C&C's posted to them.
