I am presently working on a 3D model I intend to use for my cinematic frame by frame storyboards.

The 3D paint tool in Maya doesn't seem to be that bad at all.Very cool for painting skin textures on models. Here is a lowpoly model, I textured the skin using the Tool in Maya. The textures of the eyes with Photoshop though but I intend to try texturing the eyes I model for a character next time with the paint tool and evaluate the results:

Everything including clothes, arm armour and arm textured with the 3D paint tool.No photoshop.

Nice work, but the face looks a little off to me. I can see that you are going for low poly, but I think that a bit of reproportioning with the lips and eyes would help to make the face look alot nicer. You might be going for a recognisable face, and you definitely have a memorable face there, but it is not a very pretty one.

Alot of modellers for modern games try hard to keep the poly count down, but in actual fact the models can be very high poly. I have seen models up to 5,000 polies that run well in multiple engines, with animations and multiple other models on screen at the same time.

If you are making for an animation or an image, just go wild with the polies. But if you are using the model as a self education piece, then I would just suggest studying some pictures of human faces and doing some reconstruction on the lips and eyes.

Also, while the 3D paint tool may be good, the amount of detail on your model there is a bit limited. You have the basic shades and colours and they look good from a bit of a distance, but I think that the added control that an external graphic editor adds is irreplaceable.

Altogether, though, your work is really good. A little work could make it even better, keep it up!

Thanks, the character is actually for a frame by frame storyboard I am working on whenever I can find time.I actually designed the character. Now she's completely rigged,I have to work on the enviroments which is gonna increase the poly count of the scene, not to mention hair dynamics.

I know, she doesn't look all that beautiful.Just wanted her to look normal.I wasn't going for a realistic appearance.I just want to be able to convey what will be happening in the storyboard. As long as the rigging is okay, posing her for screenshots won't be a problem.

I agree with you on her eyes and lips, guess low poly can be very restrictive.Yeah, about the 3D paint tool, you have a point.Someone actually told me about Mudbox and its new version coming out next year will enable painting textures directly on 3D models in layers like Photoshop.Presently, you can sculpt or make changes on a model in layers with Mudbox.

Hi Melviso

to be a bit blunt I think the video is a bit uneasy on the eyes a little bit like a stroboscope, try to find a better "flow" in it so it will be more welcoming so to speak.

You have put in much time in it... so just make those last little efforts to make it all the way. I haven't tested Maya but you could probably "keyframe" the camera moves so it moves smoothly without any extra work from you since the 3d program do all the in-betweens.

Maybe rethink how many camera changes you should have and where to place the camera and such to make it better.

Anyway trying to crit is just my way of showing respect to what you´re doing even if I come across as blunt and also read my signature :)

keep going strong

Thanks Mindflaw.I agree with you.The model is really not what I was going for so I am gonna rework the model with mudbox and come up with a better plot. This time there will be some awesome fighting with one of her allies to help her out.I don't want to give the plot away. This time I am going for smooth animation and its gonna last not less than 3 mins.

By the way,the compartment that looks like a warehouse is actually part of a huge aircraft.
