Yeah it's me again :) Just cracking on really, looking on here I figure the only way I'm gonna get to the standard I want (Eventually competition to the awesome work by spiderzero and William Paquet!) is to get sculpting. Over and over. And try to push myself and learn something new each time.
So here's the current project, a Demon Footsoldier. On my Mage Assassin model I felt that I had got caught up in the detail and it had lost any sense of movement and so the character was weaker for it. Therefore I have decided to try and speed up my workflow, trying to keep the feeling of movement.
For the concept, I mashed up a load of old ideas and sketches that I never really acted on. I was tempted to do a nice juicy zombie-type demon (the last image I've included) but I was aware how close that was getting to the work of the artists mentioned above. So I went for a spikey/scaly concept, with the idea of it staggering close to its enemy, then springing to life to use those arm claws effectively. Some images show a centaur type creature, this was a concept I used for some uni work, but i went with a bipedal humanoid as I'm aware that first and foremost I should be practising human anatomy!
Oh and even though I added loads of milliput to the armature, I'm still getting cracks in the ankles. Grrrr. Next time I will strengthen the whole lower leg with epoxy putty, I guess it's an expected problem when you have the sculpt supported on its ankles.
