It's rumored that Photoshop CS4 will have these capabilities (if not that one, then CS5 or later for sure).
Looks amazing to me, just think of the possibilities.

There are a variety of good implementations of seam carving out there already. I was using it last year to scale images of inconveniently spiny dinoflagellates without destroying the detail of the thecae.
rsizr (http://rsizr.com/) is a high quality one, it is however rather slow at what it does. It has been around for ~1 year.

Well, I would like to know what people think of the repercussions of this kind of technology. My friend brought up an interesting point that it's scary because now even small images from our websites can be turned into decent sized ones and used without our permission, as in, putting small images on our portfolio websites will no longer be a deterrent for art thieves.
I tend to think that it'll help digital manipulations and matte painting tremendously, so the good outweighs the bad.
